Holy Name of Jesus’ TREE OF LIFE Project

To mark Holy Name of Jesus Church’s 85th Anni-versary, a “Tree of Life”, a bronze tree trunk with approximately 400 leaves was installed at the back of the Church. Donors will have their names, or those they wish to honor, engraved on the leaf. The proceeds of the donations to the “Tree of Life” will go towards a much-needed Capital Improvement Fund. Each leaf costs $500 with a $25.00 engraving charge.   YES, I would like to donate to the Holy Name Tree of Life Project for Capital Improvement.

FAZtor’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora Last week, an older lady ap-proached me and talked to me. I thought she was a parishioner, since I often see her joining a regular social but non-liturgical activity of some of our parishioners. She expressed to me that she is no longer affiliated to any religion now and she has nothing of that that we

call “faith.” She said, “I had stopped going to church for so many years now and I don’t believe anything on mat-ters of faith, but I still pray at home to someone. I don’t know who or what this is, but somebody or something higher than everything, the greatest of everything.” A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and var-ious subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."" Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God exist-ed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving a God who would allow all of these things." The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond be-cause he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the bar-bershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside." "Ah, but barbers DO exist! " answered the barber. " What happens, is, people do not come to me. " "Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffer-ing in the world."

LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS! Preparation for the revised Roman Missal, third typical edition by Jerry Back In preparation for the implementation of the revised Roman Missal, third typical edition, the Archdiocese of San Francisco has prepared a series of instruction that will appear in the bulletin each week so that when the First Sunday of Advent arrives on Novem-ber 27, 2011, we will be ready to worship with our hearts lifted! Question: What is the significance of gathering be-fore the Mass? Answer from the Archdiocese of San Francisco: Sometime over the years you may have heard the idea that getting ready for and going to church is, in a way, a part of our liturgy (our work of worship and celebration). Virtually all of us need to put in some amount of effort to get ourselves to church. This effort can be part of our expression of faith, our Catholic Christian identity, and our sacri-fice offered in the Mass. We gather ourselves--the Lord gathers us--with purpose! To better understand what we do in our worship, it helps to have first a good understanding why we gather. This involves knowing the Church as the People of God, the Body of Christ, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Each of these images of the Church includes the individual (person/member/"living stone") drawn into the communal (People/Body/Temple). No doubt each of us comes to Mass with individual hopes, joys, works, prayers and sufferings--we must do so--yet this time is not our own. We allow our-selves to be folded into the mix, yet we are con-scious and active participants in the worship. Talk about mystery!

ACE COLLECTION Next Sunday’s Second Collection is the ACE COL-LECTION for the benefit of our Parish School.

BUILDING & MAINTENANCE COLLECTION On March 13, the Second Collection will be for the Holy Name Building & Maintenance Fund.

Dear Holy Name Families, A big thank you to the Chinese Ministry for work-ing so hard to make this year’s Chinese New Year dinner such a huge success. The students enter-tained us by speaking and singing in Cantonese and Mandarin and by dancing for us. The food was plentiful and very delicious.
