1. Product introduction
1.1 HRV (Heat Reclaim Ventilation)
BackgroundTo maintain the comfortable environment in a building, the fresh air intake is essential the same as an appropriate room temperature control. The heating / cooling efficiency of conventional standard ventilating systems drops during cooling / heating operation and it is waste of energy. The Heat Reclaim Ventilation was developed to solve those problems.
What is HRV (Heat Reclaim Ventilation) ?HRV is a system which recovers the thermal energy of exhaust air and reuses it for heating or cooling of supply air.It exchanges heat between the exhaust and the supply air.
Daikin’s HRVDaikin’s HRV greatly reduces the total power consumption by operation interlocked with air conditioner such as VRV or SkyAir.The total heat exchange mode and the ventilation mode can be automatically selected by setting to the automatic ventilation mode.

1.3.2 Energy saving
Note:The total heating / cooling load may vary depending on the climate or the other environmental conditions.
HRV unit recovers the thermal energy during cooling / heating operation of air conditioner. HRV reduces the cooling / heating load drastically and enhances the heating / cooling efficiency.
Proper use of Heat recovery ventilation and normal ventilation saves energy. When the cooling operation is required in winter, use of heat recovery ventilation is not efficient because the outdoor air temperature is normally lower than that of the indoor. Thus, the proper use of ventilation mode enhances the heating / cooling efficiency.
Automatic Ventilation mode changeover
Refer to the CONTROL for the mode changeover.
The load is reduced at startup of the air conditioner by the following control. Before the working hour, the room air is clean. Therefore, the startup of HRV can be delayed.

1.3.3 FRESH-UP operationBoth the excessive supply mode and the excessive exhaust mode are selectable. This function creates a more comfortable air environment.
1.3.4 Nighttime free cooling operation
⟨AUTOMATIC HEAT PORGE FUNCTION AT NIGHT⟩The nighttime free cooling is an energy-conserving function which works at night when the air conditioners is off, reducing the cooling load in the morning when the air conditioner is turned on by ventilating rooms which contain office equipment which raises the room temperature.• Nighttime free cooling only works during cooling and when
connected to Building Multi or VRV systems.• Nighttime free cooling is set to “off” in the factory settings;
so request your dealer to turn it on if you intend to use it.

(a) Outside temperature(b) Indoor temperature(c) Set temperature(d) Operating state of Air conditioner(e) Operating state of Total heat exchanger
EXPLANATION OF NIGHTTIME FREE COOLING OPERATION IMAGE
The unit compares the indoor and outdoor temperatures after the air conditioning operation stops for the night. If the following conditions are satisfied, the operation starts, and when the indoor temperature reaches the air conditioning setting, the operation stops.
<Conditions>1. the indoor temperature is higher than the air conditioning
setting and2. the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor
temperature,
If the above conditions are not satisfied, reevaluation is made every 60 minutes.
NOTE• The nighttime free cooling operation works when the HRV
unit is off. Therefore, it is not possible to stop the nighttime free cooling operation, though the forced off is input from the optional controllers for centralized control.
Supply Fresh-up(Excessive outdoor air supply)
Exhaust Fresh-up(Excessive exhaust air supply)
DetailSupply air volume can be set at a higher level than the exhaust air by the remote controller.
Exhaust air volume can be set at a higher level than the supply air by the remote controller.

1.3.5 Element (HEP element)
MaterialThe partition sheet in the heat exchanger element has been significantly upgraded. It is approximately two-third thinner than the conventional type, resulting in a great improvement in moisture absorption! The material is flame-retardant for safety. The fungiproof design also keeps the air clean.
StructureThe heat exchanger element is designed without moving parts for higher durability and reliability. The supply air passage and the exhaust air passage are arranged in right angle to prevent the supply and exhaust air from getting mixed.
Features• High air shielding
Even in the conventional less humidity conditions, maintaining the features of the material that can get excellent moisture permeability, we have achieved high air shielding, by special processing in the step of milling paper.

Newlydeveloped!Due to the thinner film…• Decreases the moisture resistance of the partition
sheets drastically.• Realizes more space for extra layers in the element,
resulting in increased effective area that supply and exhaust air can be exposed to.
Moisture absorption increased by approx. 10%!
Moisture exchange efficiency is greatly improved by using optimized thinner films and moisture-absorption materials in the element. Furthermore, miscellaneous gas barrier properties are maintained by decreasing the porosity in the moisture-absorption materials.

