Using the CCC approach to kick off continuous improvement
(Concern – Cause – Countermeasure)
CCC is a 3 step process to identify changes
It’s a great way to engage teams and take away the fear of change
1. Concerns about a process,
product or service are
noted
2. Which are then analysed
into a root cause
3. Before being converted into a practical action.
The problem
Where do you start when your business seems to be out of control…
The problem
…and you just don’t know where to start?
Start with the concerns
Don’t worry about solutions (at first), just identify your concerns
Late deliveries
Customer
complaints
Product failures
Slow response to change
Then, use a CCC worksheet
List all of your concerns, before thinking about anything else
Generate a list of all of your
gripes, issues, concerns,
grumbles and complaints
Identify the root causes
Don’t accept the first answer, dig until you hit a fundamental ‘aha’ answer
For each concern, figure
out the root cause behind each concern
Crash course in root cause analysis(!)
• Use the 5W1H questions to dig:
• Who?• What?• Where?• When?• How?
• Why?
Examine your concern
Select best ‘why’ question
Examine new answer until you reach an ‘aha’ moment
Determine the countermeasure
If you have identified true root causes you may only need a handful of actions
For each root cause
determine what action would eliminate the
problem forever
Create an action plan
Keep it simple, but capture all of the key points
Be accurate with your
actions, don’t make people guess what
needs to happen!
Don’t forget deadlines!
Make only one person
responsible for each action
Be clear about what you want
at the end
Review your action plans
Keep reviewing regularly, keep learning and close out the actions!
