Deputy District Attorney Victor Avila of the Hardcore Gang Division said Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bob Bowers Jr. imposed a five-year determinant consecutive sentence in addition to the 85-year-to-life term. Rodolfo Gallegos was convicted on Dec. 22, 2010, of the fatal shooting of Kenneth Anthony Caldera, a 16- year-old Burbank Union High School student. The defendant also was found guilty of four counts of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder. He was listed as one of “Van Nuys Most Wanted” by the Los Angeles Police Department. On Aug. 24, 1991, Caldera and several others were driving home from a party when, after dropping off a friend, a car containing Gallegos pulled up alongside them. Gallegos, who was 16 at the time, believed Caldera and his friends were rival gang members and asked where they were from. The defendant then drew a handgun and opened fire as Caldera and the others tried to tell him they were not affiliated with any gang. Caldera died from his wounds. Two of the other four teenagers in the car were hit but survived. The shooting occurred in Blythe Street gang territory in Panorama City. Gallegos was arrested in Mexico on Oct. 2, 2008. He was returned to Los Angeles on March 13, 2009, by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foreign Prosecution Unit and was prosecuted as an adult. The District Attorney’s Office has been successfully returning fugitives charged with murder and other serious and violent crimes from Mexico since the Mexican Supreme Court in November 2005 ruled that criminal suspects facing life in prison sentences abroad can be extradited from Mexico for prosecution. This case was investigated by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department. TIME TO VISIT ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND St Andrews is a university town and former royal burgh on the east coast of Fife in Scotland. The town is named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. St Andrews has a population of 16,680, making this the fifth largest settlement in Fife. There has been an important church in St Andrews since at least the 8th century, and a bishopric since at least the 11th century. The settlement grew to the west of St Andrews cathedral with the southern side of the Scores to the north and the Kinness burn to the south. The burgh soon became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland, a position which was held until the Scottish Reformation. The famous cathedral, the largest in Scotland, now lies in ruins. The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English- speaking world and one of the UK’s most prestigious. The University is an integral part of the burgh, and during term time students make up approximately one third of the town’s population. St Andrews is also known worldwide as the “home of golf”. This is in part because the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, founded in 1754, exercises legislative authority over the game worldwide (except in the United States and Mexico), and also because the famous links (acquired by the town in 1894) is the most frequent venue for The Open Championship, the oldest of golf’s four major championships. Visitors travel to St Andrews in great numbers for several courses ranked amongst the finest in the world, as well as for the sandy beaches. The Martyrs Memorial, erected to the honour of Patrick Hamilton, George Wishart, and other martyrs of the Reformation epoch, stands at the west end of the Scores on a cliff overlooking the sea. The first inhabitants who settled on the estuary fringes of the river Tay and Eden during the me- solithic (middle stone age) came from the plains in Northern Europe between 10,000 to 5,000 BC.[5] This was followed by the nomadic people who settled around the modern town around 4,500 BC as farmers cleaning the area of woodland and building monuments. In 906AD, the town became the seat of the bishop of Alba, with the boundaries being extended to include land between the River Forth and River Tweed. The establishment of the present town began around 1140 by Bishop Robert on a L-shaped vill, possibly on the site of the ruined St Andrews Castle. According to a charter of 1170, the new burgh was built to the west of the Cathedral precinct, along Castle Street and possibly as far as what is now known as North Street. This means that the lay-out may have led to the creation of two new streets (North Street and South Street) from the foundations of the new St Andrews Cathedral filling the area inside a two-sided triangle at its apex. The northern boundary of the burgh was the southern side of the Scores (the street between North Street and the sea) with the southern by the Kinness Burn and the western by the West Port. The burgh of St Andrews was first represented at the great council at Scone Palace in 1357. $50,000 REWARD BEING OFFERED IN MURDER INVESTIGATION 54-year-old woman shot and killed in South L.A. LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the suspect responsible for gunning down a man on the streets of South Los Angeles. On February 19, 2011, at 9:50 p.m., 54-year-old Jewell King was walking in the area of 116th Street and Main Street. An unidentified assailant shot King once in the upper body and fled the area. King staggered along the sidewalk calling out for help until she collapsed near the intersection of Main Street and Lanzit Avenue. A nearby citizen heard King’s cries for help and phoned 911. Detectives have exhausted all known leads in this investigation and are asking for the public’s help. The Los Angeles City Council has approved a reward of $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person(s) who were responsible for the murder of Jewell King. The motive for this murder is unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD Criminal Gang/Homicide Division Detective Kerri Potter at 213-485-4341. -- from the sideLines --By Irving Leemon, Contributing ColumnistIf you thought that last year (2010) had political craziness, wait ‘till you see what this year will bring. I predict that by the time next December roles around you will not only be letting out a sigh of relief, you will also have banged your head against a wall trying to clear your head of ‘political’ nonsense and jingles. This while cursing all politicians for their craziness and not paying attention to the business that they’re supposed to be elected to do.The NO Parties (Republican and Tea Parties) will continue to block everything that President Obama puts forward that helps the people in an effort to discredit the President, and accuse him of doing nothing to help the people.Just because President Obama happens to have two different ethnic backgrounds in his family does not mean that he shouldn’t be President and can’t do a good job. The problem has always been the extremists who can’t abide someone who is “different” from them being a smart and a good man, qualified, and able to do the job he is assigned, or elected to do. I’m very pleased and surprised that the accusation of his having a different way of worshipping God, therefore he cannot be a decent human being seems to have died. While President Obama has his faults, and has made mistakes, he has always had the opposition fighting him tooth and nail when he tries to do something constructive to help this country and its people.Just look at Santorum saying that super PACs were accusing Romney of backing the rights of felons to vote. All the while Santorum is one of the biggest beneficiaries of a super Pac’s backing. Santorum also accused Romney of doing nothing about getting felons the right to vote in his state. Romney replied that the Democratic legislature would not allow him to do so. This is the very same type of blocking that the Republicans have been doing on the national scene!Don’t forget the NO Parties’ promise to do everything they can to make Obama’s presidency a failure, (to me, an undemocratic and unconstitutional move), including their stupid and vicious claim that Obama is not a legally born citizen of this country. All of the talking heads and “reporters” who made that claim should have to publically produce their certified birth certificates. At this time in history is Obama the best man for the presidency? Probably not.BUT, he is by far the best man that is running for the job.Agree? Disagree? Email me at [email protected].

