From the Principal I have been pleased with the way our year has begun; students are settled and staff have excellent programs in place. Our School Plan for the next 3 years is almost ready. Come along to our next P&C meeting on the 10
th of April to hear more about our
school plan. The school is in the process of significant maintenance. Our Air conditioning is being replaced, roofing on A, E and Primary school campus is being replaced and painting is freshening up some of our rooms. Students have dealt well with the changes that have been put into place to accommodate the maintenance. Interim Reports Interim reports have been issued for students in year 7 and 11 as these groups have had to transition to a different educational regime. These reports are general and are meant to give an overall view of how students have settled into their courses. Any “needs attention” markings should be acted on immediately, particularly if year advisers have requested an interview. More detailed reports and a parent teacher interviews will be available for all years in June and July. Drop offs and pick ups Please be mindful of the dangers of pedestrians and cars mixing in the same zone during drop off and pick up times. Parent should not stop and drop off at the top of Collins Street, particularly on the western side. Best practice is to go to the bottom of Collins and complete a U-turn so that students can be dropped on the correct side of the road. Furthermore Parents should not drive into either of the staff car parks to drop off or pick up. Our Website will be updated at the beginning of term 2 and will include details of assessment dates for years 7, 11 and 12. We are working towards providing details for years 8, 9 and 10 at some stage in term 2. Next term The first day of term will be Staff Development Day with staff devoting time to planning for literacy and numeracy teaching, study skills and formative assessment. Students will start term 2 on Tuesday 1
st May.
I wish all students a relaxing holiday and am sure they should be recharged and ready for an exciting term of learning and challenges in term 2.

Hospitality News Our Year 12 and Year 11 Hospitality students were involved in preparing food for the Welcome Evening held for our new Year 7 students and their families, on Wednesday 21
st March, 2018. On the menu were sausage rolls and pies
served with homemade tomato sauce, spinach pie, quiches with pumpkin, caramelised onion and fetta, egg & lettuce sandwiches, savoury chicken sandwiches, chocolate and coconut slice, colourful cupcakes, and coconut cookies. Thank-you to the Year 11 Hospitality team that helped out on the night: Catriona Aird, Grace Chaffey, Tracy Hoang, Charmaine Lopez, Skye McKinnon, Olivia Russell, Putu Subakti, and Cody White-Cabral. Ms Kastanias—TAS Teacher
HSIE FACULTY Did you know that between 2011 and 2016 Census’ the population at Wolli Creek grew by 126 per cent! Students from Mrs Davidson’s 9Y Geography class visited the suburb of Wolli Creek Tuesday 27
th March to investigate
the changes over time and impact of urbanisation on Wolli Creek. As part of their investigation they completed a line drawing and land use survey to compare to previous year’s fieldwork. They also looked as ABS statistics to compare demographic characteristics over time.

Well done to our Year 11/12 debating team for their back to back debates against Sydney Girls High School and Burwood Girls High School. Our students have improved their skills greatly over such a short period of time. Next debate, Canterbury Girls. Good luck!

Easter Show - International Students Excursion
On Friday 23rd
March, all the international students in Years 9-11 went to the Royal Easter Show at Olympic Park. It was a day spent learning about Australian agriculture, looking at cows, goats, chickens and pigs. We also saw Malcolm Turnbull! We enjoyed the amusement rides and games, and watched some gravity defying acrobatic shows. Our favourite part of the day, however, was eating all the food! We tried lots of dishes that we have not seen before, such as giant turkey legs, deep fried cheese on a stick and pluto pups. It was a great day and we had an amazing time with our classmates and friends. We look forward to going again!

SRC Space Get ready for our big Pink Stumps Day event on the 12
th April. Students can wear mufti for a gold coin
donation. We will have a delicious sausage sizzle and bake sale, as well as a teachers vs students cricket game. Get your pink on! (All proceeds to go to the McGrath Foundation) by Ms Yin—SRC Coordinator 2018 Student Leadership Program On the 15
th March 2018, Matthew and I were given the
opportunity to attend a Leadership Day at Parliament House NSW. At this event, we were able to learn more about the inner workings of Parliament, and the roles some Parliament Members had within the Lower and Upper House. We were also able to interact with other leaders from Sydney region schools, and meet our Member (for Heffron), Mr. Ron Hoenig. Additionally, we were given the chance to observe debates happening within both houses – particularly the debate in the Upper House, on whether to abolish the ANZ and Allianz Stadium and build a ‘Sydney Stadium’ in its place; it was very heated (and entertaining)! Following this, we got to visit Government House near the Conservatorium and meet the Governor of NSW, the Honourable David Hurley and his wife, Linda Hurley. P.S. We were also given free food, so that was cool! Martina Bai—THS Captain

HSIE FACULTY Year 9 and Year 10 students were recently involved in an 'incursion' facilitated by the local organisation CHOICE. They spoke to the students about what they do, discussed consumer protection, how they product test in the labs and provided information on consumer laws and how CHOICE can assist consumers in comparison shopping. Student feedback was that they found it really worthwhile. Ms Maloney—Head Teacher HSIE