1.3.7 The operation is available when the outdoor air temperature is down to -15°C(Operation when the outdoor air temperature becomes lower than -10°C)When the outdoor air suction temperature becomes lower than -10°C, the unit is changed to intermittent operation to prevent freezing of the heat exchanger element and dew condensation within the unit.
Intermittent operationThe outdoor air thermistor (standard equipment) within the unit detects the temperature. According to the detected temperature, the following operation determines.
<Step 1>• The air supply fan is changed to intermittent operation, when the temperature is lower than -10°C.• The intermittent operation of the air supply fan is changed to an operation of each cycle for 45 minutes’ operation after stopping
operation for 15 minutes.• The exhaust fan operates continuously according to setup.<Step 2>• When the temperature becomes lower than -15°C, the unit stops operation to prevent any defect, such as dew condensation and
freezing. The unit does not ventilate. But, to detect the elevation of the outdoor air temperature, the unit operates for 5 minutes per hour.
• The control by the external damper (local purchase) is available. When the unit is not operating, the unit prevents the cool outdoor air from invading. The power is applied from the connector X15A to the external damper. Therefore, the operation of the unit is controlled in conjunction with the external damper.
Note:Local setting is required.

1.4 Selection proceduresVarious methods are used to calculate the required ventilating air flow rate according to CO2 generated by inhabitants in a room, waste gas generated by use of fire, and other conditions of a room. Here are 2 patterns of calculating methods.
1.4.1 Based on inhabitants
A : Living room floor space (m2)B : Area occupied per person (m2)
The above equation conforms to article 20, 2 No.2 of the Building Standards Act in Japan.
Note:1. 20 (in the above equation) means “20 (m3 / h / person)”,
which is the required ventilating air flow rate based on the CO2 exhausted by an adult sitting still in a room. If smoking is allowed, other calculation method should be used.
2. Use 10 (m2) if the area occupied per person exceeds10 (m2).
<Table 1>
* : Values set by the Metropolitan Maintenance Bureau in Japan.
Note:1. Table indicates the required ventilating air flow rate
calculated as 20 m3 / h.2. The area occupied per person by type of business is
calculated in reference to Application Standards for building administration in compliance with Building Standards Act in Japan.
1.4.2 Based on room size
C : Number of ventilation required per hour (ventilation / h) D : Area of room (m2) (See table 3 of the following page)E : Height of Ceiling (m) (See table 2)
Calculation is based on the experiences of hygienic laboratory, etc. to find out the number of hourly ventilation of the room air.
(Selection example)Place: Living room of common householdRequired ventilation: 6 times / h (See table 2)
Area of room: Approx. 9.9 (m2)Height of ceiling: 2.4 mRequired ventilating air flow rate =
Required ventilating air flow rate and the unit size such as 150, 250, 350 ...... 2000 are almost equal. So select the close size of the unit.In this case, select VAM150GJVE.

• If the zone setting is not required, or if you like to operate the HRV unit whenever one of indoor unit of any group connected to the central transmission line is in operation, refer to the applied system.
Cautions1. It is necessary to assign a central control group number.2. If you operate the HRV unit interlocked to the operation of
indoor unit, please set the same zone number. At that time, it is necessary to set the zone operation on the HRV unit.
3. It is not possible to operate ON / OFF from the remote controller for the HRV unit in zone 1.
4. It is not necessary to set the zone operation mode in zone 2, which is already set at the factory.
Switch setting for HRV unitThe initial setting is required by the remote controller for indoor unit or HRV unit.• For zone 1.......... “ON” [17(27) · 8 · 02]• For zone 2.......... Factory set (No change is required)

2.3 Applicable patterns
2.3.1 Additional functionsOperation by power supply [HRV unit]
Monitor of operation (KRP50-2) [HRV unit → operating pilot lamp (local supply)]
Purposes and functions• The HRV unit is operated by “ON / OFF” of the main power
breaker. This is possible only for the independent operation system. (When the main power is disconnected, the transmission error will be displayed if the HRV unit is interlocked to the indoor unit or controlled by the centralized controller.)
Cautions1. Install insect control wire net on the air intake and exhaust
openings. (If the power is disconnected when the damper is open, the damper remains open and the insects may get into the room.)
2. When you install the remote controller, it is possible to have normal operation after the electric power is supplied.

Fresh-up operation by external input [HRV unit]
Interlocking with external damper (In response to cold region)
Purposes and functionsWhen the operation is interlocked with the local ventilating fan (such as the one for toilet or kitchen), the HRV unit performs the over-supply operation to prevent the reverse flow of the odor. The flow rate of supply air becomes higher than that of exhaust air.

2.3.4 Examples of mistakes in wiring and system designing
It is necessary to install the remote controller for the transmission line.
The centralized transmission line should be connected to the indoor unit.
<Part 1>• When you connect the transmission line for the remote
controller, the remote controller should be installed on the transmission line.
Example of control wiring
ReasonBecause the signal through the transmission line is originated from the remote controller, there is no transmission signal to operate the units, if the remote controller is not installed.
<Part 2>• If the HRV unit is interlocked to the centralized controller,
the central transmission line should be connected to the terminal no. F1 and F2 of indoor unit.
Example of control wiring
ReasonThe information from the indoor unit cannot be transmitted to the central controller through the HRV unit. And also the information from the central controller cannot be transmitted to the indoor unit through the HRV unit.

