Key Features

1. Earpiece: Lets you hear the caller’s voice.

2. Main LCD (display): Displays the phone’s main menu, features,modes, etc.

3. Softkey (left): Lets you select the menu corresponding to thebottom left line on the Main LCD.

4. Navigation Key: Lets you navigate quickly and easily through themenu options. You can access menu shortcuts by pressing Right : Phone Book, Left : Settings, Up : Messaging, and Down : My Content.

5. MENU/OK: Lets you access the phone’s menus and select menuoptions.

6. Camera Key: Lets you access the Pictures menu and take picturesand videos.

7. TALK Key: Lets you place or receive calls, answer Call Waiting, oruse Three-Way Calling.

8. Microphone: To speak into or record your voice.

9. Accessories Connector: Connects the USB cable (included).

10. Charger Jack: Connects the travel charger (included).

11. Keypad: Lets you enter numbers, letters, and characters, andnavigate within menus. Press and hold keys 2-9 for speed dialing.

Viewing the Display Screen

This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on your phone’s display screen:

shows your current signal strength. The more lines you have,the stronger your signal.

means your phone cannot find a signal.

indicates the call is on hold.

tells you a call is in progress.

indicates the Push 2 Talk service is enabled.

indicates the Push 2 Talk service is enabled and thespeakerphone mode is set to on.

indicates the Push 2 Talk service is disabled.

indicates Internet/Push 2 Talk access is inactive.

indicates Internet/Push 2 Talk access is active.

indicates Internet/Push 2 Talk access is disabled.

indicates you are in Roaming Service area.

indicates EVDO service is available.

indicates EVDO service is inactive.

indicates you have missed voice calls.

indicates you have missed Push 2 Talk calls.

indicates you have schedule events or call alarms.

indicates you have alarm clock notifications.

indicates you have picture messages, voicemail messages, or textmessages.

indicates you have urgent messages.

shows the level of your battery charge. The more black you see,the more power you have left.

Turning Your Phone On and Off

Turning Your Phone On

To turn your phone on:

� Press .

Once your phone is on, it displays “Looking for service...” whichindicates that your phone is searching for a signal. When your phonefinds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode – the phone’s idlestate. At this point, you are ready to begin making and receiving calls.

If your phone is unable to find a signal and not operated anything for 15 minutes, the Power Save feature is automatically activated. Whena signal is found, your phone automatically returns to standby mode.

In Power Save mode, your phone searches for a signal periodicallywithout your intervention. You can also initiate a search for serviceby pressing any key (when your phone is turned on).

Tip: The Power Save feature helps to conserve your battery power when you arein an area where there is no signal.

Turning Your Phone Off

To turn your phone off:

� Press and hold until you see the powering downanimation on the display screen.

Your screen remains blank while your phone is off (unless the batteryis charging).

Using the Battery

Installing the Battery

To install the LiIon battery:

1. Place the battery into the space beneath the antenna with themetal contacts at the bottom, facing downward.

2. Gently press down until it’s in place and the battery releaselatch snaps.

Removing the Battery

To remove your battery:

1. Make sure the power is off so that you don’t lose any storednumbers or messages.

2. Push the battery release latch down and hold the battery.

3. Pull the battery up and out at a 45-degree angle.

Charging the Battery

Your phone’s LiIon battery is rechargeable and should be charged assoon as possible so you can begin using your phone.

Keeping track of your battery’s charge is important. If your batterylevel becomes too low, your phone automatically turns off and youwill lose all the information you were just working on. For a quickcheck of your phone’s battery level, glance at the battery chargeindicator located in the upper-right corner of your phone’s displayscreen. If the battery charge is getting too low, the low battery icon( ) appears and the phone sounds a warning tone.

Warning! Using the wrong battery charger could cause damage to your phoneand void the warranty.

Note: Long backlight settings, searching for service, vibrate mode, Push 2 Talkmode and browser use affect the battery’s talk and standby times.

Using the Travel Charger

To use the travel charger provided with your phone:

1. Plug the travel charger into a wall outlet.

2. Plug the other end of the travel charger into the bottom of yourphone (with the battery installed).

� Charging when your phone is turned on:The battery icon appears as follows while charging.

→ → → The battery icon turns to when charging is completed.

� Charging when your phone is turned off:The battery icon appears, and the message “BATTERYCHARGING--Power Off--” is shown on the display whilecharging. When the battery is completely discharged, it maytake several minutes until the message is shown on thedisplay. The battery icon turns to , and the messagechanges to “CHARGING COMPLETE--Power Off--” whencharging is completed.

Tip: Be sure to watch your phone’s battery level indicator and charge the batterybefore it runs out of power.

Displaying Your Phone Number

To display your phone number:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Contacts and press .

3. Select My Phone# and press .

Tip: You can also display your phone number from the Phone Info menu. Press , select Settings, select Phone Info, and select My Phone#.

Making Calls

To place a call using your keypad:

1. Make sure your phone is on.

2. Enter a phone number. (If you make a mistake while dialing,press to erase one digit at a time. Press and hold toerase the entire number.)

3. Press or .

4. When you’re finished, press to end the call.

Important: When you use your phone to maximise performance, extend theantenna and do not touch the antenna.

Dialing Options

Dialing options are displayed when you press Options (right softkey)after entering numbers in the phone’s standby mode.

� Abbrev. Dial to dial the phone number in your Contacts list thatends with the appropriate digits you entered. (See “UsingAbbreviated Dialing” on page 21 and “Setting AbbreviatedDialing” on page 46.)

� Call to dial the phone number.

� Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

� Send Message to send a Text message (page 117) or a Picturemessage (page 158).

� Save Phone# to save the phone number in your Contacts list. (See“Saving a Phone Number” on page 18.)

� Find to display Contacts list entries that end with the digits youentered. (See “Finding a Phone Number” on page 18.)

� Hard Pause to insert a hard pause. (See “Dialing and SavingPhone Numbers With Pauses” on page 19.)

� 2-Sec. Pause to insert a 2-second pause. (See “Dialing andSaving Phone Numbers With Pauses” on page 19.)

� Hyphen to insert a hyphen. (Hyphens are generally for visualappeal only; they are not necessary when entering numbers.)

To answer an incoming call with the flip closed:

2. When your phone rings or vibrates, press and hold the SideVoice/Call key ( ) on the right side of the phone. (The callwill be answered in speakerphone mode.)– or –Open the phone to use the earpiece.

Note: If the setting for Open Flip is set to “No Action,” opening the phone will notanswer the call. (See “Setting the Open/Close Flip Option” on page 44.)

Your phone notifies you of incoming calls in the following ways:

� The phone rings and/or vibrates.

� The LED (on the front of the phone) flashes.

� The backlight illuminates.

� The screen displays an incoming call message.

� If available, the phone number of the caller is displayed.

� If the phone number is in your Contacts list, the contact’s name isdisplayed.

The following options are also displayed by pressing Options (rightsoftkey).

� Answer to answer the call.

� Answer:Speaker to answer the call in speakerphone mode.

� Answer on Hold to put the call on hold. (See “Setting Answer onHold” on page 13.)

� Screen Call to answer the call by using a pre-recordedannouncement.

Setting Answer on Hold

This feature allows you to hold an incoming call when you cannotanswer immediately.

To set Answer on Hold:

1. When you receive an incoming call, press Options (rightsoftkey).

2. Select Answer on Hold and press . (The caller hears a messagewhile waiting for you to answer. will display on the screenwhile the call is on hold.)

To resume the call:

� Press Answer (left softkey) or .

Ending a Call

To disconnect a call when you are finished:

Using the Speakerphone

The speakerphone feature lets you hear audio through the speakerand talk without holding the phone. When the speakerphone isactivated, use the volume control keys on the side of the phone toadjust the volume.

To turn the speakerphone on during a call:

To turn the speakerphone off during a call:

Adjusting Volume During a Conversation

When you need to adjust the receiver volume during a conversation,use the side volume key, or press the navigation key up or downwhile a call is in progress.

To mute a call:

Calling Emergency Numbers

You can place calls to 111 (dial and press ),even if your phone is locked or your account is restricted. Once youdial the numbers, your phone will enter Emergency mode.

Press Options (right softkey) to display the options.

� Speaker On to activate speakerphone mode. (If you are inspeakerphone mode, the option will appear as Speaker Off todeactivate.)

� Unlock Phone to unlock your phone (appears only if the phone islocked).

� Close Menu to close the pop-up menu (appears only if the phoneis unlocked).

Tip: Press My Phone (left softkey) to display your phone number duringEmergency mode with the phone unlocked.

To exit Emergency mode:

1. Press Options (right softkey) to display the options.

2. Select Exit Emergency and press .

Saving a Phone Number

Your phone can store up to 500 phone numbers in up to 300Contacts entries (an entry may contain up to seven numbers). Eachentry’s name can contain 16 characters. Your phone automaticallysorts the Contacts entries alphabetically.

