End production of David Hare’s Skylight, directed by Stephen Daldry, and recorded at London’s West End by National Theatre Encore. Now in his 20s, Tim is newly released from protective custody and only wants to move on with his life; but Kaylie, still haunted by that fateful night, is convinced her parents’ deaths were caused by something else altogether: a malevolent supernatural force unleashed through the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror in their childhood home. Determined to prove Tim’s innocence, Kaylie tracks down the mirror, only to learn similar deaths have befallen previous owners over the past century. With the mysterious entity now back in their hands, Tim and Kaylie soon find their hold on reality shattered by terrifying hallucinations, and realize, too late, that their childhood nightmare is beginning again...

THE YOUNG &PRODIGIOUST.S. SPIVETShowing from: Fri 15 AugTickets on sale: Wed 6 Aug

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

Ten-year-old T. S. Spivet lives on a Montana ranch with his blissfully eccentric and is a science prodigy who unexpectedly wins an award from the Smithsonian for his perpetual motion machine, prompting him to abscond to Washington aboard a freight train. His adventures en route, and his celebrity status once there, provide the bulk of the film’s alternately comical, touching and sharply observed comments on human frailties.

FINDINGVIVIAN MAIERShowing from: Fri 8 AugTickets on sale: Wed 30 July

This documentary takes as its starting point the accidental discovery by real-estate agent John Maloof of a huge cache of negatives. It was only later that he realised their importance: he had stumbled upon a wealth of stunning photographs by Vivian Maier, an unsung talent who had worked as a nanny in Chicago and New York from the 1950s to the 1990s. Maloof’s discovery resulted in Maier’s recognition as one of the most vivid street photographers of the 20th century. Paying homage to her work as well as exploring the strange twists and turns of her life, this film is dense with images, interviews and revelations, painting a fitting and moving portrait of a true artist, who sadly only gained recognition after her death.

COLD IN JULYShowing from: Fri 15 AugTickets on sale: Wed 6 Aug

How can a split-second decision change your life? While investigating noises in his house one balmy Texas night in 1989, Richard Dane puts a bullet in the brain of low-life burglar Freddy Russell. Although he’s hailed as a small-town hero, Dane soon finds himself fearing for his family’s safety when Freddy’s ex-con father, Ben, rolls into town, hell-bent on revenge.Michael C. Hall brings a shell-shocked vulnerability to his portrayal of Dane that contrasts perfectly with the grizzled badasses portrayed by Sam Shepard and Don Johnson. Directed with an excellent eye for the visual poetry of noir, this pulpy, southern-fried mystery is a throwback to an older breed of action film, one where every punch and shotgun blast opens up both physical and spiritual wounds.

The film tracks 6 year-old Mason (Ellar Coltrane) over life’s most radically fluctuating decade, through a familiar whirl of family moves, family controversies, faltering marriages, re-marriages, new schools, first loves, lost loves, good times, scary times and a constantly unfolding mix of heartbreak and wonder. But the results are unpredictable, as one moment braids into the next, entwining into a deeply personal experience of the incidents that shape us as we grow up and the ever-changing nature of our lives.