1. In case of cooling operation1 zone: Free cooling (cooling by outdoor air) in bypass
mode.*2 zone: Room temperature to be achieved to set temperature
by heat exchange mode.3 zone: Room temperature to be achieved to set temperature
in bypass mode. *4 zone: Fresh air supply is cooled down by indoor air in heat
exchange mode (energy saving).* The air cannot be supplied at the same temperature
as the outdoor air because it is partly heat-exchanged.
2. In case of heating operation1 zone: Fresh air supply is heated up by indoor air in heat
exchange mode (energy saving).2 zone: Free heating (heating by outdoor air) in bypass
mode.*3 zone: Room temperature to be achieved to set temperature
by heat exchange. 4 zone: Room temperature to be achieved to set temperature
by bypass mode. ** The air cannot be supplied at the same temperature
as the outdoor air because it is partly heat-exchanged.
3. In case of fan operation only Ventilation mode is individually determined by the original formula of HRV with the temperature sensors.

4. Installation
4.1 Reducing operating sound
4.2 Countermeasures
4.2.1 Points for reducing operating sound1. Operating sound heard from the air discharge outlet can be
reduced just by applying sound-insulating material to the SA (indoor air supply) duct.
2. Operating sound can be reduced more effectively by applying sound-insulating material to a portion of the SA duct near the unit body than that near the air suction / discharge grille.
4.2.2 Taking measures to reduce operating sound heard from attic-installed equipment and air ducts.
1. When installing large air volume models (650 m3 / h or more), avoid the following wherever possible if it is expected to be necessary to apply sound-insulating material to them. (Fig.1)
Making the duct diameter extremely small(Example : φ 250 → φ 150, φ 200 → φ 100)
Making the duct extremely bent using bellows (in particular, connecting bellows to the air discharge outlet of the unit body)
Making opening holes on the ceiling
Hanging the unit on a material which does not have enough hanging strengthSee “Precautions for installing and handling the unit” on pages 55 and 59.
2. Take the following sound reduction measures. (Fig.2)
Use a sound-insulating (low-permeability-to-sound) ceiling.
Note:Some sound-insulating ceilings are not very effective in reducing low-frequency element of the operating sound.
Place a sound-reducing material under the source of the operating sound.
Note:When using a sound-insulating sheet, it is necessary to have the entire body of the unit covered with it. Note, however, that some models do not allow the use of a sound-insulating sheet because it may badly affect the ventilation of their radiation heat.
4.2.3 Reducing operating sound heard from the air discharge outlet (suction inlet)
1. Use the following recommended optional accessories to reduce operating sound heard from ceiling mounted duct connection type models. (Fig.3)
The operation noise level is determined by operating an equipment unit according to the JIS standard (JIS B 8628), and converting the measurement into a value as measured in an anechoic room. Also, noise from the discharge grill is not taken into account, for only the main body is considered as sound source. In actual operation, therefore, the operation noise level tends to be higher than the indicated value.
In case of VAM150~1000GJVEDue to noise from the grill, the overall noise level becomes approx. 8 dB (for a type with a capacity of 150 to 500 m3/h) or approx. 11 dB (for a type with a capacity of 650 m3/h or more) higher than the indicated value. Also, the fan rotation speed may be higher than the rated value, depending on the actual duct resistance, which may result in a higher level of noise from the grill. Accordingly, some measures for noise control need to be taken when installing the equipment.
In case of VAM1500 · 2000GJVEEspecially, a larger type of equipment (with a capacity of 1500 or 2000 m3/h) may emit noise of a level higher than normal, if its main body is installed near the SA (indoor air supply) grill; this is because noise from the main body, led through the duct, is emitted from the discharge grill. In such a case, the overall noise level may become up to 15 dB higher than the indicated value, due to such contributions from the surroundings as echoes from the floor and walls, resonance with other equipment, and background noise. Accordingly, when installing a larger type of equipment, the main body needs to be located at a position as detached from the discharge grill as possible. If the main body must be located near the discharge grill, consider such measures as :
- the use of a sound absorbing box, a flexible duct or a sound absorbing air supply/exhaust grill; and- the dispersed installation of discharge grills.
* If equipment is to be used at a location with a low background noise (e.g. in a classroom), consider the following additional measures to control noise from the main body :
- the use of ceiling members having a high noise insulating effect (i.e. a high sound transmission loss)
- measures for sound insulation, e.g. by installing additional members in sections under and around the sound source
If necessary, consider installing equipment in a place removed from the originally planned location (e.g. in a corridor).

