Topper’s Conclave at Raj Bhawan Topper’s Conclave was organized at Raj Bhawan, Uttarakhand, Dehradun from 3rd to 7th August 2015 in which two toppers from each Universities of Uttarakahnd State were invited to participate and interact with various Vice Chancellors and dignitaries. This kind of Conclave meant to boost the morale of Toppers was the first of its kind in the country which was initiated by Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Dr K. K. Pal.

On this occasion, Vice-Chancellors of State Universities also delivered the talk on various important topics, and interacted with the toppers and other students. Prof P K Garg, VC, UTU also delivered a talk on Aug 6th.

Every day toppers students were also given opportunity to speak on dias for about 5 minutes. The conclave aimed at giving exposures and guidelines to leaders of tomorrow about various aspects of development activities happening in and around the country with a glimpse of the national heritage. All the toppers were awarded on Aug 7, 2015 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakahnd and Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand. Toppers and other students were overjoyed after attending the Conclave as this provided then an opportunity to meet well academicians, discuss with them on various topics of education, technology, science, environment and culture. Overall the Toppers Conclave was well appreciated by one and all.

Ph.D Entrance Examination 1. The University successfully conducted an entrance

examination for PhD program on 7th August 2015 on following subjects: Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, English, Environmental Science & Engineering, Food Technology, Life-Sciences, Management, Mass Communication, Mathematics, an Mechanical Engineering. Out of 750 Ph.D applications received, 396 applicants appeared for entrance exams.

Talk on Engineering Masters in France with Multiple Scholarships

Women Institute of Technology organized a talk for Engineering Masters in France with Multiple Scholarships on 13th August at 03:00 PM at WIT, Dehradun.

This interesting talk on multiple scholarships for engineer masters in France was delivered by Mrs. Golda Malhotra (Coordinator for India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal) from n+i networks engineering institute. event, with the initiative of Prof. P. K Garg , Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Technical University. Mrs Melhotra highlighted to students about various aspects of getting higher education in France and motivated the students for global opportunities. Mayor for co-coordinating the program. A large number of 3rd and 4th year students attended the talk.

69th Independence Day Celebrations University and Women Institute of Technology (WIT) celebrated the 69th Independence Day which was started with the flag hoisting ceremony by Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg and followed by the national anthem.

Thereafter, cultural programme was performed by the students of WIT. The function was also attended by all officials, staff, employee and students.

Reward Money Prize Distribution Ceremony

As per the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Harish Rawat ji announcement, on 18th August 2015, a prize distribution ceremony was organized by University for the students of Uttarakhand studying at IIT’s, IIM’s and NIT’s across the country.

On this occasion, Hon’ble Yashpal Arya ji, Cabinet Minister, Technical Education, Uttarakhand Government, graced the

occasion with his eminence presence as Chief Guest and distributed cheque of Rs 50,000/- to all such students. Technical Education Secretary, Shri. R.K Sudhanshu, Uttarakhand Government also graced the occasion as Guest of Honor, Vice-Chancellor-UTU Prof. P.K Garg and others University officers and employee were also present on the occasion.

The occasion started by lighting the lamp by the Hon’ble Dignitaries Shri Yashpal Arya ji, Cabinet Minister Technical Education, Uttarakhand Government, in his address emphasized on importance of technical education and congratulated all prize winning students for their selection in premier institutions.

The University got tremendous response from the students of Uttarakhand under this scheme and students showed a great joy that they have been recognized by the Government for their achievements. A total of Rs 92 lakhs was distributed among the students of Uttarakhand studying in IIT’s, IIM’s and NIT’s across the country. 36 students of IIT’s, 15 students of IIM’s and 133 students of NIT’s were rewarded by the prize money of Rs 50,000 each.

All the students and their parents were very happy from such a reward ceremony organized by the University. Taking a great feedback from here, the Uttarakhand Government is looking forward to create more such schemes for students’ welfare. The occasion was concluded by vote of thanks from the Registrar.