By Jean StrauberFamily Programs at the Autry -- Family programs are in abundance at the Autry museum which is located in Griffith Park (across the parking lot from the LA Zoo).On the first Sunday of the month, you and your family are invited to learn about the diverse Native American cultures. There’s Story Time to hear traditional and contemporary tales, family tours with the Autry docents, the chance to explore objects in the hands-on carts, visit a Living Tradition exhibition which shows visitors the array of Native American baskets found across the country, play a traditional tribal game, and listen to Native American music played on traditional instruments. The third Sunday of the month features a different theme related to the Autry exhibitions and programs. There will be hands-on activities, live music from the Western Music Association, family and docent-guided tours, Gold Rush and Story Time. Children can dress up like a cowboy for a fun photo atop a life-size horse! The first Saturday of each month will feature two

motion pictures for the price of one. The Autry Museum is hosting a Saturday matinee double feature starring Gene Autry. On occasional Saturdays, the Autry will host the film series, “What is a Western?” This series examines the evolution of traditional Western movies against a backdrop of larger historical forces. Jeffrey Richardson, Gamble Curator of Western History, Popular Culture and Firearms, will lead a discussion of the film’s history and its place within the Western genre. OPENING AT THE CTG/MARK TAPER FORUMThe Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy “Clybourne Park” is due to open next Wednesday, January 25 at 8 pm at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum with the entire original Playwrights Horizons’ off-Broadway cast along with original director Pam MacKinnon for the Los Angeles, run which continues through February 26, 2012.In “Clybourne Park,” which also won the Olivier Award for Best New Play,

the playwright imagines the history of one of the more important houses in literary history, both before and after it becomes a focal point in Lorraine Hansberry’s classic “A Raisin in the Sun.” In 1959, the house, which is located in a white neighborhood, is sold to an African-American family (the Younger family in “A Raisin in the Sun”). Then in 2009 after the neighborhood has changed into an African-American community, the

house is sold to a white couple. It is through this saga of property ownership that Norris’ sense of humor dissects race relations and middle class hypocrisies in America. The cast features Crystal A. Dickinson, Brendan Giffin, Damon Gupton, Christina Kirk, Annie Parisse, Jeremy Shamos and Frank Wood. In conjunction with the presentation of “Clybourne Park” at the Taper, CTG is presenting the acclaimed Ebony Repertory Theatre production of “A Raisin in the Sun,” directed by Phylicia Rashad, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, January 19 through February 19, 2012. Tickets and information

are available at the CenterTheatreGroup.org, the Center Theatre Group box office located at the Ahmanson Theatre or call (213) 628-2772.