2. If the above accessories do not give satisfactory effect, take the following measure.
Apply a sound-absorbing material to the interior of the room.
3. To reduce the air flow sound heard from the air discharge outlet (suction inlet) of a ceiling mounted duct connection type model, use a small diameter flexible duct, which excels in sound absorptivity, for greater sound reduction effect.
Branch duct (for letting air flow through two ducts to slow down its speed before it reaches the air discharge outlets (sunction inlets))Flexible duct
4. Installation of the unit with the source of its operating sound located at a corner of a room will be a partially effective sound reduction measure; it will keep persons in the center of the room free from the annoying operating sound, with those in the corner of the room kept annoyed by the operating sound. To avoid this, try to find the best installation place from which the operating sound is least heard by everyone in the room.
4.2.4 Effect of remedy for sound
Caution1. Be sure to connect a flexible duct (2 m) to an outlet of the main body in the indoor air supply side.2. Do not connect a spiral duct and an alminium bellows directly to the outlet of the main body. * A silencer is effective especially when using the flexible duct at the same time.
4.2.5 General comparison of the effect ( → in more effective order)
Note:Measure the noise at 1.5 m below the air supply grille. Operating noise conforms to JIS standard and the value is converted in terms of the anechoic chamber.

4.2.6 Nameplate for note“Notes for duct work” is written on the HRV units as indicated below.• When connecting a spiral duct or an aluminum bellows, sound at the air discharge outlet is higher by 8~11 phon than the main
body operating sound.• When using this unit in a quiet place, take a remedy for sound by connecting an optional flexible duct at the outlet of the indoor
air suction side of the main body.
4.3 Centralized pipings
Because the air flow shown in Fig.1 is generated when centralized OA and EA pipings for two or more HRV units normal air flow cannot be maintained. If a back flow prevention damper is installed in the duct on OA and EA side of each HRV units (Fig.3), costs will increase as compared with the case a duct is installed for each body. It is therefore recommended that a duct be installed for each body.(Before installing the back flow prevention damper, contact our engineering section.)
Wherever possible, avoid centralized OA and EA pipings for two or more HRV units, and install ducts for each body of the unit. (Fig. 2)
Fig.2: Install a duct for each HRV units.
In the above duct system diagram, the air of No.1 unit will flow into normal direction regardless of the operation of No.2 unit when one duct is provided for each unit.

Fig.1: Centralized piping cannot be installed. Fig.3: Install a back flow prevention damper on each duct on OA and EA sides. (Field supply)
In the above duct system diagram, if a damper is not provided and No.1 unit is operated with No.2 unit being stopped, the air flows in the direction indicated by a broken line, the amount of the air supplied from outside to OA side is decreased, and the air is discharged from the discharge grille of EA side. Therefore, the air will not flow into the normal direction.
In the above duct system diagram, if a back flow prevention damper (field supply) is installed on each duct on OA and EA sides and the damper interlocked to the operation signals of HRV units, faults such as those shown in Fig.1 can be eliminated and the normal air flow maintained.(Note, however, that the above does not apply to the standard duct system.)

4.4 Cautions
Use suspension bolts for installation. Confirm that the place for installation can stand the weight of the unit. If not, reinforce the place with beams, etc. and install the suspension bolts. If the strength of the place for installation is not sufficient, the place resonates to the vibration of the unit and abnormal noise may be transmitted.
Be sure to provide a service space and an inspection hole for inspection of air filter, heat exchanger element and fan. HRV units require one inspection hole.
Some local regulations may not allow the use of bellows in view of the safety for fire prevention. Before using the bellows, contact administrative agencies or fire department in your district. Note that bellows are not allowed in Tokyo in accordance with the Fire Prevention Act of Tokyo.
When exhausting air into centralized duct (vertical hole), the Building Standards Act requires that the duct must be capable of preventing fire from expanding through the duct should a fire break out.
When a riser duct of steel plate of 2 m long is installed
When a smoke back flow prevention damper is installed
Caution• Installing a 2 m exhaust duct in a centralized duct involves
difficulty in construction and maintenance, and is not practised generally. In actual installation, the approved smoke back flow prevention damper is used, Use Daikin's optional smoke back flow prevention damper.
Air filter cleans the air and prevents clogging of the element, and must be installed properly.
Ambient conditions for use : –15°C to 50°CDB at 80% RH or less
Outdoor air temperature condition When used below –15°C, indoor air temperature varies greatly from outdoor air temperature and frost may form on the heat exchanger element depending on conditions of temperature and humidity. Further, the frost formation may be frozen. The frozen frost melts during the day as the temperature rises but the heat exchanger efficiency drops before the frozen frost is melted.
In a place where the temperature exceeds 50°C, deformation of resin parts such as air filter and reduced life of motor and electric parts due to deteriorated insulation are considered.
Conditions:
1. Install the unit on a rigid and stable place. Refer to the specification and weight of the unit.
2. Install a service space and an inspection hole. Refer to the outline drawing for details.
3. Bellows may not be able to use depending on the local regulations. (In the case in Japan)
4. When exhausting air into the centralized duct (vertical hole), install a riser duct of steel plate of over two meters long inside the vertical hole or install an approved smoke back flow prevention damper. (In the case in Japan)

