INTRODUCTION

• A health care system is the totality of services offered byall health disciplines.

• This system is to facilitate the centre to retrieve, update, and report the patient information efficiently, in turnhelping the doctors make timely, effective diagnoses.

• At the same time , the centre can utilize this system tomonitor their medical and financial management.

Scope

Can be used in any Hospital, Clinic, Dispensary or Pathologylabs for maintaining patient details and their test results.

DATA&INFORMATION&

VARIOUS TYPES OF DATA

4/1/2015 5

Data & Information

• DATA

It is a set of values of qualitative and quanditative variables.

Data is collected and analysed to create information suitable formaking decisions.

• INFORMATION

It is that which informs i.e.. Answer to any questions.

4/1/2015 6

Types of data...

• OLAP

• OLTP

Let’s Talk About Database...

• A database is a collection of data that is organized in a specific way.

• The data is stored in a way that makes it easy to access using queries.

• For example,

A database called 'Simpsons'.

Modelling the availability of rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies.

What is Data Warehouse

• A data warehouse is a relational database that is

designed for query and analysis rather than for

transaction processing.

• It usually contains historical data derived from

transaction data, but it can include data from

other sources.

• It separates analysis workload from transaction

workload and enables an organization to

consolidate data from several sources.4/1/2015 9

Types of systems(Contd...)

• Online analytical processing (OLAP)

• Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)

4/1/2015 10Architecture of a Data Warehouse

Star SchemaThe star schema is the simplest data warehouse

schema. It is called a star schema because the diagram of a star

schema resembles a star, with points radiating from acentre.

The centre of the star consists of one or more facttables and the points of the star are the dimensiontables.

Advantages

The main advantages of star schemas are that they:•Provide a direct and intuitive mapping between the businessentities being analyzed by end users and the schema design.•Provides highly optimized performance for typical datawarehouse queries.

DIS ADVANTAGES

4/1/2015 15

1) No Reusability of Master Data

Since the Master Data table is acting as the Dimension table which is

inside the cube, So the Master data table cannot be reused.

2) Degraded Performance:

The processing of numeric is much faster when compared to processing

of Alpha Numeric, Since all the tables inside the cube contains Alpha

Numeric values it degrades the performance of the queries.

3) Limited Analysis:

Maximum no. of Characteristics in a Fact table is : 16, Since each

characteristic column in the fact table connects to one Dimension

table/Master data Table, So max no. of Dimension tables what we can

have is limited 16.

Now Let Me come to my topic...

4/1/2015 16

Problems with conventional system

• Lack of immediate retrievals

• Lack of immediate information storage

• Lack of prompt updating

• Error prone manual calculation

• Preparation of accurate and prompt reports

4/1/2015 17

Advantages of Computerized Health Care Management System

Immediate Access of data

Friendly user interface

Time saving

Data can be easily insert/update/delete

Saving paper work

Give facility of different types of Enquiry

Data’s are easily approachable.

Typical health care value circle

A typical large health care consortium is a network of providers, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, pharmaceuticalmanufacturers, laboratories, employers, insurance companies, and government agencies. Unlike the value chain wedescribed in a health care consortium resembles more of a value circle, as illustrated in Fig. This figure is not a schemadiagram! It is a picture of how all these diverse organizations need to share the same critical data: the patient treatmentrecord.

CONCLUSIONS

The Database Management System (DBMS) is a powerful tool in current and future business. This real world Healthcare DBMS involves huge amount of research and collection of information and its implementation is possible, profitable, and realistic.

Through this system, the healthcare center can retrieve, update, and report information efficiently and greatly improve the data sharing and communication.