To save a number from standby mode:

1. Enter a phone number.

2. Press Options (right softkey).

3. Select Save Phone# and press .

4. Select a label and press .

5. Enter a name and press .Once you have stored an entry in the Contacts list, you areprompted to select the following entry mode:

� New Name to enter a name directly.

� From Ph. Book to select a name from the Contacts list.

6. Press Save (left softkey).

Finding a Phone Number

You can search Contacts list entries for phone numbers that contain aspecific string of numbers.

To find a phone number:

1. Enter the last four or more digits of the number and pressOptions (right softkey). (The more numbers you enter, the morespecific the search becomes.)

2. Select Find and press . (The Contacts entry that ends with thedigits you entered appears.)

3. Scroll to your desired entry.

Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With Pauses

You can dial or save phone numbers with pauses for use withautomated systems, such as voicemail or credit card billing numbers.

There are two types of pauses available on your phone:

� Hard Pause sends the next set of numbers when you press .

� 2-Sec. Pause automatically sends the next set of numbers aftertwo seconds.

Note: You can have multiple pauses in a phone number and combine 2-secondand hard pauses.

To dial or save phone numbers with pauses:

1. Enter the phone number and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select either Hard Pause or 2-Sec. Pause and press .(Hard pauses are displayed as an “H” and 2-second pauses as a“T”.)

3. Enter additional numbers (for example, a passcode or anextension).

4. To dial the number, press or . (When dialing a numberwith a hard pause, press to send the next set of numbers.)– or –To save the number in your Contacts list, press Options (rightsoftkey), select Save Phone#, and press .

Making International Calls With Plus Code Dialing

Your phone’s Plus Code Dialing feature can automatically dial theinternational access code when you are traveling outside of NewZealand. (Not available in some areas.)

To make a call using Plus Code Dialing:

1. From standby mode, press and hold until a “+” signappears on the phone display.

2. Enter the country code and phone number and press or .

Dialing From the Contacts Directory

To dial directly from a Contacts entry:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Contacts and press .

3. Select Find/Add Entry and press .

Shortcut: Press the navigation key right to list entries.

4. Scroll to the desired entry in the Contacts list and press .

5. Select the number you want to call.

6. Press or Call (left softkey) to place a call.

Tip: You can also place a call by pressing Options (right softkey), select Call orCall:Speaker On, and press after step 5 above.

Using Speed Dialing

With this feature, you can dial your favourite entries using one keypress for locations 2-9. (See “Assigning Speed Dial Numbers” on page 68.)

To use speed dial for voice calls:

� From standby mode, press and hold the appropriate key forapproximately two seconds.

From standby mode, press the appropriate key and press or .

The display confirms that the number is being dialed when it shows“Connecting...”.

To use speed dial for Push 2 Talk calls:

� From standby mode, press the appropriate key and press .(See “Assigning Speed Dialing for Push 2 Talk Entries” on page 137.)

The display confirms that the number has been dialed when it shows“P2T calling...”.

Using Abbreviated Dialing

Abbreviated Dialing is another form of speed dialing. It allows you todial a number by entering the last 3-6 digits of any number in yourContacts directory. This feature becomes available when you set theabbreviated dialing enable. (See page 46 for the setting.)

To place a call using Abbreviated Dialing:

1. Enter the last 3-6 digits of a contact’s phone number.

2. Press Options (right softkey) to display the dialing options.

3. Select Abbrev. Dial and press , , or .

Note: If there is no matched number, your phone dials the number you set forabbreviated dial with the last four or five digits you entered. If there are matchednumbers in your Contacts list, the abbreviated dial list will be displayed. To placea call, select a number and press .

Selecting a Character Input Mode

Your phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letters,punctuation, and numbers whenever you are prompted to enter text(for example, when adding a Contacts entry or when sending emailmessages).

To change the character input mode:

1. When you display a screen where you can enter text, pressMode (right softkey).

2. Select a character input mode:

� Add Word to store words that you use frequently (see page23).

� Preset Messages to enter preset messages.

� Recent Messages to enter messages you have used recently.

� Signature to enter your signature (see page 39).

� T9 Word to enter characters using predictive T9 Text Input.

� Alphabet to enter characters by tapping the keypad.

� SYMBOL to enter symbols.

� NUMBER to enter numbers.

� PRESET SUFFIX to enter a preset suffix.

� SMILEYS to enter smile pictures.

� Emoticons to enter an emotion icon.

� Erase All to erase all text (if applicable).

� Paste to paste copied or cut text (if applicable).

� Select Text to select stored text for copying or cutting.

Tip: Preset Messages, Recent Messages, Signature, and Emoticons are onlyavailable when composing text messages.

Entering Characters Using T9 Text Input

T9 Text Input lets you enter text in your phone by pressing keys justonce per letter. (To select the T9 Word mode when entering text, see“Selecting a Character Input Mode” above.)

T9 Text Input analyses the letters you enter using an intuitive worddatabase and creates a suitable word. (The word may change as youenter more letters.) To accept a word and insert a space, press .

If you make a mistake, press to erase a single character. Pressand hold to delete an entire entry.

Adding a Word to the T9 Database

If a word you want to enter does not display as an option when youare using T9 Text Input, you can add it to the database.

To add a word to the T9 Text Input database:

1. Select the Add Word mode. (See “Selecting a Character InputMode” on the previous page.)

2. Enter the word using multi-tap text entry and press Save (leftsoftkey). (See “Entering Characters Using the Default InputMode” on the next page.)

Tip: You can select Once or Repeat Alert if you select Push 2 Talk Calls, P2T Missed, Voicemail, or Messaging. Repeat Alert sounds an alert every twominutes for twenty minutes. (For Push 2 Talk Calls, it sounds for 20 secondscontinuously.)

Silence All

To activate Silence All:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

To turn your phone’s Location feature on or off:

Your phone’s messaging settings allow you to create and edit presetmessages, signatures, notifications, and so on, making messagingfaster and easier than ever to use.

Displaying Pop-up Messages

When you receive a text message, your phone notifies you bydisplaying an icon on your display screen. You can also choose to benotified with a larger pop-up message on your display screen.

To display pop-up messages:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

3. Select Messaging and press .

4. Select Notification and press .

Managing Preset Messages

Your phone can store preset messages for use with text messagingand picture messaging. You can edit your phone’s default presetmessages through the Settings menu.

With this feature, you can notify your recipients of your callbacknumber using a the text message.

TTY Use

A TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is atelecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, tocommunicate by telephone.

Your phone is compatible with select TTY devices. Please check withthe manufacturer of your TTY device to ensure that it supports digitalwireless transmission. Your phone and TTY device will connect via aspecial cable that plugs into your phone’s headset jack. If this cablewas not provided with your TTY device, contact your TTY devicemanufacturer to purchase the connector cable.

To turn TTY mode on or off:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

3. Select Others and press .

4. Select TTY and press . (You will see a message on the display.)

This feature enables you to answer an incoming call by opening theflip or to end a call by closing the flip.

To activate the Open Flip feature:

Setting Abbreviated Dialing

Abbreviated Dialing is another form of speed dialing. It allows you todial a number by entering the last 3-6 digits of any number in yourContacts Directory. If the digits you enter do not match any storedContacts entry, your phone will automatically prepend the digits youspecify.

To activate this feature:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

3. Select Others and press .

4. Select Abbrev. Dial and press .

5. Select Ph. Book Match and press .

To set your prepend number:

Headset Mode

This feature allows you hands-free phone use. Set the headset modeto Voice Call or Push 2 Talk and press the Turbo Button (the operationbutton) on the headset to activate useful functions.

To connect the stereo headset:

� Simply plug the headset into your phone’s headset jack.

To set headset mode:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

Restricting Calls

To restrict calls:

You can save 3 special numbers in addition to your Contacts entries(the same number may be in both directories).

Erasing the Contacts Directory

To erase all the names and phone numbers in your Contacts Directory:

1. From the Security Menu display, select Erase Ph. Book and press .

3. If you’re sure you want to erase your Contacts, select Yes andpress .

Erasing All Voice Tags

To erase all voice tags you have recorded:

1. From the Security Menu, select Erase VoiceTag and press .

Erasing All Downloads

To erase all data downloaded from the Web:

Resetting and Locking Your Phone Through

SMS

When your phone is lost or stolen, you can erase your importantpersonal information (such as Contacts entries, call history, andmessages).

To report your phone missing, call Telecom Customer Service on0800 651 000. As well as locking the phone, all personal informationwill be permanently erased. To minimise the inconvenience of losingyour phone book details, please keep a separate record of theinformation.

You will be asked for your phone’s passcode. The default is the 11 digit decimal ESN which can be found on the back of the phone,underneath the battery. Once locked, your phone will then displaythe following message: “If found, please call Telecom CustomerService.”

Should you find or recover your phone, you will need to take it to aTelecom Dealer. The Dealer will send the phone to a Sanyo approvedService Centre for unlocking. Please note: A service fee may apply.

