Driving Weekend Sunday Drive – Sunday November 11, 2018

Since the Audubon Drive had to be pushed back to Sunday, November 18th we are adding an-

other drive to the Driving Weekend. It will be held at Katydid Farm, 359 State Park Road,

Windsor, and will be a time to honor all drivers, grooms, navigators and volunteers from the

Aiken Driving Club who have passed away.

Come and join us to honor those who have paved the way for us to enjoy the sport we love –

driving our equines.

There will be a long (appx. 5 miles) and a short (appx. 3 miles) marked course set up for eve-

ryone to drive at will. Mark your calendar to join us and enjoy the wonderful trails at Katydid

Farm.

Parking will be in the field on the left as you come down the driveway from State Park Road.

Drive off starting at 10:00.

Pot luck lunch will be at 1:00 so please bring something to share.

In honor of those who have passed, we will be making a donation to the local Toys for Tots

organization so please bring a toy(s) or cash donation.

Please RSVP to Diane Mansur 803-643-0334 or [email protected] by November 4.

We hope to see lots of you there.

Just returning from two weeks at the world equestrian games... A great adventure

for sure... We can all be proud of USA driving with a gold and silver medal... It was exciting to watch and be

a part of the office and having so many from Aiken volunteer. I hope you all enjoyed it and got to see some

other equestrian sports... Horses brought many together... exciting times...

Happy to see so many new and renewed memberships coming in... The Aiken Driving Club board has

planned some great adventures for driving and learning... be sure to continue to bring ideas to our atten-

tion... we want to hear from you...

Please remember to RSVP to our events in a timely manner and not at the last minute... often we have to ar-

range for food or space and it is more than helpful and polite to know in advance that you will join in...

Hope you are getting ready for the drive in the woods and the steeplechase parade this month and Katydid

the beginning of November. See the calendar of events for coming events. Drive on and be safe... cheers

Peggy Dils

The automotive industry is undergoing a revolution unlike anything we have seen since horses replaced cars. This revolution

will reveal the future car, which will change how we live our lives. Certainly this car will be autonomous. It will make travel and

commuting more affordable. Most importantly, it will deliver a customizable experience that will make travel both enjoyable

and efficient. But when will the future car move from being a novelty on our streets to becoming an integral part of our daily

lives? This white paper covers that and more.

Little Coquette is a 4 or 5 years old Hackney Pony. She is around 11 hands high and has a beautiful way of moving. She has a real sweet nature and very interested in learning. She is not broke to ride or drive but is a very quick learn-er. I think she would make a fabulous driving pony. I am asking $500 for her and she is current on all her shots.

Susan & Bob Burrows

Sept. ADC Education Night Summary,

Harness Fitting and Putting To Single and Pair presented by Janelle Marshall

There was an excellent turnout for the highly informative talk and demonstration of harnessing and hitching

single and pair. Twenty-nine members listened intently to Janelle Marshall at her fabulous barn in New

Bridge Polo on September 12. Janelle first demonstrated a poorly harnessed pony on what NOT to do,

testing us to point out the multiple harnessing errors, from the too low bit nearly falling out of the pony's

mouth, to the floppy breeching. Janelle went on to demonstrate correct harnessing and hitching of a single,

answering questions as she went, and explaining as she demonstrated with finger-width precision the de-

gree of snugness required for each element. But the highlight was harnessing a pair, which many of us had

never done, and were also not up to speed on legal technicalities which judges might or might not check. I

can't wait to apply what I learned, thanks to Janelle. Kitty Corbett, for the Education Committee.
