The most frequently used mode of transportation� Currently, there are three types

of buses that operate within the country� One type of bus only transports people

within a single city� Another type of bus transports people between different cities� The last type of bus, known as the Metro, transports people within a city on

specialized tracks that are separate from the usual traffic�

2� Train

Large cars on tracks operated by the government� Helpful for people who travel far� Along with passengers, trains also carry cargo and move products from the Karachi

sea port to other parts of the country�

3� Car

One of the most common modes of transport in the city� Many people finance their

cars� Most people prefer imported Japanese cars due to their higher quality and

safety standards� There is a huge market for used Japanese in Pakistan�

4� Motorcycle

One of the most common transportation modes� Motorcycles are cheap to buy in

Pakistan due to increased domestic manufacturing� Because of their price, they are

popular among people with lower incomes� Cities like Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala have roads crowded with bikes� Riding a motorcycle is

Small three wheeled cart available in all major cities except Islamabad� People use

depending on their experience and popularity� Tailor shops become crowded when

"Eid" is near, but people give their clothes for stitching 2-3 months before� During

the start of summer and winter seasons, the tailor shops are also crowded� If you

want to get your clothes stitched, it is advised to go to a famous tailor and pay

some extra money to ensure quality stitching and timely delivery�

2� Hairdresser

Hairdresser service are common in all areas of the country� In big cities, popular

hairdressers require appointments for a haircut� The Hairdressers for women are

usually more expensive than those for


men� With globalization, the services offered by hairdressers has increased� In rural

areas, hairdressers would also be the town's cook� They would cut hair and cook

A very handy service in Pakistan� People call electricians to fix electrical issues� You

can also take items to the electrician for repair� People in Pakistan usually have their

items repaired instead of throwing them away� The repair culture is equally

common in both rural and urban areas�

4� Cobbler

Someone who make new shoes and fixes broken ones� Many people go to cobbler

shops to repair their shoes as it is more cost efficient than buying a new pair�

5� Plumber

A service man who fixes issues related to water and sanitation� Plumbers are

available in all parts of the country�

Windstorms are rare in Pakistan� In 1965 a strong windstorm struck Karachi city, damaging its infrastructure and killing 10,000 people�

3� Earthquake

Earthquakes are rare in Pakistan� Houses are not made to be earthquake resistant, so even a weak earthquake with a long duration can cause a lot of damage� In 2005 a 7�6 scale earthquake hit the Kashmir region and 73,000 people lost their lives� More than 3 million people went homeless� It is considered to be the region's

biggest natural disaster�

4� Cyclone

Cyclones are not very common in Pakistan� In 2007 cyclone yemyin hit the coastal

areas, killing 730 people�

5� Drought

Droughts are not very common, but there have been a few in the past 20 years in

the Sindh and Balochistan provinces� In 2000 a drought hit the Balochistan

province, affecting 1�2 million people and causing 100 deaths�
