Ninety percent of Montevallo’s faculty hold theterminal degree in their discipline, a numbersignificantly higher than average for Southernuniversities. Each year, the Council forAdvancement and Support of Education (CASE)recognizes the most outstanding professors in thecountry. Not surprisingly, Montevallo has had morefaculty members selected as CASE Professors of theYear than any other university in Alabama. In2006, Professor Scott Stephens becameMontevallo’s fifth faculty member to be sohonored.

The University of Montevallo providespersonal, practical preparation for life.Whether you seek a career inside acorporation, professional school, entrepreneurial company or governmentagency, you need the ability to communicateeffectively, apply critical thinking skills solvecomplicated problems, and become informedcitizens who make a difference in theircommunities. A foundation in the liberal artsis instrumental in developing these mostpractical skills. As a member of COPLAC, theCouncil of Public Liberal Arts Colleges,Montevallo offers a liberal arts educationalexperience at a public university price. In truth, most colleges include studies inliberal arts in their general core of freshmanand sophomore courses. What makes liberalarts colleges so different is their emphasis onsmall classes, the value of faculty-studentinteraction, and opportunities for students toparticipate in all types of learning scenariosoutside of the classroom. Study abroad, undergraduate research, service learning, community service and the like, provide a“real world” dimension to the educationalexperience. Montevallo offers all of theseopportunities, and more.
The University of Montevallo moved up - again - on the college-rankings ladder and isthe highest-ranked public university in Alabama to be included in the regional master's-level list in the 2010 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges".
As the top Alabama public school in the regional master's-level rankings, Montevalloearned high marks for academic reputation, freshman retention rate, graduation rate, entering freshmen test scores and class rank, small class sizes and low student-faculty ratio.
"Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included because wework on the premise that the most significant values are among colleges that are aboveaverage academically."
— U.S. News & World Report
“Never before has a highquality liberal arts educationbeen so relevant, meaningfuland timely. The Montevallofamily graduates thoughtfulstudents who are smart, balanced, and prepared- for graduate studies, professional success and life.”
— UM PresidentDr. John Stewart