To activate this feature, the following presetting is required:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

3. Select Security and press .

4. Enter your lock code.

5. Select Others and press .

6. Select Found Me and press .

Enabling and Disabling Internet Services

You can disable Internet services without turning off your phone;you will not have access to all Internet services, including Web andemail. Disabling Internet will avoid any charges associated withInternet services. While signed out, you can still place or receivephone calls, check voicemail, and use other voice services. You mayenable Internet services again at any time.

To disable Internet services:

Recognising Icons on the Display Screen

Your phone’s display screen always lets you know when you’re offthe home network. The following chart indicates what you’ll seedepending on where you’re using your phone.

Roaming on Other Digital Networks

When you’re roaming on digital networks, your call quality andsecurity will be similar to the quality you receive when making callson the home network. However, you may not be able to accesscertain features, such as Web.

If you’re on a call when you leave the home network and enter an areawhere roaming is available, your call is dropped. If your call isdropped in an area where you think services are available, turn yourphone off and on again to reconnect to the home network.

6. Managing Call History

Viewing History

You’ll find the Call History feature very helpful. They are lists of thelast 20 voice calls and Push 2 Talk calls that you placed, accepted, ormissed. Call History makes redialing a number fast and easy. It iscontinually updated as new numbers are added to the beginning ofthe list and the oldest entries are removed from the bottom of the list.

To view a Call History entry:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Call History and press .

3. Select Outgoing, Incoming, Missed, or Recent Calls and press .(The selected Call History list will display.)

4. Select the entry you wish to view and press .

Tip: You can switch the voice call history to the Push 2 Talk call history by pressingP2T (left softkey). To return to the voice call history, press Voice Call (left softkey).This option is not available when Push 2 Talk mode is set to Disable (see page 121)or Push 2 Talk is locked (see page 49).

Tip: The icons next to the name in the Resent list represent the status of the callhistory; for Outgoing call, for Incoming call, and for Missed call.

Call History Options

For additional information and options on a particular call, select aCall History entry and press Options (right softkey).

� Call to dial the phone number.

� Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

� Send Message to send a text message or a picture message.(See page 117 or 158 for details.)

� Save Phone# to save the phone number (if applicable).

� Go to Phone Book appears when the number is already inyour Contacts list. (See “Saving a Phone Number From CallHistory” on the next page.)

� Prepend to add numbers to the beginning of the phone number.(See “Prepending a Phone Number From Call History” on page 63.)

� Copy to Personal to copy the phone number to the Push 2 TalkPersonal List. (This option appears only when Push 2 Talk mode isset to Enable and the number does not match any stored entry inyour Personal List.)

� Erase to erase the entry.

Making a Call From Call History

To place a call from Call History:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Call History and press .

3. Select Outgoing, Incoming, Missed, or Recent Calls and press .

4. Scroll to the entry you want to call.

5. Press or .– or –Press Options (right softkey), select Call or Call:Speaker On, andpress .

Note: You cannot make calls from Call History to entries identified as Private.

Saving a Phone Number From Call History

To save a phone number from Call History:

1. Scroll to the call history entry you want to save.

2. Press Options (right softkey) to display the options.

3. Select Save Phone# and press .

4. Select the appropriate label and press .

5. Enter a name and press .Once you have stored an entry in the Contacts list, you areprompted to select the following entry mode:

� New Name to enter a name directly.

� From Ph. Book to select a name from the Contacts list.

Note: You cannot save phone numbers from calls identified as Private. If theselected entry has already been stored in the Contacts list, Go to Phone Bookappears during step 3 above.

Prependinga Phone Number From Call History

If you need to place a call from Call History and you happen to beoutside your local area code, you can add the appropriate prefix byprepending the number.

To prepend a phone number from Call History:

1. Scroll to a call history entry and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Prepend and press .

3. Enter the digits you want to add to the number.

4. Press or to place a call.

To select another option, press Options (right softkey), select it andpress .

� Call to dial the phone number.

� Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

� Save Phone# to store the phone number in your Contactsdirectory.

� Hard Pause to insert a hard pause.

� 2-Sec. Pause to insert a 2-second pause.

Erasing Call History

To erase Call History:

Finding Voice Tags

Please set Voice Prompt to on before using this function so that youcan hear voice instructions from the phone. The default setting is setto off. For details, see “Using Voice Prompt” on page 27.

To find Voice Tags in your phone:

1. Press .

2. Say “Tools” after hearing the ”Say a command” voice promptand beep.

3. Say “Review Voice Tag” after hearing the “Say command fromTools menu” voice prompt and beep. (The list of Voice tagsappears.)

Contacts List Entry Options

To access a contact’s options, display the Contacts list, select an entryand press . Then select a phone number and press Options (rightsoftkey).

� Edit to edit the selected entry.

� Call to dial the selected number.

� Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

� Send Message to send a text message or a picture message. (Seepage 117 or 158 for details.)

� Call Alarm to set a call alarm for the entry. (See page 74 for CallAlarm.)

Selecting a Ringer and Image Type for an

Entry

You can assign a ringer or an image type to a Contacts entry so you canidentify the caller by the ringer or image type.

To select a ringer type for an entry:

1. Press the navigation key right.

2. Select the entry for which you want to set the incoming ringerand press .

3. Press Options (right softkey), select Edit, and press . (If you areselecting an email/web address, just press Edit [right softkey].)

4. Scroll down to the box next to the icon and press .

5. Select your desired ringer and press . (When you select aringer type, a sample ringer will sound.)

6. Press Save (left softkey) to save the ringer type.

To select an image type for an entry:

1. Follow steps 1-3 above.

2. Scroll down to the box next to the icon and press .

3. Select your desired option and press , then select yourdesired image and press .

4. Press OK (left softkey) to assign and then press Save (leftsoftkey) to save.

Note: If you set an animation ringer (indicated with the icon) and an image,your phone plays the ringer (audio) of the animation ringer and displays theimage you selected.

Secret Contacts Entries

You can hide an entry’s phone number(s) and require your lock codeto edit the entry by making it secret. The entry name is still displayed,but the entry’s phone numbers are replaced with “<Secret>”.

To make an entry secret:

1. Press the navigation key right.

2. Scroll to the Contacts entry you want to tag as secret.

3. Press Options (right softkey) to display the menu options.

4. Select Set Secret and press .

5. Enter the 4-digit lock code.

6. Select On and press .

To make an entry public:

1. Press the navigation key right.

2. Scroll to the Contacts entry you want to tag as public.

3. Press Options (right softkey) to display the menu options.

4. Select Set Secret and press .

5. Enter the 4-digit lock code.

6. Select Off and press .

Tip: If you can't recall your lock code, try using the last four digits of phonenumber or 0000.

Using Your Phone’s Scheduler

Your Calendar helps organise your time and reminds you ofimportant events (up to 100 events).

Adding an Event to the Scheduler

To add an event:

1. From the Calendar display (see the previous page), select theday you want to add an event and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Add Event and press .

3. Select Schedule and press .

4. Enter the description using your keypad and press (or press Mode [right softkey] to select a description from “From To Do List”).

Note: The “From To Do List ”option will not appear if there are no items stored inthe To Do List. See “Adding To Do List Items” on page 77 for details.

5. Select the following items and press .

� Description to enter a description of your event (up to 14characters).

� From to schedule the start time.

� To to schedule the end time.

� Location to edit the location of your event (up to 14characters).

� Alarm to select your desired ringer.

� Alarm Time to edit the alarm time (number of hours orminutes before the event starts). Default alarm time is 10minutes before.

� Repeat to set the event’s repeating status.

6. Press Save (left softkey) to schedule the event.

Note: Depending on the Power On to Alert setting,the alarm setting will be activeeven if the phone is turned off. (See “Power On to Alert” on page 41.)

Tip: The date you have scheduled events for is indicated by “�”.

Tip: Press the navigation key up or down to scroll by week through the Schedulercalendar and the Side Volume key to scroll by month.

Event Alerts

There are several ways your phone alerts you of scheduled events:

Adding a Call Alarm to the Scheduler

You can set call alarms to notify you when you need to place a call.The call alarm will let you know when and to whom to place ascheduled call. You can set up to 15 call alarms.

To add a call alarm to the Scheduler:

2. Select Add Event and press .

3. Select Call Alarm and press .

Adding To Do List Items

Your phone can store and manage up to 20 To Do List items.

To add an item to your To Do List:

1. From the Calendar display (see page 71), press Options (rightsoftkey).

2. Select To Do List and press .

3. Press Options (right softkey).

4. Select Add Item and press .

5. Enter the description (up to 14 characters) and press .

6. Select Priority and press to edit the To Do’s priority.

7. Press Save (left softkey).

Adding a To Do List Item to the Scheduler

To add your To Do List item to the scheduler:

1. From the To Do List display (see above), select the item youwant to add to the schedule and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Add To Schedule and press .

� Add To Schedule to copy the item from the To Do List andmake it a scheduled event. (Adding an item to the Scheduledoes not remove it from your ToDo List.)

