University Education Should Be FreeToday many young students are looking forward to going to college, but there are even more who realize that going to college is no longer a choice, but a necessity. In the world today, a college education is needed in order for someone to even start looking for advanced jobs that go beyond making more than just a few dollars an hour. Because college is increasingly becoming more and more necessary for people to make a living, a university education should be free. There are too many people who don’t go to college because of the costs. Scholarships are only for the few people who are lucky enough to get them. The burden of student loans alone keeps students from completing college or even bothering to try.

How Expensive is College:The cost of going to college has a huge range to it. For some people, they could expect to spend around ten thousand dollars a year and many students end up around $40,000 in debt with student loans. These students usually have a hard time making it after college since there is only a six month grace period for a student before student loan starts requiring them to pay their financial aid. College continues to be expensive for many people to the extent that they aren’t even able to go to college because they simply can’t afford it.

Some students who are able to go to college have a limited range of options. There are scholarships available, but they are few and far between. Some scholarships barely around students enough money to get their books, and although others can give a student a full ride where tuition is completely covered, there are also an array of other expenses, such as room and board, that keep a student from still being able to go to college.

The stress of paying for college alone is a huge distraction for most students. Trying to find the money to get through each year or working alongside going to school just to have a place to live and eat is a difficult thing to do, especially for young children just getting out of college.

The worst thing about this is that students aren’t even able to choose where they want to go. If a student wants to go to a college that carries their particular major, but they can’t afford it, then they have to find another university that is less expensive, and if they have the grades to get accepted, shouldn’t they have the right to attend the university? The point of a college education is for a person to pursue a higher level of knowledge than what they had when going out of high school.

University educations lead people down the path to become lawyers, doctors, and even engineers, but before a student even have the ability to get that high paying position; they have to find some way to afford to go to these schools. Without any money or the potential to get a scholarship, a lot of people end up not going to school until several years or even a decade or so later, and there are even more people who just never go to college at all.

The Downside of Not Going to College:

The students who aren’t lucky enough to go to college have to find another way to make money, but a lot of them end up in jobs that have limited options. These aren’t people who end up major corporations, but people who end up in low level managing positions or working at minimum wage just to get by. The people who don’t go to college are left with few options, and those who do become successful either have outside help or they have taken a huge risk and it has paid off for them.

For every person that is successful that didn’t go to college, there are ten or even a hundred that are out there struggling to get by because they don’t have a degree. Today more jobs than ever require someone to at least have a bachelor’s degree in some area. An associate’s degree is hardly enough to even get recognized. Even if a person doesn’t get a job in the area that they studied there is something significant about a degree that makes businesses notice a person, and it makes them look at a person in a positive light, since going to college shows that a person can have a long term goal and achieve it.

The Benefits of College Being Free:

There are downsides to college being free, and one of them is that taxes would increase, and people would be paying a lot more in order to get their children to go to school, but in doing so a child has the ability to do something with their lives, without having to put themselves under a mountain of debt or force themselves to take on a fulltime job while trying to not fail any of their classes.

College takes a lot of time and effort, and the high school students who don’t end up going feel like they can’t. For a lot of those people, because they don’t have the money, they can’t. If the divide continues at this rate, there will only be the lucky and the fortunate who go to college and not those who are seeking a higher education.

Conclusion:With the way the world is today, it is more important now than ever for a person to get a college education. A person doesn’t just have the option of not going to college, and there will be a day where people won’t even be able to get low level jobs without having some sort of higher education. The cost of college needs to be free. With college being as expensive as it is, but people making such low amounts of money, the students that have the potential to truly learn will be left out on the street, and those that do receive a higher education will be in more financial trouble than ever.