1) Operation in highly humid areas (in the cooling mode)To prevent dew formation, use the unit under the conditions that the indoor discharge air is 95% RH or less on the psychrometiric chart.
Fig.1 shows the limit under normal indoor conditions.Fig.1 Conditions :
Temperature efficiency A = 72%Enthalpy efficiency B = 56% (In cooling) This conditions are at the minimum efficiency that are the severest to dew formation.
2) Operation in cold areas (in the heating mode)To prevent dew formation and freezing, use the unit under the conditions that the outdoor discharge air is 95% RH or less on the psychrometiric chart.
Note:If the outdoor discharge air exceeds 95% RH, please preheat the outdoor suction air before it goes through the heat exchanger.
Such operation may cause frost to form in the body and dirty ceiling may result.
Provide resonance preventive measures for the body suspension bolts.
Example
If abnormal noise is suspected generating from a spiral duct connection, change the duct to flexible duct. The above preventive measure is considered to eliminate the problem (resonance) but contact our service group and provide means to prevent vibration or necessary changes of the motor of the unit body.
Caution• When the outdoor air infiltrates into the ceiling and the
temperature and humidity in the ceiling become high, insulate the metal part of the unit.

4.6 Cautions in installation
WARNING• Ask your dealer or qualified personnel to carry out
installation work. Do not try to install the machine yourself.Improper installation may result in water leakage, electric shocks or fire.
• Installation should be done following the installation manual and no changes should be made to the unit.Incorrect installation may cause leaking, electric shocks, or fire. Injuries may result if the HRV falls.
• Install the unit on a foundation strong enough to withstand the weight of the unit.A foundation of insufficient strength may result in the equipment falling and causing injuries.
• Do not allow exhaust air to enter the outside air intake vent. This may cause the air of the room to become contaminated, harming the health.
• Locate the outside air intake vent so that it does not take in exhaust air which contains combustion air, etc.Incorrect installation may cause a loss of oxygen in the room, leading to serious accidents.
• Make sure that a separate power supply circuit is provided for this unit and that all electrical work is carried out by qualified personnel according to local laws and regulations and this installation manual. An insufficient power supply capacity or improper electrical construction may lead to electric shocks or fire.Insufficient power supply capacity or incorrect wiring may cause electrical shocks or fire.
• Use only accessories and manufacturer-specified parts when installing. The use of parts other than specified may cause drop of the unit, water leakage, electric shock, fire or other accidents.
• Make sure that all wiring is secured, the specified wires are used, and no external forces act on the terminal connections or wires.Improper connections or installation may result in overheating or fire.
• When wiring the power supply and connecting the remote controller wiring and transmission wiring, position the wires so that the electric parts box lid can be securely fastened.Improper positioning of the electric parts box lid may result in electric shocks, fire or the terminals overheating.
• When installing the unit in a small room, take measures against to keep refrigerant concentration from exceeding allowable safety limits in the event of refrigerant leakage. Contact the place of purchase for more information.Excessive refrigerant in a closed ambient can lead to oxygen deficiency.
• Be sure to establish an earth.Do not earth the unit to a utility pipe, arrester, or telephone earth.Incomplete earth may cause electrical shock, or fire.A high surge current from lightning or other sources may cause damage to the air conditioner.
• Be sure to install an earth leakage breaker.Failure to install an earth leakage breaker may result in electric shocks, or fire.
CAUTION• Install the indoor and outdoor units, power supply wiring
and connecting wires at least 1 meter away from
televisions or radios in order to prevent image interference or noise.(Depending on the radio waves, a distance of 1 meter may not be sufficient enough to eliminate the noise.)
• While following the instructions in this installation manual, install drain piping in order to ensure proper drainage and insulate piping in order to prevent condensation.Improper drain piping may result in water leakage and property damage.
• Install the two outdoor ducts with down slope to prevent rainwater from entering the unit.If this is not done completely, water may enter the building, may damage furniture, and cause electric shocks and fire.
• Insulate the two outdoor ducts and the supply air duct to prevent condensation. If this is not done completely, water may enter the building, may damage furniture, etc.
• Insulate the duct and the wall electrically when a metal duct is to be penetrated through the metal lattice and wire lattice or metal lining of a wooden structure wall.Improper duct work may cause electric shocks or fire.
• Do not install the unit in the following locations :a. Place subjected to high temperature or direct flame.
May result in fire or overheating.b. Where a mineral oil mist or an oil spray or vapor is
produced, for example in a kitchen. This may cause fire.
c. Place such as machinery plant and chemical plant where gas, which contains noxious gas or corrosive components of materials such as acid, alkali organic solvent and paint, is generated. Place where combustible gas leakage is likely.Copper piping and brazed joints may corrode, causing refrigerant to leak or poisoning and fire due to leaked gas.
d. Place such as bathroom subjected to moisture.Electric leak or electric shocks and other failure can be caused.
e. Near machinery emitting electromagnetic waves.Electromagnetic waves may disturb the operation of the control system and result in a malfunction of the equipment.
• Make sure the temperature and humidity near the unit and the air suction/discharge air grille is within limit dictated by the usage conditions.Do not install in refrigerated truck or other locations with low temperatures or near heated pools. This may cause fires or short circuits.
• Make sure that a snow protection measure is taken. If no protection snow may enter through the outdoor ducts, and cause damaging furniture and electric shock and fire.
• In areas where insects are easily attracted to a light, such as where there is a window or light near a ventilation opening, extremely small insects can sometimes infiltrate the room by passing through the ventilation opening.Since totally preventing against infiltration by extremely small insects is difficult, it is important to consider a serious solution like a filter box (field supply) during the design process to protect against insect infiltration.