MORE ABOUT ESOTOURIC TOURSOn Saturday, March 3, 2012 Esotouric tours will present “Hotel Horrors & Main Street Vice,” which will include hotel visits and vintage film clips that bring the lost world of downtown to life. It’s a celebration of the ribald old neighborhood that’s not there anymore, the exquisite historic hotels that still are, and rediscovered scandals. For more info about this tour, visit esotouric.com/main

hotel. On Sunday, March 4 Esotouric and the Los Angeles Visionaires Association, are again partnering with the regional crime lab at Cal State LA to present an afternoon of lectures and tours “Inside the Mind of the Arsonist.” This new program will be led by Ed Nordskog, co-lead investigator on the recent Hollywood arson spree and a fascinating “profiler” of the motives revealed by burned out crime scenes. Seats are $36.50 and space is limited for this fundraiser for the CSULA Criminalistics Department. To reserve your spot go to lavatransforms.org/crimelabmarch4.

-- business of the Week --“Captain Zodiac, Kona, Hawai’i”

Kona Hawaii’s most experienced rafting company, Captain Zodiac Raft Expeditions established in 1974, invites you on an intimate journey to Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii’s

finest marine preserve and the site of Captain Cook’s Monument.Departing from Honokohau Marina located 3 miles north of Kailua-Kona, your captain will entertain you with Hawaiian folklore and Kona history as you travel along the scenic Kona coast. Keep a lookout for Hawaii spinner dolphins, green sea turtles, manta rays, humpback whales (during the winter months) and other marine life that are often encountered on the expedition.Explore lava tubes and sea caves as you travel the inaccessable shores and get the feeling of traveling back in time on this remote coastline. Marvel at the incredible geology as your captains entertain you with their narration and excite you with their skillful driving in rafts just like the Navy seals and the U.S. Coast Guard use.Whale Watching is from our 24 ft Zodiac rafts which give you a “front row seat” and are fast so we get into viewing position quickly. This also means the rafts can take a little splashing during transit so we suggest wearing clothing that can get wet (such as swim suit and cover up, or windbreaker etc) and for camera/video equipment some water proof protection while underway (plastic bags and backpack).

Encino, Ca -- The Encino Huntington Learning Center is proud to support Catholic Schools Week 2012 (Jan. 29 through Feb. 5), a celebration of Catholic schools in America as an important part of U.S. education due to their traditionally high academicstandards and graduation rates. The year 2012 marks the 39th year of Catholic Schools Week, which became an annual event in 1974.“America’s youth are shaped by their education, and Huntington is pleased to join the Catholic schools in the state in giving elementary and secondary students the best education possible,” says Norbert Weinberg of Huntington Learning Center of Encino. “We applaud all schools that uphold high educational standards and integrate values-based teaching into their curricula.”The 2012 theme of Catholic Schools Week is “Catholic Schools: Faith, Academics, Service,” which highlights the three distinctions of Catholic schools. “Huntington Learning Center is a part of many communities across our nation, and we recognize that Catholic schools play an important role in our educational system,” says Weinberg. “We’re proud to partner with Catholic and other schools of excellence to help students reach their potential and give them the foundation to become good citizens.”Huntington supports a variety of national events focused on education, including Read Across America, Math Awareness Month and American Education Week. Travel tips of the week

maGnifiCent arizona roCks - part iiBy Jean Strauber, Travel EditorLast week I began sharing with you my experiences as part of a press tour of Williams, Grand Canyon, Page, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, and Lake Powell. We had walked the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, climbed the “tower” at the West Rim, from which we had an awesome view of the Colorado River, and had great time viewing the herds of deer as we rode in our Harriman car pulled by one of the Grand Canyon Railway’s restored Steam Locomotive. We also had a delicious lunch at the historic El Tovar Hotel, and flew through the Canyon in a helicopter. So many memories!Leaving the Canyon, we were headed for Lake Powell and Antelope Point Marina. But, first there was a “rest stop” at the historic Cameron Trading Post. The Trading Post, established in 1916, has become a showplace for fine Native American and Southwestern art as well as Native American decor including Navajo rugs, Hopi kachinas, and Pueblo pottery. A big surprise is the