PhD Viva Voce

University recently conducted eight Ph.D viva voce exams in Pharmacy, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Applied Science, Management Studies and Biotechnology. On 17th

, 19th, 21st and 22nd August 2015, the viva voce exams of Abhishek Tiwari, Vishal Ramola, Richa Seth, B.R.L Dhammi, Ritu Sharma (Gupta), Vishnu Nath, Saurabh Pandey and Puneet Chandra Srivastava was successfully held by the University.

Hearty Congratulations to all the candidates for successful completion of PhD program.

Key Speaker at World Education Summit 2015, New Delhi

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg was invited to participate at the World Education Summit as a distinguished Speaker. The Vice Chancellor deliberated at the Summit added value and contributes to its success.

World Education Summit 2015, the premier platform on education thought leadership was held on 21st-22nd August

2015 at New Delhi. The summits further re-emphasize the resolution of WES 2015 and tried to map out the challenges and opportunities in education sector across the globe.

The summit was being organized by Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies and Elets Technomedia Pvt. Ltd.

The summit focused around key thematic areas of:

Skill Development in School & Colleges School Education Higher Education Vocational Education There were three parallel tracks on School Education, Higher Education and Skill Development and Vocational Education. The summit was marked by conferences, exhibitions and award ceremony. It provided a wonderful opportunity to stakeholders in the field of education, all over the world, to create opportunities of progress at the levels-Global, National and Regional.

WIT, Dehradun got New Director

Dr. Alaknanda Ashok, Professor Electrical Engineering, College of Technology, Pantnagar has joined as Director, WIT, Dehradun on 17 Aug 2015. The UTU community wishes her a successful and fruitful tenure

Workshop on Best Practices in Waste Management Uttarakhand Technical University and Haritadhara Research Development and Education Foundation, jointly have organized a one day International workshop on “Best Practices in Waste Management” on 19th Aug.

It started with a welcome speech by Mr Anant Bhaskar Garg, Convenor of the workshop, followed by address by Prof P K Garg, Vice Chancellor.

The experts from South Australia included Mr. Steve Kostoff, CEO, Green Business and Audit Training, South Australia and Ms. Jodie Underhill, Co-Founder & CEO, Waste Warriors Mr Steve spoke on Climate Change and Ms Jodie spoke on Waste Disposal Practices for Home, Business and Event Management. Other topics covered by Indian experts included Compost Management and its Need, E-waste Practices, Institutional Waste Strategies, and Rainwater and Drainage Practices. Keen interest was taken by the students in the workshop, especially talk by Mr Steve Kostoff. At the end, Dr. Manisha Agarwal Garg, Organizing Secretary proposed a vote of thanks to all. Special thanks to Ms Shiwani and Mr Abhishek Bhartiya for making all the arrangements.

Demonstration on Smart Board A demo was made by M/S Cyber Native Company Ires Product from Germany to the Faculty of WIT and participants of workshop on Aug 19 evening about the use of a Smart Board. The Firm highlighted the benefits of having interactive boards in the class room where text, graphics, pictures, mages, video, internet , all can be integrated together during the lecture for better explanation and

understanding the subject matter by the students. It was well appreciated by the Faculty, and desired to have such facility in the class room. One day workshop on “Intellectual Property Right” Marching ahead with the work of centre for Excellence in the Pharma (CEP), a one day workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights – In house Patent Filing” was successfully conducted by Uttarakhand Technical University on 24th August 2015. The workshop focused on various issues related to IPR, such as Patent searching, Patenting system in India & Technology commercialization. Prof. Gajendra Singh, Ex-Vice chancellor of Doon University graced the event as Chief Guest. sponsored by UCOST.

The efforts of UCOST were highly admirable under the leadership of Dr. Rajendra Dobhal who presided over the function as Guest of Honor. The Vice Chancellor of UTU, Prof P.K.Garg added his concern to the event by spreading the importance of patenting amongst new inventors. Keynote speakers with their zeal for enlightening the audience left a mark on one & all. The organizing team Dr. Yusra Ahmed (Coordinator CEP & Organizing Secretary of workshop), Ms Tanveet Kaur, Ms Monika Gupta, Mr Ashish Bagwari, Mr Amit Kumar, Dr. Prashant Gahtori & Mr K.C.Mishra extended deepest gratitude to all the participating members & honorable guests who made the event a big success.

