Vand Matharamis based on the Raga called Desh(From Hindustani Raga System)
Let us try to understand the Aarohanam & Avarohanam of Desh Raga to proceedfurther
Aarohanam: Sa Re(2) Ma(1) Pa Ni(3) Sa (Ascending Order Sequence)
Avarohanam: Sa Ni(2) Da(2) Pa Ma Ga(3) Re(2) Sa (Descending Order Sequence)
1. Higher Octave Notations: Are indicated by an Apostrophe ( ) next to the note. For Ex:
Sa (Here, the higher octave Sa should be played with more pressure)
2. Dheerga Swaras (Extended Notations): Are indicated by a Comma next to the note. Ex:
Sa, (Sa should be extended to one more note. 2 Commas means, 2 notes)

Ga(3)
Explanation: This is one of the easiest Swara that can be played on Carantic Flute. Open 1st3fingers, but the flute should be still resting on the Index finger surface as shown in the below
picture. Right Hand little finger remains same as Sa and Re.
The Picture above shows how Ga3 is played on Carnatic Flute
Please Note:
The above Fingering Chart/Photographs are with respect to South Indian Carnatic
Fingering Style. Unfortunately Im not trained in Hindustani Style to help you all with 6
Holed Flute fingering chart for DeshRaga.
But, if you know some basics oh Hindustani Music/Bansuri on how to play different
Notations, the Swaras still stand same for both styles of Music.

Please note:
1. I do not claim my tutorial to be the perfect/best/ideal version. I am sure there will be different
versions/opinions. I am just trying to share whatever I have learnt in the past in simplest possible
way. Thanks for your understanding
2. This will be the simplest version without any Gamakas/Anuswaras. I have made it simple and it is
targeted for beginners and not for advanced/Intermediates
Few Tips:
Make sure appropriate Dheergas
given
Sa should be blown with mpressure since it is Higher Octave
Start slowly and maintain a const
speed
Make sure Ni2 and N3 are pla
correctly
If there is no number next to Ni,
by default Ni3
Ni2 will have a number 2 next to Ni
The Ni tapping should be done
using right hand Index finger wplaying the Janti (Ni Ni)
Always remember the song in y
mind during your entire learn
process
Learning becomes more effective
easy