suspension bridge spanning the Little Colorado River Gorge behind the Cameron Trading Post’s hotel. Inside the Indian lodge one can grab a snack in the market or sit down to a meal in the restaurant. We made our way to Lake Powell and the Antelope Point Marina for an overnight stay on a Houseboat, which was provided by Antelope Point Marina. Lake Powell was created with the building of the Glen Canyon Dam. Glen Canyon had been home to people for thousands of years, from the prehistoric Indians that roamed and lived in the canyons to river runners and uranium miners that lived, worked or played there until the waters of Lake Powell filled the canyons. As you drive to Lake Powell, you will pass the brilliant Vermillion Cliffs. Our hosts at the Antelope Point Marina pointed out the different size houseboats available for those who want to cruise on Lake Powell. Steve Carothers, the General Manager, had made available three houseboats for our group of travel

writers and the folks from AZ Communications who had organized this tour.I boarded my houseboat, a four-bedroom with a large, U-shaped kitchen, dining area and “great” or family room complete with flat-screen TV on the wall, two bathrooms, and upper deck complete with hot tub. We sailed for about half an hour beyond Wahweap Resort and anchored for the night. The kind folks at Antelope Point Marina prepared a crab boil dinner which was served on tables and chairs that had been set up on the beach. Because the Navajo Generating Station is several miles away, we could se a star-filled sky. Unlike at home when I’m lucky to see the Big Dipper at the Hollywood Bowl, I could now see the band of light made by galaxies, cosmic dust and stars we call the Milky Way, a dark sky that appeared to be gray because of those millions (if not billions) of pin-point lights created by the stars, the flash of an occasional streak made by a meteorite as it burned up in our atmosphere, the zipping across of the man man-made satellites, the constellations and planets

-- most of which I had not seen for many years. I was becoming tired and reboarded our houseboat for a good night’s sleep. Interesting note: All boats must be anchored at night as it is illegal to sail after nightfall. I was a little disappointed that we would not be able to see the “Navajo Bridge” (one of nature’s fabulous arches), which can easily be seen while cruising this part of Lake Powell. After a continental breakfast, we left the houseboat and boarded the jet boat that was going to take us for an hour-long ride through the rock canyons around Lake Powell. What spectacular scenery! Round a curve and you’re exploring another canyon with towering sandstone cliffs -- just awesome! Our next event was going to be a Colorado River Float Trip, which departed from the base of the Glen Canyon Dam on one of California Discovery’s motorized pontoon raft. We put on our life jackets and boarded our raft for the 15-mile trip to the Lees Ferry Landing. Our guide pointed out the wildlife and discussed the geologic formations as we floated down the river. Our box lunch was on a beach (complete with bathrooms) and provided by our hosts. Page Arizona and the Major John Wesley Powell Museum was next on our tour. At the Powell Museum we saw sketches, photos,

and other memorabilia of Powell’s epic Colorado River explorations in 1869 and 1871. Here, too, you’ll find collections of Native American and pioneer artifacts left by the earlier settlers. The Powell Museum also has an Artist of the Month display. On the first weekend in November, Page invites you to attend their Page Lake Powell Hot Air Balloon Regatta, Street Fair and Balloon Glow. At least 50 balloons are featured. After our tour of the Powell Museum we headed for our hotel, the Quality Inn, for the evening, which lies inside the Navajo Nation. We had time to rest and freshen up before having dinner at the La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant and excitedly reminisce about what we had experienced during our long day. Back at the hotel I had a spacious room with flat-screen television, coffee-maker, mini-fridge. Page has a variety of restaurants and reasonable prices. Italian, Ken’s Old West Steakhouse, and the Blue Corn Restaurant offers Native American specialties. You’ll find the world-famous Navajo fry bread available on their menu. Day four began with a guide from Overland Canyon Tours leading us on a walking tour through Antelope Canyon, an example of a “slot” canyon. Until this tour I had not known what a slot canyon

was, though I might have seen or been in one when I had visited Death Valley many years before. For those of you that might not also know, a slot canyon is a narrow canyon that can be deeper that it is wide. Most are formed in sandstone and limestone, and only a very small number of creeks will form slot canyons. They can be found in Australia and the Siq in Petra, Jordan, which was used in the film “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” The largest concentration of slot canyons in the world is found in Arizona’s neighbor, Utah. As we strolled through the Canyon, our guide pointed out the differing formations carved out by wind and water erosion. We also stood in awe at the ever-changing shadows created by the sunlight streaming through the sandstone formations. A safety hint: If rain is predicted, cancel your tour. Distant storms can cause dangerous flash flooding in the slot canyons, and there may not be a safe exit for you. Next week, my journey continues to the Najavo Nation and two of its most beautiful parks -- Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly.