3. Enter the description using your keypad and press . (See“Adding an Event to the Scheduler” on page 72 for entering.)

4. Press Save (left softkey).

Note: If you have saved a To Do List item to the calendar, deleting it from the ToDo List will not delete it from the calendar. To remove an item saved to thecalendar, see “Erasing Day’s Events or Call Alarms” on page 76.

This feature allows you to use the countdown timer with alarmcapabilities. You can set up to 5 timers.

To use the countdown timer:

4. Select a number and the following items.

� Description to enter a description of the countdown.

Downloading through the Web Wirelessly

Your phone allows you to download images (screen savers), ringers,games, etc., from a Web site.

To download a file from the My Content menu:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select My Content and press .

3. Press Options (right softkey) to display options.

4. Select Get New and press . (The browser will launch anddisplay the Downloads main screen.)

5. Select your desired file and follow the system prompts.

Confirming the Downloaded Data

The downloaded data will automatically be classified as games,ringers, images (screen savers), or applications. However, if any datahas a different category, it will be classified as dynamic (the foldername is variable). If data doesn’t belong to any of the above, it will beclassified as others.

To confirm the downloaded data:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select My Content and press .

3. Select your desired data folder (for example, Games, Ringers,Screen Savers, Applications, or Messaging) and press .

4. Select the downloaded data you want to confirm and press .

Tip: The names of dynamic folders are variable depending on data.

You can manage your contents in the browser.

Using Automatic Speech Recognition

Your phone is equipped with an Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)feature. This feature allows you to make calls or use the phone’sfunctions by simply using your voice. All you have to do is to talk intothe phone, and the phone will recognise your voice and completetasks by itself. You can activate Automatic Speech Recognitionwhether the phone is open or closed.

Note: Please set the Voice Prompt feature (see page 27) to on before usingAutomatic Speech Recognition so that you can hear the voice instructions fromthe phone. The default setting is set to off.

Activating Automatic Speech Recognition

To activate Automatic Speech Recognition:

� From standby mode, press .

The phone displays the Command menu and prompts you to say thename of the command you want to use. To complete your task,simply follow the Voice Prompt instructions. You can respond toeach instruction by speaking into your phone after hearing a beep.

The following is a list of available ASR commands:

� Contact to call an entry in your Contacts list. (See next page fordetails.)

� Dial Number to dial a phone number by speaking the number. (Seepage 89 for details.)

� Call Voice Tag to call the person stored in the Voice Tag List. (Seepage 90 for details.)

� Find Contact to find an entry stored in your Contacts list. (See page 89 for details.)

Making a Voice Call by Using ASR

With ASR, you can make a voice call by speaking a name, phonenumber, or using a voice tag.

To make a voice call by speaking a name:

2. Say “Contact” to your phone.

3. Say the full name of a contact in your Contacts list (e.g., “JohnJones”).

4. Say which phone you would like to call (e.g., “Mobile”).

Shortcut: To execute several commands at a time, you can also say severalcommands continuously (e.g. “Contact, John Jones, Mobile”).

5. The phone will automatically place a call if it recognises yourvoice.

6. When you are finished, press .

Note: If the phone does not recognise the name, the phone will find the closestmatch in your Contacts list and display a list of up to three names. You will hearthe voice prompt “Did you say…” followed by the matched name. You canconfirm the name by saying “Yes,” or change the selection by saying “No.”

Tip: During ASR operation, you can also select your desired items by using thenavigation key or pressing available softkeys on the display.

Making International Calls by Using ASR

Your phone’s ASR Dialing feature can dial the international accesscode when you are traveling outside of New Zealand.

To make international calls by using ASR:

1. Press to activate the Command menu.

2. Say “International.”

3. Say the digits of the country code.

4. Say the digits of the phone number.

5. The phone automatically places the call if it recognises yourvoice.

6. When you are finished, press .

Note: If the phone does not recognise the country code/number, the phone willfind the most likely match code/number and display a list of up to three numbers.You will hear the voice prompt “Did you say…” followed by the matchedcode/number. You can confirm the number by saying “Yes,” or say “No” tochange the selection.

Making a Push 2 Talk Call by Using ASR

You can place a Push 2 Talk call by using automatic speechrecognition from your Push 2 Talk List. To make a Push 2 Talk Call,your phone’s Push 2 Talk mode must be set to Enable (see “SettingPush 2 Talk Mode” on page 121 for details).

To make a Push 2 Talk Call:

1. Press to activate the Command menu.

2. Say “Push 2 Talk.” (The command menu of your Push 2 Talk Listwill display.)

3. Choose from one of the following options:

� Contact to place a Push 2 Talk call from the Personal List.

� Group to place a Push 2 Talk call from the Personal Groups.

Using Digit Training

This feature allows you to train the phone to recognise your voice.You can get better recognition accuracy by programming yourintonation pattern into your phone.

To program Digit Training:

1. Press to activate the Command menu.

2. Say “Tools.”

3. Say “Digit Training.”

4. Say “Start” or press Start (left softkey) to start programming.

5. Follow the voice prompts and recite the digits that appear onthe display (also heard) into your phone’s microphone. (A voiceprompt will indicate the percentage of training you havecompleted.)

6. Respond to the voice prompt repeatedly until adaptation iscomplete. (When you are finished training, you will hear aconfirmation that the adaptation has been successfullycompleted.)

Note: Try digit training in a quiet environment for the best results. When you train,make sure you speak clearly, distinctly, and naturally, one digit at a time.

To activate Digit Training:

1. Press to activate the Command menu.

2. Say “Tools.”

3. Say “Digit Training.”

4. Say “On” or press On (right softkey) to activate the existing data.(A voice prompt will announce the activation of digit training.)

To deactivate Digit Training:

1. Follow steps 1-3 above.

Recording a Voice Memo in the miniSD Card

To record a voice memo in the miniSD card:

1. From the voice recorder menu, select Auto Save to and press .

� Phone to save the voice recording to your phone.

� miniSD to save the voice recording to the miniSD.

� Switch w/Card to save the voice recording to the miniSDwhen the miniSD card is inserted, and to your phone whenthe miniSD card is not inserted.

2. Select miniSD and press .

3. To start recording, follow the steps 1-3 in “Recording a VoiceMemo” on page 96.

Note: The maximum number of files that can be stored and managed in the Voicefolder on a miniSD is 1000 files.

Playing Voice Recordings

To play individual or all voice recordings:

1. From the voice recorder menu, select Play or Play:Speaker, andpress .

2. Select Voice Data and press .

� Select miniSD if you want to play the voice recordings savedin the miniSD. (The miniSD option appears when theminiSD is inserted.)

� Play Selected or Play All to play the selected or all the voicerecordings.

Setting the Recording Guard

With this feature, you can record voice recordings without anyinterruption such as incoming calls.

2. Select Recording Guard and press .

3. Select On or Off and press .

While Recording Guard is on, your phone’s standby screen willdisplay “Phone Off”.

Erasing Voice Recordings

To erase an individual voice recordings saved in the phone:

3. Press to check the box(es) next to the voice recording andpress Options (right softkey).

Setting Up Screen Call

This feature enables you to screen incoming calls by using a recordedannouncement, either one that is pre-recorded or one that you record.

Activating Screen Call

To start Screen Call when you have incoming calls:

1. When the phone rings or vibrates, press Options (right softkey)to display the options.

2. Select Screen Call and press .

To set Auto Screen Call:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Tools and press .

3. Select Voice Services and press .

4. Select Screen Call and press .

5. Select Auto and press .

6. Select On and press .

7. Set the answering time by using numeric keys or by pressing thenavigation key up or down.

6. Select Pre-Recorded and press Edit (right softkey).

Using the miniSD Card

Your phone comes with a miniSD (Secure Digital) memory card andits adapter to expand the phone’s available memory space. It allowsyou to easily store images, music, and voice data in your phone.

Inserting the miniSD Card

1. Open the miniSD card slot by lifting the cover upward. Hold theminiSD card with the label side facing up and the notchedcorner on the right.

2. Insert the card by sliding it into the slot and gently press downuntil it snaps into place.

� Once you have inserted the miniSD card, your phonedisplays the icon.

3. Close the slot cover.

Important Note: Be sure to use only recommended miniSD cards. Using non-recommended miniSD cards could cause data loss and damage your phone. Werecommend using miniSD cards listed below. SANDISK: 16MB-1GB, LEXAR:32MB-128MB and other SD cards recommendedby your Telecom Dealer.

Removing the miniSD Card

1. To remove the card, make sure the power is off. Open theminiSD card slot by lifting the cover upward. Push the top of thecard into the slot to unlock it.

2. Gently pull the card from its slot.

3. Close the slot cover.

Note: The miniSD card and its adapter can be easily damaged by improperoperation. Please be careful when inserting, removing, or handling them.

