Athens GovernmentAthens is considered the beginning of democracy because they did not have kings, pharaohs, or emperors. It was divided into small groups called dems that were grouped together into 10 tribes. Every tribe had the same amount of members in it. The form of government was called a demokratia, which was ruled by the people.Every ten days the people would come together and talk about laws, and vote on new laws. Slaves, women, and metics couldn't vote because they were not considered citizens.
Athens government is an early form of democracy developed in the 5th century B.C.

In Athens, in order for direct democracy to work, the community must be small enough for all eligible people to participate

The Civil participation refers to a condition in which every citizens has the means to actively engage in to the public sphere including political process
The Civil society is empowered, protected, and accountable; the media are present, professional, and independent of Government influence, equal access.
Through these means, the population can also participate in politics, provide on a check on the Government and influence the government policy.
Active citizenship were individual has a direct input into the the policy formation process and those with direct experience of services or new social needs are given a voice to determine policy and practice.
Eligibility to vote in the U.S is determine by both federal and state law.
Currently, only citizens can vote in the u.s. election
When the country was discovered, in most states, only white men with property were allowed to vote(Freed African Americans could vote in four states).