-- GoLf Course of the Week --

“Victoria Lakes, River Ridge Golf Club,

Oxnard, CA”The Victoria Lakes 18 opened on August 22, 2008 and has been very well received. It features bent/poa grass greens and Greg Norman h y b r i d bermuda tees and fairways. All the new holes h a v e their own character but the “ A m e n Corner”, which starts on the par-five, 555 yard #12 (green pictured) and ends on #14 another long par 5 is the most captivating group of holes. The lake on #12 runs the entire right hand length of the fairway before it curls in front of a narrow green that slopes back to the lake. You may go-for-it or lay up, the club (and your score) is in your hands. Number 13 is arguably the most challenging hole in the county. A double dogleg that plays into the wind, it measures 425 yards from the blue tees and is flanked by lakes on both sides. Most tournaments will be won or lost over this stretch. Sure to please everyone, the course plays fast and fun. We invite you to come give it your best shot!

oVer 120 members of ConGress support CaLL for bipartisan seatinG at state of the union

Groundswell of Support for Members to Sit with Opposite PartyWASHINGTON, D.C. -- As of noon on Wednesday, Jan. 18, over 120 members of Congress from both sides of the aisle have agreed to sit in a bipartisan fashion at President Obama’s State of the Union address on Jan. 24. The call for bipartisan seating was initially conceived last year by Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), in conjunction with the think tank Third Way. No Labels has made bipartisan seating at the State of the Union and all joint meetings of Congress one of the 12 proposals in its Make Congress Work! action plan.No Labels has an updated tracker of members who have agreed to sit together at the State of the Union on its website and took out a full-page ad in The New York Times last Friday calling for bipartisan seating.“Last year, when Senator Murkowski and I called on our colleagues to put aside partisanship and sit together during the State of the Union address, the idea resonated with people across the country because Americans are tired of the division in Washington,” Udall said. “The overwhelming support for this idea proves that it’s time to make bipartisan seating a permanent tradition. Let’s show the American people that we all play for the red, white and blue team – not just the red and blue teams.”“By no stretch do Senator Udall and I believe this gesture will put an immediate halt to the argument culture rampant on Capitol Hill, but it is a step in the right direction when it comes to opening up the lines of communications,” Murkowski said. “Republicans and Democrats have legitimate core differences of opinion on many issues, but party lines are not brick walls – there are areas of agreement and possible collaboration between the parties. Opportunities like sitting together at the State of the Union can do nothing but help identify common ground.”“The first step is sitting together, the next is speaking together and the third is working together. It’s a long road back to genuine civility and effectiveness for this Congress, but every journey begins with a single step.” said Third Way President Jon Cowan.Thirteen California Representatives are among the members of Congress who have signed on thus far to sit with members of the opposite party: Representative Ken Calvert (R); Representative Lois Capps (D); Representative Susan Davis (D); Representative Jeff Denham (R); Representative Anna Eshoo (D); Representative John Garamendi (D); Representative Jerry Lewis (R); Representative Nancy Pelosi (D); Representative Laura Richardson (D); Representative Linda Sanchez (D); Representative Loretta Sanchez (D); Representative Aaron Schiff (D); and Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA).No Labels is a group of Republicans, Democrats and Independents who want our government to work again. The group’s dozen proposals to make Congress work mostly don’t require new laws or new spending, and don’t favor any party or particular cause. These are simple, straightforward proposals to break gridlock, promote constructive discussion and reduce polarization in Congress. They can mostly be adopted all at once when the next Congress convenes in January 2013. To learn more about No Labels, please visit www.NoLabels.org.

SACRAMENTO, CA -- Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield (D-San Fernando Valley), Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, issued the following statement in response to Governor Jerry Brown’s State of the State Address.“The governor is proposing the choice of a generation. Californians are tired of living in constant crisis. By laying out an unobstructed path for a vote on the state budget, the governor is empowering Californians to choose how the remnants of our enduring budget gap will be eliminated. I look forward to working with the governor to craft a budget that gives the voters a real choice so that they can be the change they seek in this state. The vote this November is not just about which spending plan protects education and which one doesn’t. It’s about taking pride in California, protecting jobs and our economy, and testing the public’s confidence in their elected officials.”