Note: The miniSD card slot cover may come off if forcibly pulled. If this occurs,simply place the cover back into its original position.

miniSD Icon Indicators

When an included miniSD card is inserted in the phone, thefollowing icon will appear at the top right of the screen. The miniSDicon does not appear unless a card is in the phone.

Status Icon Meaning

This icon indicates miniSD is inserted into your phone.It turns to green while miniSD is being accessed.

Note: DO NOT remove a miniSD card while files are being accessed or transferredor data may become damaged or lost.

Note: Make sure your battery is fully charged before using the miniSD card. Your data may become damaged or unusable if the battery runs out while usingthe miniSD card.

Using the miniSD Adapter

The supplied miniSD adapter allows miniSD cards to be used in SDcompatible devices. Before using the SD compatible host, you willneed to insert the miniSD card into the miniSD adapter.

To insert the miniSD card into the miniSD adapter:

� With the label side of the miniSD card facing up, insert the cardinto the provided miniSD adapter and gently slide the card untilit is fully inserted.

To remove the miniSD card from the miniSD adapter:

� Hold the front edge of the miniSD card and gently pull/liftoutward to remove it.

Important: To protect your vital data when usingthe miniSD adapter, lock the write-protect switchto prevent the inadvertent overwriting of data.

Creating Folders in the miniSD Card

This feature allows you to create basic folders in the miniSD card.

To create folders in the miniSD card:

1. With the miniSD inserted, press to access the main menu.

2. Select Tools and press .

3. Select miniSD and press .

5. Select Create Folders and press . (The basic miniSD folders -Picture, Video, Voice, and Media - will be created.)

Viewing Memory in the miniSD Card

With this feature, you can display the memory used and available inthe miniSD card.

To view available memory space:

1. Follow steps 1-4 above to display the miniSD Settings menu.

2. Select View Memory and press . (The available memory spacedisplays.)

Formatting the miniSD Card

With this feature, you can easily remove all files stored in the miniSD card.

To format the miniSD card:

1. Follow steps 1-4 above to display the miniSD Settings menu.

2. Select Format and press .

3. If you’re sure you want to format your miniSD card, select Yesand press .

Note: The formatting procedure erases all the data on the miniSD card andCANNOT be retrieved. To prevent the loss of important data, please backup toanother device before you format the card.

Note: In some cases, a miniSD card formatted in a computer may not berecognised by the phone and cannot be formatted using your phone.

To display the miniSD files:

Playing Video or Audio on the miniSD

Your phone comes with a Media Player with easy-to-use playbackfeatures. It allows you to play video or audio clips wherever you go.

Playing a Video or Audio Clip on the miniSD

To access your media folder on the miniSD:

1. With the miniSD inserted, press to access the main menu.

2. Select Media Player and press .

3. Select miniSD and press .

4. Use your navigation key to scroll to the clip you would like toplay and press Select (left softkey) or to start playback.

Note: In some instances, you may not be able to play the media file on your phoneif you have added any sort of sound effects etc., modifying your media file.

Playback Functions

To start or stop the playback:

� Press or the left softkey (Pause or Play) to pause or play.

To pause or restart the playback with the flip closed:

� Close the flip while playing a media file and press to pauseor restart.

To fast forward the playback:

� Press and hold the navigation key right until you reach thedesired spot.

To rewind the playback:

� Press and hold the navigation key left until you reach thedesired spot.

To play the previous/next media file:

1. Press the up or down navigation key while playing a media file.(You will see a list of media files.)

2. Select your desired file and press . (The file will also playautomatically after 3 seconds of highlighting.)

To play the next media file with the flip closed:

To select a play mode:

1. Access the Media folder in the miniSD (see page 110) and pressOptions (right softkey).

� Single will play the item you have selected.

� All will play all the contents in the currently displayed mediafolder.

� Random will random play all the contents in the currentlydisplayed media folder.

� Repeat will repeat the contents in the currently displayedmedia folder.

� All in this folder will play all the contents in the highlightedfolder.

� Random in this folder will random play all the contents in thehighlighted folder.

Tip: All in this folder and Random in this folder only appear when you haveselected a folder in the media folder.

To display the media folder options:

� Access the Media folder in the miniSD (see page 110) and pressOptions (right softkey).

� Media Listing to display the media file list under the Mediafolder in miniSD.

� Channel Listing to display the channel list.

Setting Up the Digital Print Order Format

The Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) is a tool that allows you to setup your digital picture print orders in advance. You can use it to setoptions such as which pictures to print, the number of prints for eachpicture, and index printing settings.

To set up the DPOF:

1. With the miniSD inserted, press to access the main menu.

2. Select Tools and press .

3. Select miniSD and press .

4. Select DPOF Print Order and press .

5. Select Standard Print or Index Print and press .

6. Press Options (right softkey), select an option from thefollowing, and press .

� Select Picture to select the pictures you want to print. (Youmay select up to 99 pictures.)

� Picture Info to display the pictures information.� Unselect Picture to unselect the picture you have selected.� Set No. of Copies to set the number of copies you want to

print. (The maximum number of copies that you can selectis 99 copies.)

7. When you have finished setting the print options, press Save (left softkey).

� If you are setting the print options for standard prints, youwill be prompted to choose whether to print the date.Select Yes or No. (Depending on your printer, some optionsmay not be available.)

Printing Pictures Directly From Your Phone

Your phone is PictBridge compatible, allowing you to print directlyfrom your phone without connecting to a computer. Simply connectyour phone to a PictBridge-enabled printer and enjoy printing yourphotos.

To print pictures directly from your phone:

1. Press to access the main menu. (Make sure your phone isfully charged.)

2. Select Tools and press .

3. Select USB Connection and press .

4. Select PictBridge and press .

5. Select Yes and press .

6. Connect your phone to the PictBridge-enabled printer by usingthe included USB cable. (Wait until the connection is completed.)

7. Select the print mode from Default Printer, Standard Print,Index Print, or DPOF Print and press .

� If you have selected DPOF Print, select Yes and press toprint. To set up the DPOF Print, see “Setting Up the DigitalPrint Order Format” on the previous page.

Note: The Index Print mode lets you print out an index sheet of thumbnail pictures.

8. Set the printer settings using your navigation key.

� Picture to Print: You can select the picture from the In Phonefolder or the miniSD. (You can select up to 99 pictures,however you can only select from one folder.)

� Number of Copies: You can set the number of copies (1-10).(You cannot specify number of copies when Index Print isselected.)

� Print Size: You can set the print size from Default Printer,4”x6”, 5”x7”, 8”x10”, or Letter. (Print Size differsdepending on the type of printer you have.)

� Date Stamp: You can imprint the date on your pictures.Select On or Off. (Correct Date Stamp may not be placeddepending on the type of printer you have.)

9. When you are finished selecting the printer settings, press Print (right softkey).

10. When finished printing, press .

11. Follow the instructions on the display to unplug the USB cablefrom the phone.

Note: You will only be able to print Exif JPEG files. Non-supported file formats onthe miniSD card will be displayed as .

Note: While you are connected to the printer, your phone’s screen will display“Phone Off.” You cannot make or receive calls.

Note: Make sure your battery is fully charged before using the PictBridge.

PictBridge Error Messages: From time to time you may encounter printingproblems. Any printer error messages will be displayed on your phone, informingyou of the specific problems encountered. Please refer to the user’s guide thatcame with your printer for descriptions, explanations, and possible resolutionsfor any error messages.

Connecting Your Phone to Your PC

Before using SCP-9000’s mass storage capabilities, you need toprepare your device’s data services to synchronize with your desktopor laptop computer. Once the phone is connected to the PC, you cantransfer your data in the miniSD card quickly and easily.

To connect your phone to your PC:

1. With the miniSD inserted, press to access the main menu.(Make sure your phone is fully charged.)

6. Connect your phone to the PC by using the included USB cable.(Wait until the connection is completed.)

� Once plugged into the USB port, the Mass Storage Device isdetected by the host computer.

7. When you have finished, click on the USB device icon on yourcomputer’s task bar and follow the instructions provided tosafely unplug the USB cable. (The process may vary dependingon the PC.)

Note: To avoid loss of data, DO NOT remove the USB cable, the miniSD card or thebattery while files are being accessed or transferred.

Note: DO NOT change or edit the folder/file name in the miniSD card via thecomputer or attempt to transfer large amounts of data from the computer to theminiSD card. It may result in miniSD card failure.

Note: DO NOT turn off, put into standby mode or restart your computer whileusing the Mass Storage Device. It will result in loss or damage of data.

Note: While you are connected to the computer, your phone’s screen will display“Phone Off.” You cannot make or receive calls.

Note: When you connect a Mass Storage device to a peripheral device, yourdevice may not work properly.

Note: We recommend users to use Windows 2000/ME/XP. SCP-9000 onlyguarantees the operation on the OS we mention above.

Understanding Messaging

Message Storage

Your phone can store up to 200 received and 180 sent messages.When the message memory is full, the oldest unlocked message willbe deleted automatically.

Displaying Messages

To display a Text message from the main menu:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Messaging and press .