washer.• Sheathed wire materials may be used for transmission wiring, but they are not suitable for EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility)
(European Directive).• When using sheathed wire, electromagnetic compatibility must conform to Japanese standards stipulated in the Electric
Appliance Regulatory Act. Transmission wiring need not be grounded when using sheathed wire.
PRECAUTIONS1. Do not connect wires of different gauge to the same power
supply terminal. Looseness in the connection may cause overheating. When connecting more than one wire to the power supply wiring, use a 2 mm2 (φ 1.6) gauge wire.
2. Keep total current of crossover wiring between indoor units less than 12 A. When using two power wiring of gauge greater than 2 mm2 (φ 1.6), branch the line outside the terminal board of the unit in accordance with electrical equipment standards. The branch must be sheathed so as to provide an equal or greater degree of insulation as the power supply wiring itself.
3. Do not connect wires of different gauge to the same grounding terminal. Looseness in the connection may deteriorate protection.
4. Keep the power supply wiring distant from other wires to prevent noise.
5. For remote controller wiring, refer to the “INSTALLATION MANUAL OF REMOTE CONTROLLER”.

4.10.3 Initial setting for “Central zone control”When HRV unit is connected to the central transmission line (terminal connector no. (F1) and (F2)), it is necessary to make a initial setting of “collective zone interlock” by the remote controller for indoor unit. (Factory set “OFF”.) Make initial setting as follows.
Combination with central controllerCentral controller : Possible ×: Impossible
CautionsWhen you make an initial setting “ON”, the interlocked operation has a priority, and it is impossible to operate / stop HRV unit independently by the central remote controller or the unified ON / OFF controller. If there is no indoor unit for interlocked operation in the same zone, make an initial setting “OFF”.When you make an initial setting “OFF”, the independent operation of HRV unit has a priority, and the interlocked operation is not possible. When the HRV unit is operated independently by the central controller, the HRV unit will not operate until the preset time elapses if the precool / preheat time setting is set. Therefore, please do not set the precool / preheat time setting in normal operation.