-- restaurant of the Week --“Bianelli’s Gourmet Pizza & Pasta ”

George Goldstine moved to Kailua-Kona, HI in 1987. He was a triathlete who competed in the Hawaii Ironman in ‘85, ‘93 & ‘94 and the Hawaii Ultraman in ‘86 & ‘93. George worked at the B&L Bike & Sports shop in Kona in ‘88 & ‘89 as a bike mechanic. He and his B&L co-workers competed in bike races on Oahu. Usually, one competes as part of a team just like the Tour de France. They had to come up with a team name and decided that the “B&L Bike Racing Team” was too boring. They wanted to sound like an Italian racing team so they added an “i” to the end of “B&L” ... hence the name “Bianelli” was created. Having managed and operated several pizzerias in Chicago and Arizona, George decided to open a pizzeria in Kona in 1989. After asking friends and family what to name the restaurant the name Bianelli’s was chosen. Not only was the name “Bianelli’s” Italian sounding and marketable George also liked the idea of honoring the B&L Bike & Sports shop (which was owned by his best friend, Nick Rott). Bianelli’s Gourmet Pizza & Pasta was open in Kailua-Kona between 1989-2004. It was consistently voted Best Pizza and Best Italian Restaurant by the West Hawaii Today’s Readers Poll every year the contest was held. Bianelli’s was also the most popular place to eat for triathletes year-round because a) George was a triathlete himself and b) George had the best pizza & pasta in town. Triathletes naturally gravitated to Bianelli’s during Ironman time because George was the Bike Director for the Hawaii Ironman for 9 years. The sport of triathlon, or any sport for that matter, is not for the faint of heart. George was hit by a vehicle on 3 separate occasions while cycling on the roads of Kona. One such incident was almost fatal and left George with a severe head injury and 11 broken bones. He never gave up though and always got back into training shape despite the challenges of rehabilitation. Unfortunately, George’s best friend, Nick Rott (the owner of B&L Bike & Sports shop), was killed while out on a training ride in 1994. A picture of Nick hangs on the wall of the restaurant along with other sports memorabilia and photographs. Incidentally, Nick’s widow sold B&L Bike & Sports to a man from San Diego. There are now two B&L Bike & Sports shops in San Diego - one in Solana Beach and one near the Sports Arena. After a 6-year hiatus, George re-opened Bianelli’s Gourmet Pizza on April 1, 2010, inside Kona Natural Foods. See the West Hawaii Today article at http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/articles/2010/03/29/features/features01.txt -- Bianelli’s re-located to the Keauhou Shopping Center and opened on March 1, 2011. We have a nice dining room with outside seating available and a bar.

-- Quotes of the Week --Quotations about elections:~ “I will feel equality has arrived when we can elect to office women who are as incompetent as some of the men who are already there.” -- Maureen Reagan~ “Each candidate behaved well in the hope of being judged worthy of election. However, this system was disastrous when the city had become corrupt. For then it was not the most virtuous but the most powerful who stood for election, and the weak, even if virtuous, were too frightened to run for office.” -- Niccolo Machiavelli~ “Elections are won by men and women chiefly because most people vote against somebody rather than for somebody.” -- Franklin Pierce Adams~ “What is it we all seek for in an election? To answer its real purposes, you must first posses the means of knowing the fitness of your man; and then you must retain some hold upon him by personal obligation or dependence.” -- Edmund Burke~ “Wars and elections are both too big and too small to matter in the long run. The daily work - that goes on, it adds up.” -- Barbara Kingsolver~ “Democracy is the only system that persists in asking the powers that be whether they are the powers that ought to be.” -- Sydney J. In 1982, Joe and Vinnie Fabrocini opened an Italian restaurant in Tarzana, California and named it FABS in honor of the family. The success of the business helped start a trend of popular casual Italian eateries in Los Angeles. Soon afterwards, the family expanded across the city as two brands: FABS and Fabrocini’s. In 1984, Joe Fabrocini found a great location in Sherman Oaks. With some dedicated work and that “magic” the Fabrocinis bring to their loyal customers, it became FABS.