3. Select Text and press .

4. Select Inbox, Sent Mail, Pending, Drafts, or your defined folderand press .

5. Select the header of the message you want to see and press .(To display the message options, press Options [right softkey].)

To display a picture message from the main menu:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Messaging and press .

3. Select Picture Msg and press .

4. Select Inbox , Sent Mail, Pending, or Saved Mail and press .

5. Select the message you want to display and press .

Note: Your received and sent messages on the server are deleted for a certainfixed time. The icon appears three days before it is deleted. To preventdeletion, save the message on the server or in your phone from the messageoptions.

Tip: Press the navigation key right to read the next message from the messagedetail display; press the navigation key left to read the previous message.

Sending a Text Message

To send a Text message:

Accessing Text Messages

To read a Text message:

� When you receive a text message, it will automatically appearon your phone’s main display screen. Press View (left softkey)to read the message. Use your navigation key to scroll down andview the entire message.

To reply to a Text message:

1. While the phone number is selected in the From field, pressReply (left softkey).

2. Select Text and press .

3. Select Message, press and compose your reply or pressMode (right softkey) to select a character input mode.

4. Review your reply and press Send (left softkey).

Editing Preset Messages

Preset messages make sending text messages to your friends, family,and co-workers easier than ever.

To insert preset messages:

1. Press Mode (right softkey) from the message input display.

2. Select Preset Messages and press .

3. Select your desired message and press .

To add or edit preset messages to the preset list:

1. Press to access the main menu.

Message Folders

If you already have created 10 self-defined folders, the “Create Folder”option will not appear.

To add a new folder:

1. Press to access the main menu.

3. Select Text and press .

4. Press Options (right softkey).

5. Select Create Folder and press .

6. Enter a folder name and press or OK (left softkey).

7. Choose from the following optional features for the addedfolder and press to save each item. Scroll to each item andpress .

� Auto Filing to file the incoming messages automatically intothe self-defined folder by keywords. The following optionsappear when this feature is set to on.

� Keyword to enter a keyword for Auto Filing.

� Notify to set the notification display to on or off.

� Envelope Icon to set the envelope icon display to on or off.

8. Press Save (left softkey) to save the folder.

To edit a folder:

1. From the folder list display, select a defined folder.

2. Press Options (right softkey).

3. Select Edit Folder and press .

4. Select the box you wish to edit and press .

5. Enter or select a new folder name or setting.

Getting Started With Push 2 Talk

Push 2 Talk allows you to enjoy quick, two-way, “walkie-talkie-style”communication with your friends, family, and co-workers. You canmake 1-to-1 or 1-to-many calls (up to 5 others on the same call) to anyother Push 2 Talk user, anywhere on the home network. You canmake and receive Push 2 Talk calls when your phone displays the or

icon.

Setting Push 2 Talk Mode

To enable or disable Push 2 Talk mode:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Settings and press .

3. Select Push 2 Talk and press .

4. Select Enable/Disable and press .

5. Select Enable and press . (The default setting is Disable.)

� Enable: Lets you make or receive Push 2 Talk calls any timeyour phone is not in use.

� Disable: Disables your phone’s Push 2 Talk service; you willnot be able to make or receive Push 2 Talk calls or accessyour Push 2 Talk contacts.

Tip: If you haven’t signed up for the Push 2 Talk service and Push 2 Talk mode isset to Disable, or the Push 2 Talk service is locked, you can use the Push 2 Talk/Recorder Button ( ) as a Voice Recorder button in standby mode.

Note: Enabling and/or using Push 2 Talk affect the battery’s talk and standby times.

Preparing Your Phone for Push 2 Talk Service

Every time you turn on your phone, your phone will identify itselfand make itself available to the Push 2 Talk network. The iconappears on the display. Your phone is now ready to make and receivePush 2 Talk calls.

Push 2 Talk Call Alerts

There are several ways your phone alerts you during Push 2 Talk calls.

When you make or receive a Push 2 Talk call:� The phone sounds (depending on the Ringer Type and Ringer

Volume setting).� The backlight illuminates.� The screen displays a Push 2 Talk call message.� The other party’s Push 2 Talk number and name (if available) are

displayed.� The screen displays who has the floor.

The status of a Push 2 Talk call is displayed as follows:� The Green LED On indicates you have the floor and may speak.� The Red LED On indicates another contact has the floor.� The LED Off indicates the floor is open. (You can take the floor

and speak by pressing and holding .)

� From standby mode, press the Push 2 Talk/Recorder button onthe side of your phone ( ) to access the Push 2 Talk List.

Selecting Contacts List

When your phone displays a Push 2 Talk List, the left softkey islabeled Go to. To switch to another Contacts list, press Go to (leftsoftkey), select your desired list, and press .

� Personal List/Personal Grps. contain your personal Push 2 Talkcontact names and numbers, separately or in groups. You cancreate and edit your own Personal List. Your phone can store atotal of 200 entries (you may include up to five contacts pergroup).

� Outgoing shows the last 20 different Push 2 Talk calls you placed.

� Incoming shows the last 20 different Push 2 Talk calls you accepted.

� Missed shows the last 20 Push 2 Talk calls you missed.

Making a Push 2 Talk Call (1-to-1 Call)

You can place a 1-to-1 Push 2 Talk call by selecting a contact from thePush 2 Talk List.

To place a Push 2 Talk call by selecting a contact:

1. Press .

2. Press Go to (left softkey), select the list from which you want toplace a call (Personal List, Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed), andpress .

Tip: You can also select Enter P2T# from the Go to option to enter a Push 2 Talknumber directly. (See page 126 for details.)

3. Scroll to the contact you want to call, and press and hold toplace the call and take the floor. (You will see “P2T calling...” and“Connecting...” followed by “You have floor.” You can now beginspeaking.)– or – Scroll to the contact you want to call and press and release to place the call. Note: During a Push 2 Talk call, the “floor” is the right to speak. When you see“Floor is open.,” the first person to press the Push 2 Talk/Recorder button ( )can speak (while holding the button). Only the person who has the floor can speak.The phone beeps if you press when another contact has the floor.

4. Continue holding as you speak. (When you are finishedspeaking, release to allow the other contact to speak.When the other party takes the floor, you will see the speaker’sname and phone number and the text “has floor.”)

Note: When neither party has the floor during a Push 2 Talk call, “Floor is open.”appears on the display. If no one takes the floor for 20 seconds, the Push 2 Talkcall ends automatically.

Making a Push 2 Talk Call (Group Call)

You can make a Push 2 Talk call to all members in a Group entry,which you have in your Push 2 Talk List. You can communicate withup to five members at a time.

To place a Push 2 Talk Group call:

2. Press Go to (left softkey), select the list from which you want tomake a Group call (Personal Grps.) and press .

3. Scroll to the group you want to call, and press and hold toplace the call and take the floor. (You will see “P2T calling...” and“Connecting...” followed by “You have floor.” Continue with thePush 2 Talk call as described on the previous page.)

� To make a Push 2 Talk call to a group member, select yourdesired group, select your desired group member, and pressand hold .

Receiving a Push 2 Talk Call

To receive a Push 2 Talk call:

1. Make sure your phone’s Push 2 Talk mode is enabled (see“Setting Push 2 Talk Mode” on page 121).

2. When you receive a Push 2 Talk call from a contact, “P2T Call,”the contact’s name, and the Push 2 Talk number appear on thedisplay.

� When you receive a group call, “Group Call” appears.

3. If the person placing the call has kept the floor (held the Push 2 Talk/Recorder button), you will see the contact nameand Push 2 Talk number along with “has floor.,” and you will hearthe caller speaking.

4. When the caller finishes speaking and releases , you willsee “Floor is open.” on the display screen. Press and hold totake the floor and reply to the caller. (You will see “You have floor.”and hear a tone confirming that you may speak.)

5. When the conversation is finished, press .

Tip: You can also receive a Push 2 Talk call with the flip closed. Press and holdto take the floor when the floor is open.

Note: You can change the volume and the speaker setting during a Push 2 Talkcall. Volume: Adjust the voice volume by using the Side Volume key or by pressingthe navigation key up or down except when you are pressing and holding thePush 2 Talk button. Speaker: Switch the speaker on or off by pressing theSpeaker button .

2. Press Go to (left softkey), select the list from which you want tocopy an entry (Personal Grps., Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed),and press .

3. Select the entry you want to copy and press Options (rightsoftkey).

You can set the speakerphone on or off when Push 2 Talk call isactivated. By default, the speakerphone is set to on.

To set the speakerphone on or off:

Taking Pictures

Taking pictures with your phone’s built-in camera is as simple aschoosing a subject, pointing the lens, and pressing a button. You canactivate camera mode and take pictures whether the phone is openor closed.

To take a picture with the flip open:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Pictures and press .

3. Select Camera and press to activate camera mode.(Additional options are available through the camera modeOptions menu. See “Camera Mode Options” on the next page formore information.)