6.7.5 Description of functions
Individual Screen, all Screen, Zone ScreenThis controller can perform operations in the individual screen, all screen, or zone screen.
Individual screenThe individual screen is used when performing group operations. All screenThe all screen is used when performing operations for all units at once.Zone screenThe zone screen is used when performing zone operations.
Basic functions
Zone control functions
Cool/Heat changeover and eligibility setting
Note: Refer to the next page for the selection of cool / heat mode (eligibility for cool / heat changeover).
Descriptions of outline
Individual / Zone controlUp to 64 groups (Max. 128 units and max. 16 units per group) of indoor units and HRV units can be controlled by individually or by zone.
Unified ON / OFFON / OFF can be set for each zone, and can be controlled simultaneously for entire system by push button or by contact signal from outside.
Malfunction code displayThe status of each group is always displayed, such as ON / OFF, error, etc. If the error occurs, it displays the contents of error by malfunction code through the self-diagnosis function.
Connection of unification adaptor for computerized control
By connecting the unification adaptor for computerized control (option), it can be linked with the central monitoring panel and etc. by contact signal, which enables you to operate ON / OFF simultaneously or monitor the operating status.
Remote control acceptance/rejectionIt is possible to restrict the function of local remote controller.(Only ON operation rejection, or ON / OFF operation rejection)
2 central controllersBy connecting two central remote controllers, the same air-conditioner can be controlled from 2 locations (By tenant or administration office.)
Descriptions of outline
Zone controlThe zone function is a function to control one or more group of air-conditioner, and the operation setting such as ON / OFF etc. can be made by zone.
Up to 64 zonesUp to 64 zones (64 groups for each zone) can be set. However, the group setting spreading over the plural zone cannot be set.
Zone register
When the power is supplied first time, each group is registered in each respective zone. If you can simply register the several groups in the same zone by switch, so that you can have simultaneous operation of the units in that zone immediately. (The operation of temperature setting and etc. is also controlled by zone simultaneously.)
Zone settingBy adding the zone setting function (Zone “0”) from the central remote controller, you can set the same setting for all the zone registered by single operation.
ON / OFF control of zone
For example, if there are three groups in one room and if you register these three groups as one zone, you can operate these three groups simultaneously by single operation (ON / OFF, temperature setting etc.).You still can operate each group individually by local remote controller.
Maintaining zone settingEven if the power is turned off, the zone configurations set are maintained semi-permanently. (saved in non-volatile memory)
Cool / Heat changeover by zoneThe cool/heat changeover can be made by zone. However, it is required to have a master group for Cool / Heat changeover in that zone.
Batch operation The same setup is possible at one operation to all the groups registered on the "All" screen.
No local remote controllerEven if there is no local remote controller, you can still perform the same operation. There is no problem even if no remote controller is connected. (However, in this case, each one air-conditioner consists of one group.)
Combination with other controllersYou can also combine with a unified ON / OFF controller and a schedule timer. (Refer to the system configuration for details.)
Connection to central monitoring panelYou can also combine with an Interface for use in BAC net and a data station in order to connect to the central monitoring panel. A parallel interface can also be connected.
Descriptions of outline
Possible controlThe operation mode of the outdoor unit can be changed by the local remote controller or by the central remote controller. (For test operation, change setting of cool / heat selector switch of the outdoor unit.)
Remote controller acceptance/rejectionYou can set the remote controller acceptance/rejection on the central remote controller by the local remote controller.
"NOT AVAILABLE" DISPLAY(NO FUNCTION DISPLAY)
If a function is not available in the indoor unit even if the button is pressed, "NOT AVAILABLE" is may be displayed for a few seconds.

Control with Two Central Remote ControllersThe central remote control equipment is newly designed to "B" type, which has been added with a new control function for 2 central remote controllers. However, be sure that the relation between Main / Sub of the central remote controller is different from those of local remote controllers.
Note:Be sure that if timer No. is registered by the sub central remote controller, [Timer mode acceptance for local remote controller (mode no. 8,9,18, and 19)] for the same units set by the Main remote controller becomes meaningless (operates when time comes.).
<Explanation of the above figure>If you operate the central remote controller in the sequence of and , the indoor unit is set for cooling / temperature setting 24°C.However, the display of zone setting of the master remote controller remains at heating / temperature setting at 27°C.
<Cautions>Operation code cannot be set by the sub central remote controller.Combined zone operation can only be set by zone registration of the main central remote controller. Both main and sub central remote controller are operated by a Last priority command for the functions other than the above. However, the display on the central remote controller cannot be changed by each other. (On the display for the group, you can monitor the present operation status.)
Sequential Start<Operation command from central control equipment>
Each unit operates in sequence. For example, if you set the simultaneous operation by the central remote controller, which controls 1-00 ~ 4-15 and 5-00 ~ 8-15 groups, two outdoor units start simultaneously.
Registering ZoneIt is possible to set multiple groups as one zone and control each zone separately. No zones are registered when the unit is shipped from the factory.Zone registration can be done in the individual screen, all screen, or zone screen.

Call up the zones which you wish to set in the zone screen and set the timer numbers.
Since the timer number will be set to after-press priority, the timer number in the last screen set will be valid for the connected units.
Example 1Setting timer number 1 for unit 1-00 to “1” and timer number 2 to “2” in the individual screen and then setting timer number 1 to “3” and timer number 2 to “4” in the batch screen causes the timer numbers for all units to be set, so timer number 1 for unit 1-00 will be “3” and timer number 2 will be “4”.Example 2To prevent leaving units on, timer number 1 is set to “5” in the batch screen.Setting timer number 1 in zone number 1 to “ ” in the zone screen after that will change the timer number for zone number 1, so the setting to prevent leaving the units on will be lost for zone number 1 only.If a timer number is set incorrectly by accident, redo the setting in the desired screen.
What happens when the timer number on time and off time are set to the same timeWhen the on time and off time are set to the same time for the same timer number, operation does not change. When the on time and off time are set to the same time for different timer numbers, the off time is given priority. When using timer operation, make sure the times do not overlap when setting the program of the schedule timer.

