When Vanida arrived at Purdue for herfreshman year, she immediately beganher journey to be involved on campus.Little did she know how far it wouldtake her... 

Vanida was a "Big Sister" for theorganization by mentoring anelementary school student weekly inclass. She also assisted in planningannual events such as a Christmasparty for littles who had not beenmatched. This organization grew herpassion for working with children, andcemented her Elementary Educationmajor.

Vanida �rst got involvedin Res Life through herhall council, "ShreveClub." She joined duringthe spring semester, andhelped to plan theannual Shreve Semi-Formal. Vanida was ableto develop herorganizational andteamwork skills throughthis �rst introduction toRes Life.

NACURH 2017 Bid Team

Vanida moved into Hillenbrand Hall hersophomore year, and joined the PhoenixClub. She ran, and was elected as Secretary.She began to show her leadership skills asshe took meeting minutes during GeneralAssembly meetings and executive boardmeetings, and helped to plan all-hall eventsfor residents throughout the year. 

As a part of MIX, Vanida used her relationship building skills tofoster connections between domestic and international studentson Purdue's campus before school started. She was a volunteerduring International Parents Week for 2015 and 2016, andmaintained contact with her assigned international studentsthroughout the year. She also became Level 2 certi�ed forIntercultural Communication. 

Vanida joined the NACURH 2017 BidTeam, and immediately became anintegral part of the team. As the Inclusionand Education Chair, she communicatedwith each member of the team to ensurethat our conference would be the mostinclusive, and bene�cial to each student,at each level of their experience. She wasalways the �rst one to volunteer to pickup extra work for the bid, and to helpeveryone with their parts to make surethat it was all done on time. WithoutVanida, our bid for NACURH 2017, wouldnot have been nearly as successful as itwas.

Once Vanida knew that we would be hosting the conference, sheset right to work on meeting with each team member to discusstheir parts, and what inclusion looked like for their job. A goal ofVanida's was to guarantee that delegates would leave Purdue'scampus with a big take away from the conference. She workedcontinually throughout the year with our campus cultural centersand other campus partners to create round-table discussions forthe conference. She also helped bring a new facet to the NACURHconference, which was Purdue's Executive-in-Residence program.She worked to bring six executives from across the country todiscuss leadership and Res Life with the conference delegates. 

Vanida spent many late nights during this year, poring over thedetails of the conference with the Conference Chair, Ben Klinker, inorder to ensure that the conference was a huge success. Duringthe conference, Vanida was a shining star, appearing to beeverywhere at once. She helped delegates, assisted other staff andvolunteers, and could often be found at conference headquartersmaking sure that everything was running smoothly. 

Vanida was elected President ofPhoenix Club for her junior year. Aspresident, she has made the clubone of the most successfulresidence hall councils on campus.There are programs every weekthat allow for residents to learnmore about topics such as diversity,inclusion, and dining etiquette, butalso a lot of programs for residentsto relax, eat good food, and have agreat time where they live! 

Entering her junior year, Vanidaknew it was time to beginleaving her legacy at Purdue.With her long list ofextracurricular activities growingeven longer, she developed timemanagement skills like no othercollege student before her...

Executive-in-Residence Program

For her senior year, Vanida reached for the stars, andtook on four new major leadership positions, along withcontinuing her presidency of Phoenix Club.

Vanida was the Chair for the JSSLR thisyear. Immediately after NACURH wasover, she began planning JSSLR, evengoing as far as to contact the wholeleadership committee over the summer,and brainstorming a theme. The retreatwas a huge success, with over 140student leaders from across campusparticipating, and learning how toimprove and lead their hall councils.Vanida was a hugely motivationalleader, and was able to guide thecommittee to success.

Vanida was also the co-chair for the EMV retreat, having been aparticipant, and facilitator in her two previous years. She helpedsophomores from all majors and backgrounds to learn moreabout diversity, inclusion, and their strengths, all while creating afun and entertaining weekend.

Vanida applied for, and was accepted as the Vice President of theBoilermaker Chapter of NRHH. In her position, she has helped torevitalize NRHH at Purdue by creating a points system toencourage participation, and by mentoring the NRHH president,who is a sophomore. She has also helped to increase the numberof OTMs received each month, and helped members tounderstand the importance of voting on OTMs each and everymonth in as many categories as possible.

Vanida was also a part of an inaugural group of students bybecoming an Executive-in-Residence Ambassador. This elitegroup of students leads executive alumni who come back tocampus to participate in programs and networking events withcurrent UR residents, around campus, and assists them for abouta week.