Shortcut: You can also activate camera mode by pressing twice or the sidecamera key twice, or pressing and holding or the side camera key. (seeillustration on page 2).

4. Using the phone’s main LCD as a viewfinder, aim the cameralens at your subject.

5. To take the picture, press , , Capture (left softkey), or theside camera key, until the shutter sounds.

Tip: The taken picture is automatically saved in your selected storage area. (See“Selecting the Storage Area” on page 154 for details.)

6. Press Next (right softkey) for more options:

� Take New Picture to return to camera mode to take newpicture.

� Send to Contacts to send your picture. (See page 157 fordetails.)

� Upload to upload the picture you just took to the Xtra OnlineGallery.

� Delete to delete the picture you just took.

� Set as to assign the picture. Select your desired option andpress .

� Details/Edit to edit or display your picture’s details.

Camera Mode Options

� Picture Mode to select picture mode from Normal, Beach/Snow,Scenery, Soft Focus, Mirror Image, Night/Dark, or Sharp.

� Flash to activate the flash. (See “Setting the Flash” on page 144 fordetails.)

� Zoom to zoom in on a subject. You can adjust in 20 steps.

Shortcut: To adjust the zoom, press the navigation key right or left in camera mode.

� Fun Tools to select an option from the following:

� Stitch Shot to take two pictures and stitch them together (see page 146).

� Fun Frames to select your favourite fun picture frame todecorate your picture.

� Color Tone to select a wide variety of color tones for the picture.

Note: Stitch Shot and Fun Frames are not available when the resolution setting is1.3M (see “Selecting Camera Settings” on page 148 for details).

� Image Controls to select an option from Brightness or White Balance.

Using the Macro/Normal Switch

The macro/normal switch located on the front of the phone allowsyou to take close-up shots. Slide the macro/normal switch to switchbetween Normal and Macro (close-up) modes. When you selectMacro mode, the icon appears on the display.

Note: After using the camera for close-up shots (“Macro” mode), it is importantto switch the camera back to the “Normal” setting.

Note: Placing the switch in between the macro and normal setting may result inout-of -focus images. For best results, slide the switch completely to one end orthe other.

Setting the Flash

To activate the flash:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Flash and press .

3. Select an option from the following and press .

� On This Shot to activate the flash for one shot.

� On Always to activate the flash all the time.

� Auto to activate the flash automatically.

4. Take a picture using the phone’s main LCD as a viewfinder.

� To deactivate this feature, select Off during step 3 above.

Using the Mini-Flashlight

This function allows you to use the phone’s camera flash as aminiature flashlight. To use this function, your phone must be instandby mode with the Side Key Guard unlocked. (See page 45 forthe Side Key Guard.)

To use the mini flashlight:

� With the flip closed and in standby mode, press and hold theSide Volume key ( ). (The light turns on for 8 seconds.)

Note: This function doesn’t apply when a Missed Call or Notification is displayed.

Setting the Self-Timer

To activate the Self-Timer:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Self-Timer and press .

3. Select the length of delay you want the timer to use (10 Seconds or 5 Seconds) and press .

4. Press Start (left softkey) when you are ready to start the timer.(The icon appears on the upper right portion of the mainLCD.)

5. Get ready for the picture. (When the timer is down to threeseconds, the Self-Timer icon will turn red [ ] and the phonewill begin to beep.)

To cancel the Self-Timer after it has started:

� Press Cancel (right softkey).

Taking Stitch Shots

Stitch shot allows you to stitch separate images together. With thisfeature, your phone’s viewfinder is divided in two and you can shooteach part separately. When you shoot the first part, the cameradisplays a section of the previous part, so you can line up the nextpicture with the first one.

To take a stitch shot:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Fun Tools and press .

3. Select Stitch Shot and press .

4. Select Vertical or Horizontal and press .

� Use your navigation key to switch the stitch display.

5. To take the first picture, press .

6. To take the second picture, press .

Note: This option is not available when the resolution setting is 1.3M (see page 148).

Using the Zoom

This feature allows you to zoom in on an object when you take apicture. You can adjust the zoom from 1x to 20x.

To use the zoom:

Recording Videos

In addition to taking pictures, you can also record, view, and sendvideos to your friends and family with your built-in camcorder.

To take a video with the flip open:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Pictures and press .

3. Select Camcorder and press to activate video mode.(Additional options are available through the video mode“Options” menu. See “Video Mode Options” on page 151 formore information.)

4. Using the phone’s main LCD as a viewfinder, aim the cameralens at your subject.

5. Press , , Record (left softkey), or the side camera key tostart recording.

6. Press , Stop (right softkey), or the side camera key to stoprecording.

Tip: The recorded video is automatically saved in your selected storage area.(See “Selecting the Storage Area” on page 154 for details.)

To review your stored pictures and videos in the In Phone folder:

miniSD Picture and Video Folder

You can save pictures and videos directly to the miniSD card usingyour phone’s pictures and videos settings. (See “Selecting the StorageArea” on page 154). The maximum number of pictures that can bestored and managed in each folder on a miniSD is 1000.

To review your stored pictures and videos on the miniSD:

1. From the Pictures menu, select My Albums and press .

2. Select In miniSD and press .

To save a picture or video to the Assigned Media folder:

1. From the In Phone folder (see “In Phone Folder” on page 154),select a picture or video you wish to save to the Assigned Mediafolder and press . (You can select multiple pictures andvideos.)

2. Press Options (right softkey).

3. Select Set as and press .

4. Select your desired option and press . (A copy of the picturewill automatically be saved to the Assigned Media folder.)

To view pictures and videos stored in the Assigned Media folder:

Sending Picture Message

Once you’ve taken a picture, you can use the messaging capabilitiesof your phone to instantly send it to family and friends. You can sendpictures to up to 25 people at a time using their email addresses ortheir phone numbers.

Sending Pictures and Videos From the In Phone

Folder

To send pictures from the In Phone folder:

1. Press to access the Pictures menu.

2. Select My Albums and press .

3. Select In Phone and press .

4. Select a picture you wish to send and press . (You can selectmultiple pictures and videos.)

5. Press Options (right softkey).

6. Select Send to Contacts and press .

7. Select Phone Book Entry, Mobile, or Email to select or enterrecipients.

Tip: Press Others (right softkey) to select recipients from your desired list duringstep 7 above (if applicable).

8. Press Next (left softkey) when you are finished addingrecipients. (You may include up to 25 recipients per message.)

9. Follow the system prompts to add data, such as title, message,etc.

10. Press the appropriate softkey to send the pictures and videos.

Tip: If you failed to send a message, you are prompted to send it manually. If youchoose to send it later, the message goes to the Pending folder. To access thefolder, from the main menu, select Pictures > Picture Msg > Pending.

Managing Photo Messages

Using the Xtra Online Gallery

Each time you send a Photo Message from your phone (if compatiblewith this service) a copy is automatically uploaded into your OnlineGallery if you have signed up for this service (see below). You alsohave the option to turn this function off or directly upload a photo orvideo from your phone to the gallery. You can also upload videos toyour Online Gallery, as well as manage the videos and photos saved inyour Online Gallery.

To sign up for access to the Xtra Online Gallery:

� From any PC with an Internet connection, go towww.xtra.co.nz, select Xtra Mobile, Messaging, PhotoMessaging, or Video Messaging, click on Personal OnlineGallery and then click on the Open Gallery link.

Managing Your Xtra Online Gallery From Your Phone

1. How does my phone’s Video Clips Service differ from Video Messaging?The Video Clips Service lets you access high-quality video andaudio clips provided by external sources. Video Messaging letsyou capture, upload and share videos that your personallycreate with your phone’s built-in camcorder.

2. Will I know if I’m receiving an incoming call while I’m viewing orlistening to a clip?No. Incoming calls will roll into voicemail while you are playinga clip. If the caller leaves a voicemail, the voicemail icon willappear on the screen.

3. Can I access Video Clips wherever I am, as long as I have my phone?As long as you are on the home network, you will have access tothe audio and video clips.

Note: Multimedia Service does not work while roaming off of the home networkor where service is unavailable.

4. Are the videos that I’m viewing “live” videos?No. This service provides videos on demand. The video andaudio clips are refreshed throughout the day, but they are not“live.”

5. How can I easily access a channel without having to scroll through allthe channels in my Channel Listings?Each channel will have a number to the left of it. You can simplypress this number to quickly access the clips located within thatchannel.

Tip: When entering the specific channel number, channels 01 - 09 do not requireyou to enter a “0.” For example, to access channel “07,” just press the “7” key.

6. What does it mean when the video pauses and I see the word“loading” at the bottom of the screen?This happens when the media player is in the process of loadingthe data necessary to play the clip. It typically occurs whenthere is heavy traffic on the network.

When you insert your stereo headset into the phone’sheadset jack, the phone automatically goes into “headsetmode,” allowing you to close the flip and continue playing theclip (likewise, if your phone is in “headset mode,” a phone callwill not become disconnected by closing the flip).