6.7.13 Refreshed operationRefreshed operation is the function to transmit setting of “Temperature control”, “Temperature setting” automatically from DCS302C(A)61.“Refreshed operation” is “ON” when shipped from the factory.Factory Setting
It depends on the setting of outdoor systems that an indoor unit setting is “Temperature control” or “Temperature setting”In case of Refreshed operation is “ON”• When setting is changed by DCS302C(A)61, it operates by this setting from the next operation.
If it sets up with 26 °C in cooling by DCS302C(A)61, “in the case of the equipment which has not carried out zone setting by a central remote controller, it operates from next with the mode of operation and preset temperature which were set up on the individual screen.” In the case of the equipment which carried out zone setting, it operates from next with the mode of operation and preset temperature which were set up on the zone screen.(Priority is given over the mode of operation and preset temperature which were set up on the zone setting screen). When it sets up all at once, it operates from next with the mode of operation and preset temperature which were set up last time on the individual screen (Equipment which has not carried out zone registration), or the zone screen. If a setting change is made with 26 °C of cooling by a central remote controller on an individual screen (Equipment which has not carried out zone setting) next operation will also be operated at 26 °C in cooling. (Even if it has changed into heating operation, fan only operation with wired or wireless remote control, it operates at 26 °C in cooling.)
• When zone registration is carried out by Central Remote Controller. It operates from next time with the value set up in the zone. When a zone 1 is set up with 20 °C of heating. (Refer to the system of the following figure.)When controlled by Central Remote Controller, 3 indoor units registered into the zone 1 are operated by 20 °C of heating. Because priority is given to zone setting, even if it sets up 2-02 with 25 °C of heating on an individual screen from Central Remote Controller, 2-02 is operated at 20 °C.
• When there are two or more indoor units in a zone.Because an operating mode depends on the outdoor unit, the operating mode of each indoor unit does not become the same setting. When the outdoor unit system 1 is cooling, the outdoor unit system 2 is heating and it operates by the system of the following figure. Setting of a zone 2 is operated in heating mode, because 2-03, 2-04, and 2-05 do not have a cooling/heating selection right as for 26 °C of cooling, but temperature setting becomes 26 °C.When you unify the operating mode of an indoor unit in the same zone, please set up a zone in the indoor unit of the same outdoor unit system.

Applications and features• Flexible duct is used for the outdoor supply air / exhaust
air.• The flexible duct can be bent according to the place of
installation and is suitable for installation involving a height difference between the body and the supply air / exhaust air opening. The flexible duct helps simplify installation and construction.
• The flexible duct can be extended by using provided joints.
Cautions• Do not use the flexible duct in a place of mush oil and
smoke or high humidity such as bathroom and kitchen.• Broken flexible duct and surface sheet cause air
leakage. Pay particular attention to them.• Maintain the wind speed at 15 m / sec. inside the flexible
duct. Working static pressure must be within –13 mmH2O to 50 mmH2O.
Installation procedure• Use the nominal diameter of the connecting pipe
according to the noise suppression duct diameter.• Use the provided clamp band to secure the noise
suppression duct. Insert the connection opening of the noise suppression duct into the connecting pipe and tighten with clamp band.
1. Insert the connection opening of the noise suppression duct into the connecting pipe.
2. Install the clamp band on the connection opening of the noise suppression duct.Use a screwdriver to turn the clamp screw to securely clamp the duct.

6.15 BRP4A50 : Heater control kitOperation range of the HRV is “ –15°C to 50°CDB 80% RH or below.”When operating the HRV units at or below –10°C of the outdoor air temperature, use preheater (field supplied) to preheat outdoor air. This kit is required for preheater to ON / OFF delay control. (Initial setting is required.)
Cautions• For electric heater, safety devices and installation location, follow the standards or regulations of each country.• Use nonflammable duct for the electric heater. Be sure to keep 2 m or more between the heater and HRV unit for safety.• For the HRV units, use a different power supply from that of the electric heater and install a circuit breaker for each.
Electric heater capacity formulaHeat capacity P (kW) = 0.29 × Air flow rate × Temp. / 860
For VAM500GJVE when Air flow rate = 500m3 / h (Ultra-high) and preheater so that the outdoor temp. rise from –20°C to –10°C (Temp. = 10 deg)
P = (0.29 × 500 × 10) / 860 = 1.68 (kW)
Check the temperature rise at low notch. For 2kW heater, when 300m3 / hT = (860 × P) / (0.29 × Air flow rate)
= (860 × 2) / (0.29 × 300) = 19.7 degTherefore – 20 + 19.7 = –0.3°C
Cautions at initial setting• Make sure to set remote controller of HRV at initial setting as follows :
(for ON / OFF delay)
• Heater operating conditionHeater starts operation when it is judged as Heating operation.(Judged from VRV signal of heating operation or HRV signal of thermostat.)
• ON / OFF delayHeater starts 10 seconds after HRV starts operation.Fan stops 3 minutes later after HRV stops operation.
