Summary (by Kate Devitt, GP Academic Skills Adviser): Images found via http://search.creativecommons.org may still be subject to copyright and must be evaluated on an image-by-image basis before use. Please note that searching in some domains (e.g. Flickr) using Creative Commons Search still requires QUT staff to check the origin of the image. Many individual Flickr account holders store images using Creative Commons licenses, yet the images are copyrighted to other organisations. For example, suppose a QUT staff member searches Creative Commons for images of mission control during the moon landing and finds this image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vanderkroew/3743797932/ While the image is hosted by Euclid VanderKroew under a Creative Commons license, Euclid is not the right’s holder. Luckily he cites the correct NASA document number in the caption and a NASA url, so that a correct citation can be made according to NASA copyright http://grin.hq.nasa.gov/copyright.html . Summary (by Kate Devitt, GP Academic Skills Adviser): Images

found via http://search.creativecommons.org may still be subject to

copyright and must be evaluated on an image-by-image basis before

use.

Please note that searching in some domains (e.g. Flickr) using

Creative Commons Search still requires QUT staff to check the

origin of the image. Many individual Flickr account holders store

images using Creative Commons licenses, yet the images are

copyrighted to other organisations. For example, suppose a QUT

staff member searches Creative Commons for images of mission

control during the moon landing and finds this image:

While the image is hosted by Euclid VanderKroew under a Creative

Commons license, Euclid is not the right’s holder. Luckily he cites the

correct NASA document number in the caption and a NASA url, so

that a correct citation can be made according to NASA copyright

Scholarly Publishing Guide

An excellent Scholarly Publishing Subject Guide is available at http://libguides.library.qut.edu.au/content.php?pid=84068. The guide provides advice on scholarly publishing, how to choose a journal and maximise the impact of your research publications and the benefits of and how to publish in open access journals. Also one may access this Subject Guide by going to the QUT Library home page and then selecting Research support in the Quicklinks section. On the next page select the link Scholarly communication and on this page you can access a link to the Scholarly Publishing Subject Guide.