8. Can I surf to a different channel while I am playing a clip?Yes; while you are playing a clip, you can use the up and downnavigation keys to surf to a different channel. A small pop-upscreen will appear that tells you which channel you arewatching as well as other channels you have access to.Use the navigation keys to scroll through the different channels.Once you find a channel that you want to watch, scroll to it andpress (or simply wait approximately 3 seconds) and thechannel will begin loading.

All unanswered calls to your phone are automatically transferred toyour voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off.

There are several ways your phone alerts you of a new message:

� By the blinking LED (on the front of the phone).

� By displaying the icon at the top of your screen.

Clearing the Voicemail Message Icon

This function clears the icon , regardless of whether you haveaccessed or heard any of your messages saved in the Voicemailcentre.

Note: Text or picture message icon will not be cleared from the display when thisfunction is activated.

To respond to an incoming call when Answer on Hold is activated:

To switch back to the first caller:

Making a Three-Way Call

With Three-Way Calling, you can talk to two people at the same time.When using this feature, the normal airtime rates will be charged foreach of the two calls.

To make a Three-Way Call:

1. Enter a number you wish to call and press or .

2. Once you have established the connection, press (or pressOptions [right softkey], select Three-Way Call, and press ).(This puts the first caller on hold.)

3. Dial the second number you wish to call and press (orpress Options [right softkey], select Call or Call:Speaker On, andpress ).

4. When you’re connected to the second party, press , thento begin your three-way call.

Browsing the Web

Creating a Bookmark

Bookmarks allow you to store the address of your favourite Websitesfor easy access at a later time.

To create a bookmark:

1. Launch the Web page you want to mark.

2. Press (right softkey) to open the browser menu.

3. Select Mark this page and press or OK (left softkey).

Note: Bookmarking a page does not store the page contents, just its address. Some pages cannot be bookmarked. Whether a particular Web page may bemarked is controlled by its creator.

Accessing a Bookmark

To access a bookmark:

1. Launch the Web and press (right softkey) to access thebrowser menu.

2. Select View Bookmarks and press OK (left softkey).

3. Select the bookmark you’d like to access and press or OK (left softkey) to go to the Website.

Deleting a Bookmark

To delete a bookmark:

1. Launch the Web and press (right softkey) to access thebrowser menu.

2. Select View Bookmarks and press OK (left softkey).

3. Select the bookmark you wish to erase and press (rightsoftkey).

4. Select Delete and press OK (left softkey).

5. Press Yes (right softkey).

Going to a Specific Website

To go to a particular Website by entering a URL (Website address):

1. Launch the Web and press (right softkey) to display thebrowser menu.

2. Select Go to URL... and press OK (left softkey).

3. Select Address and press OK (left softkey).

4. Use your keypad to enter the URL of the Website you wish to goto and press OK (left softkey).

Note: Not all Websites are viewable on your phone.

Reloading a Web Page

To reload (refresh) a Web page:

1. Launch the Web and press (right softkey) to display thebrowser menu.

2. Select Refresh this page and press OK (left softkey).

Restarting the Web Browser

If the Web browser appears to be malfunctioning or stopsresponding, you can usually fix the problem by simply restarting the browser.

To restart the Web browser:

3. Select Restart Browser and press OK (left softkey).

Enabling Telecom Mobile Broadband

Since Telecom Mobile Broadband is an enhancement to your phone’sInternet capabilities, you don’t need to take any extra action to makeTelecom Mobile Broadband available. As long as your phone’sInternet setting is enabled (see “Enabling and Disabling InternetServices” on page 55), your phone is ready to access Telecom MobileBroadband services where available.

Maintaining Your Phone’s Peak Performance

� Try not to hold, bend, or twist the phone’s antenna.

� Don’t use the phone if the antenna is damaged.

� Avoid exposing your phone and accessories to rain or liquidspills. If your phone does get wet, immediately turn the poweroff and remove the battery.

Using Your Phone While Driving

Talking on your phone while driving (or operating the phonewithout a hands-free device) is prohibited in some jurisdictions.Laws vary as to specific restrictions.

Using Your Phone Near Other Electronic Devices

Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from radiofrequency(RF) signals. However, RF signals from wireless phones may affectinadequately shielded electronic equipment.

RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shieldedelectronic operating systems and/or entertainment systems in motorvehicles. Check with the manufacturer or their representative todetermine if these systems are adequately shielded from external RFsignals. Also check with the manufacturer regarding any equipmentthat has been added to your vehicle.

Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such aspacemakers and hearing aids, to determine if they are adequatelyshielded from external RF signals.

Note: Always turn off the phone in health care facilities and request permissionbefore using the phone near medical equipment.

Turning Off Your Phone Before Flying

Turn off your phone before boarding any aircraft. To prevent possibleinterference with aircraft systems, ask permission from a crewmember to use your phone while the plane is on the ground.

Turning Off Your Phone in Dangerous Areas

To avoid interfering with blasting operations, turn your phone offwhen in a blasting area or in other areas with signs indicating two-way radios should be turned off. Construction crews often useremote-control RF devices to set off explosives.

Turn your phone off when you’re in any area that has a potentiallyexplosive atmosphere. Although it’s rare, your phone andaccessories could generate sparks. Sparks can cause an explosion orfire, resulting in bodily injury or even death. These areas are often,but not always, clearly marked. They include:

� Fueling areas such as gas stations.

� Below deck on boats.

� Fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities.

� Areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such asgrain, dust, or metal powders.

� Any other area where you would normally be advised to turn offyour vehicle’s engine.

Note: Never transport or store flammable gas, liquid or explosives in thecompartment of your vehicle that contains your phone or accessories.

Restricting Children’s Access to Your Phone

Your phone is not a toy. Do not allow children to play with it as theycould hurt themselves and others, damage the phone or make callsthat increase your telephone bill.

Protecting Your Battery

The guidelines listed below help you get the most out of yourbattery’s performance.

� Use only approved batteries, AC adapters, and chargers.These chargers are designed to maximise battery life.Using other batteries or chargers voids your warranty and maycause damage.

� In order to avoid damage, charge the battery only intemperatures that range from 0º C to 45º C.

� Don’t use the battery charger in direct sunlight or in highhumidity areas, such as the bathroom.

� Never dispose of the battery by incineration.

� Keep the metal contacts on top of the battery clean.

� Don’t attempt to disassemble or short-circuit the battery.

� Don’t store the battery in high temperature areas for longperiods of time. It’s best to follow these storage rules:

Less than one month:-20º C to 60º C

More than one month:-20º C to 45º C

Disposal of Lithium Ion (LiIon) Batteries

For safe disposal options of your LiIon batteries, please ensure thatdisposal of this in accordance with law and regulation.

� Do not dispose of the battery in fire; the cell may explode.

� Do not open or puncture the battery; the released electrolyte iscorrosive and may cause damage to the eyes and skin.

Special Note: Be sure to dispose of your battery properly. In someareas, the disposal of batteries in household or business trash may beprohibited.

Note: For safety, do not handle a damaged or leaking LiIon battery.

LIMITED WARRANTYSANYO provides this Limited Warranty for your mobile phone andoriginal accessory delivered with your mobile phone (hereinafterreferred to as “Product”). Should your Product need warrantyservice, please return it to the dealer from whom it was purchased, orcontact Telegistics Repair Limited.

OUR WARRANTYSubject to the conditions of this Limited Warranty, SANYO warrantsthis Product to be free from defects in design, material, andworkmanship at the time of its original purchase by a consumer, andfor a subsequent period of 12 months after purchase.

WHAT WE WILL DOIf, during the warranty period, this Product fails to operate undernormal use and service, due to defects in design, materials, orworkmanship, SANYO authorised distributors (Telecom NZdistribution channel) or Telegistics Repair Limited in NZ where youpurchased the Product, will, at their option, either repair or replacethe Product in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulatedherein.

SANYO and/or Telegistics Repair Limited reserve the right to charge ahandling fee if a returned Product is found not to be under warrantyaccording to the conditions below.

CONDITIONS1. The warranty is valid only if the original proof of purchase issued

to the original purchaser by the dealer, specifying the date ofpurchase and serial number*, is presented with the Product to berepaired or replaced. SANYO reserves the right to refuse warrantyservice if this information has been removed or changed after theoriginal purchase of the Product from the dealer.

2. If SANYO repairs or replaces the Product, the repaired or replacedProduct shall be warranted for the remaining time of the originalwarranty period or for ninety (90) days from the date of repair,whichever is longer. 4. Since the cellular system on which the Product is to operate isprovided by a carrier independent from SANYO, SANYO will notbe responsible for the operation, availability, coverage, services,or range of that system.

5. This warranty does not cover Product failures caused byinstallations, modifications, or repair or opening of the productperformed by non SANYO authorised personnel.

6. The warranty does not cover Product failures which have beencaused by use of accessories or other peripheral devices whichare not SANYO branded original accessories intended for use withthe Product.
