What is mentoring?

Mentoring A one-to-one (or two-to-one) relationship between an experienced professional (mentor) and a less experienced junior colleague (mentee)

Target-oriented, confidential mentor-mentee discussions

Several meetings covering concrete issues rather than theory

Discussion topics in fields that are of interest to the mentee especially

Principles: confidentiality, respect, trust, equality, commitment.

Languages: Finnish and English

Mentor = Experienced professional, university

graduate

Mentor An experienced professional with a higher education degree

- You do not need to be a University of Oulu graduate

- 5 years of working experience after graduation

Willing to commit for about 6 months in getting to know and supporting the mentee

- 3-8 meetings with your mentee

- Willing to share your expertise and support the mentee in

their personal development and getting started with a career /

career progression

You come as you are.

- You embody one possible career path for the mentee

- You listen, comment, challenge, criticize, question, praise

Mentors have a training session prior to programme start.

study and career situation and goals and

how they go about doing this but does

not prescribe solutions or career routes

- Career introductions
