Project Aims and Narrative:
For a variety of reasons, children with disabilities face an increased risk of abuse and neglect. Communication difficulties as well as isolation and their dependency on their career can affect a disabled child’s ability to recognise and understand that they are being abused as well as their ability to access help and support. The use of disabled children’s centres excludes them and creates a label on all types children that have a form a disability. The aim of the project is to create and design a space that isn’t just aimed at disabled children, but everyone. Creating a sense of inclusion for all the children, instead of them being singled out and isolated. The space would be an interactive, educational space that will teach young toddlers and children about the senses that are taken away from some people, like sight and sound. The age range of the children would be anything from 2 or 3 up to the last year in primary school (aged 10/11).
Proposal:
St Thomas’ Parish Hall will be redesigned to create a space that can teach children about the Nature and the changes of the seasons; this will be created and taught through the use of senses. Throughout the space, rooms will be connected through the use of simple structures leading people throughout the building. This was inspired by design created for the Honda IAA at Frankfort. With lights and tactile surfaces, children will learn about the changes of the seasons and how nature grows/changes throughout the year. The fun element is inspired by the Royal London Hospital with the use of oversized, eve-ryday objects to take the thoughts away from the sick children.

Project Aims:
Your task is to devise a project to create housing design solutions that address the changing needs of users as they negotiate different stages in life. Particular focus is required in adaptive spaces for Third Age living, developing the concept of the ‘lifetime home’ from accommodating a child to an ageing adult. A key consideration is the extent to which existing housing typologies undergo adjustment as peoples’ lives change, or whether new typologies are needed that offer new types of living space. To respond to the changing contexts for living, you are asked to consider 5 ‘moments’ in the lifetime of the home illustrating this emergent change. These moments form the basis for exploring a series of different living scenarios across a lifetime. The 5 periods to consider are:1. Young single or couple occupancy2. Family with young children3. Family with teenage children4. Mid life single or a couple5. Later in life single or a couple
