TRANSCRIPT

I drafted technical drawings and produced a series of sketches for this mixed use masterplan. The drawing showing above indicates how the open space strategy might work in practice.

Indicative Mixed-Use Masterplan

Neighbourhood Regeneration Proposal This proposal formed the final submission for my Postgraduate Urban Design Diploma. The project involved examining a brownfield site in Glasgow’s east end and putting forward a proposal for its redevelopment as a mixed-use area incorporating housing, education, retail and community facilities.

The project went on to win the Urban Design Group’s student award.

Indicative Residential Masterplan

This 300 house site was in a visually sensitive location at the edge of a conservation area. The design solution developed for it had to take account of steep topography and reflect the local vernacular.

I developed the masterplan with guidance from a senior architect and produced the final design statement.

Indicative Residential Masterplan

This project involved developing an outline masterplan for up to 450 houses on the edge of a New Town in the north of England. The design had to take careful account of the several exemplary projects found across the area.

I produced a contextual movement and facilities study, character assessment as well as working up the final masterplan in AutoCAD, Photoshop and Sketchup.

Indicative Residential Masterplan

Open Space Adjacent to Bridge: Positively Address

Offset from Railway Line and Wildlife Corridor: Positively Address where Possible

Area of Open Watercourse: Positively Address esp. at Crossing Points

Raised Embankment: Back And Side On

Area of Significant Boundary Planting: Setback and Positively Address

I led the production of a masterplan and design statement for this 200 house development proposal on former railway sidings. The site had a number of constraints including a culverted watercourse, proximity to a railway line and a difficult access. The input of hydrologists and traffic engineers was crucial in arriving at my eventual masterplan solution.

Strategic Framework

I led a community and stakeholder consultation process and produced a strategic framework for this 35 Sq KM area of forestry commision owned land adjacent to Glasgow.

The document ultimately formed the basis of adopted council policy on leisure and access across the area. I also produced a series of explanatory leaflets setting out the headlines for the strategy.

Detailed Residential Masterplan

This detailed residential masterplan was designed to take account of the site’s location in a landscaped garden within the grounds of a former 19th century hospital.

I led the production of the final Design Statement, liasing with the client team and our in-house architects as well as producing graphics for the final submission.

rtThis Delivery Statement involved assessing the development capacity, and delivery strategy for a residential neighbourhood taking into account an adjacent landfill site and the development of a major road.

I worked closely with engineers and surveyors to produce an urban design-led layout for the area and put this before the Council.

Tender Submission for University Campus

I produced a masterplan layout for this tender submission for a former university campus in Manchester. The masterplan had to be commercially viable while taking into account the renovation of existing listed buildings within the site.

My input was predominanlty in terms of producing a layout in AutoCAD and working this up into a final submission graphic using Photoshop.

We were commissioned to produce a development framework and tender submission document for a mixed-use regeneration area in Edinburgh. This involved setting out a layout and appropriate quantum of development for the site.

I worked closely with the client’s surveyors in order to produce a range of drawings demonstrating a potential design approach for the site. I was also responsible for co-ordinating and producing a series of final submission documents.

Further Graphics

I have also produced a range of Masterplan and Urban Design graphics for a range of other projects across Scotland and the the North of England. All of the work shown is my own.
