The word holiday comes from the word holy. Holy means to set something apart or it is set apart. It’s not routine or ordinary but special and different. So, we call the Bible the “Holy Bible” since it’s not just an ordinary book. For something to be holy means it’s unlike other things or days. We call this week “Holy Week” and it’s a special time for us to focus on the passion of Christ that leads us to Easter. Easter is what is referred to as a high holy day in the life of the Church and Christ Follower. For some, it is the apex of our Christian faith and the Apostle Paul said that without the resurrection we have no hope and as Christians we are to be pitied (most of all) because we place the weight our lives in something that doesn’t exist. But if the resurrection is true, well then, we have good reasons to have a spring in our step and a song in our hearts. Easter may be your favorite holy day. (I love Easter but Christmas is my favorite and Advent is my favorite season.) But we need to remember the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say. That’s what we do this week. We remember that there is some truth in the adage “no pain, no gain.” We remember the pain and agony of our Lord Jesus as we travel with him to the cross and celebrate that no greater love exists than to lay down your life so that others may have life. Really, when you think about it, the resurrection turns the hell of the cross into heaven on earth. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Connecting Points

There is something about spiritual holidays that make us feel better. We seem to

have more energy and a spring in our step. If you pay attention to vibes you

know that people seem more alive and loving before and during a holiday.

The word holiday comes from the word holy. Holy means to set something apart

or it is set apart. It’s not routine or ordinary but special and different. So, we call

the Bible the “Holy Bible” since it’s not just an ordinary book. For something to

be holy means it’s unlike other things or days. We call this week “Holy Week”

and it’s a special time for us to focus on the passion of Christ that leads us to

Easter. Easter is what is referred to as a high holy day in the life of the Church

and Christ Follower. For some, it is the apex of our Christian faith and the Apostle

Paul said that without the resurrection we have no hope and as Christians we are

to be pitied (most of all) because we place the weight our lives in something that

doesn’t exist. But if the resurrection is true, well then, we have good reasons to

have a spring in our step and a song in our hearts.

Easter may be your favorite holy day. (I love Easter but Christmas is my favorite

and Advent is my favorite season.) But we need to remember the rest of the

story as Paul Harvey used to say. That’s what we do this week. We remember

that there is some truth in the adage “no pain, no gain.” We remember the pain

and agony of our Lord Jesus as we travel with him to the cross and celebrate that

no greater love exists than to lay down your life so that others may have life.

Really, when you think about it, the resurrection turns the hell of the cross into

heaven on earth. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ

our Lord.