J.B Institute of Technology

1. Tree Plantation Camp A Tree Plantation Camp was organized at JBIT Dehradun on 9th August 2015 in association of Lions Club, Dehradun. Prof. P.K.Garg, Vice Chancellor-Uttarakhand Technical University graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

In his address, Prof Garg emphasized on the importance of trees in our life and encouraged all for caring of the planted trees, highlighting the benefits of clean & green environment. Vice Chairman Mr. Sandeep Singhal, Secretary Mr. Rajat Singhal, Dean- Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary, all HODs, members from Lions Club Mr. Surinder Aggarwal, Mr. Sunil Goel, Mr. Ravi Dutt Sharma, and every faculty planted their trees with an oath to care them lifelong. Chairman Mr. L.D. Singhal thanked all the participants.

2. Students participated in Toppers Conclave at Raj Bhawan

Top 50 students from JB Institute of Technology, Dehradun, participated in Toppers Conclave-2015 at Raj Bhawan, Dehradun on August 4.

All students interacted with experts in the conclave and enhanced their knowledge by having detailed discussions with the experts and eminent academicians. All HODs and faculty members congratulated all the participants of Toppers Conclave. Students greatly appreciated these efforts by the Hon’ble Governor, Govt. of Uttarakahnd and Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun for providing them such a nice opportunity. 3. Sixty seven students joined in Bridgestone India Automotive Products Pvt. Ltd, Gurgaon Reputed Multinational Company having it does headquarter in Japan- Bridgestone India Automotive Products Pvt. Ltd. organized an open pool campus drive at JBIT Dehradun.

In Mega pool campus drive 614 students from 17 different colleges of Uttarakhand, U.P., Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh etc participated with full enthusiasm. After several rounds 67 students were selected and provided the joining by August 01. Chairman Mr. L.D. Singhal, Vice Chairman Mr. Sandeep Singhal, Secretary Mr. Rajat Singhal, Dean- Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary, all HODs and faculty members thanked Bridgestone India Automotive Products Pvt. Ltd. and congratulated all the selected candidates for starting of their corporate life with such a reputed brand. 4. Orientation Session Organized for Newly Admitted B.Tech-I Year Students An orientation program for newly admitted students of B. Tech-I year batch-2015 was organized at J.B. Institute of Technology, Dehradun on Aug. 17. At the beginning, Chairman – Shri L.D. Shinghal blessed all the newcomers with best wishes. Director- Dr. M.P. Singh welcomed all freshers and wished them a great success in their future. Dean- Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary presented college progress report and expectations from the students for their academic development and better career prospects.

Details rules and regulations of the University were also explained to the students. Vice Chairman- Mr. Sandeep Singhal, Secretary- Mr. Rajat Singhal, all HODs and Faculty members were also present in the orientation program.

Institute of Management Studies, Roorkee With reference to circular 'Circular/AICTE Hqrs/2010/4974 dated 18th August 2015, IMS, Roorkee observed this day as 'Sadbhawna Diwas'. All students as well as staff members (Teaching and Non Teaching both) participated in 'Oath Taking Ceremony' (in the prescribed language) which was followed by a run for social integration and harmony, as IMS, Roorkee, strongly believed in the theme of the day.

Sri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Technology and Sciences, Dehradun

Sri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Technology and Sciences, Dehradun organized a one day Symposium on “Excellence in Higher Education-Challenges and Remedies” on August 1st. Prof. P.K Garg. Vice Chancellor, UTU was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Shri. G.S Rana, Life Member and Authorized Signatory, Manager, SGRR Education Mission was the Guest of Honour. Prof Garg presented a talk on Higher Education – Challenges and Remedies.

COER School of Management, Roorkee

COER School of Management celebrated AIMS management week from 1st to 7th August 2015. All together 19 activities were performed both onsite and offsite. Dr. V.K Jain and Mr Ranit Kishore represented COERSM at the 27th AIMS National Convention held in Indore and won Silver Medal in AIMS National management Week Celebration. All the events held under AIMS management week were well appreciated by the jury members at the conventions. Forthcoming Events
