Rationale #1 - Video Helps People Learn
Videos can be a powerful learning
tool when utilized properly.
Teachers who use video in the
classroom report improved content
retention, enhanced concept
understanding, and more
enthusiastic learners as a whole.

Rationale #2 - Video is Versatile
● Teachers can utilize video in a multitude of ways depending
on the topic of study.
● Video can be used to provide simulations of real world
activities, including the following activities:o Students can go on virtual field trips, visiting locations that would
otherwise be impossible to manage.
o Experiments featuring advanced equipment can be simulated.
o Classic works of literature, music, plays, or movies can be featured
within well crafted lesson plans.
● Creativity will help to connect video with learning standards.

Example - 3rd Grade S.S.-Australia
In order to get a better understanding of
Australian culture, 3rd grade students can view
a video created by student journalists that
describes what life is like “down under”.
Students can then make a ‘compare and
contrast’ diagram that shows the similarities
and differences between life for students in
Australia and the United States.

Why will video enhance this lesson?
Elementary students have a hard time
appropriately conceptualizing life outside of their
community. A video can provide a concrete
example of the world outside of our towns and
communities. The alternative to learning through
video would be via written text, which does not
provide a rich, engaging example of Australian
culture.
