There is now a timetable and structure to bringthese new services to Satellite viewers. This meansall Australians will have access to the sameprogramming and quality as the city based digitalservices available today.

In Essence:

This is a significant breakthrough in the provision of digital TV services to all Australians, particularly forthose in remote and regional areas, who for manyyears, have had to put up with less choice thanpeople in the cities.

• The new service will provide digital TV servicesto viewers in eastern Australia who cannotreceive terrestrial digital TV.

The agreement:• Is between the Australian Government and

broadcasters Southern Cross Media and Imparjato establish a joint venture company, ViewerAccess Satellite Television (VAST).

• Ensures access to free-to-air television forviewers in the Remote Central and EasternAustralia licence area.

• It includes those in regional and metropolitanareas who are unable to receive their local TVservices terrestrially will also be able to accessthe new service.

The new VAST service will for the first time makeavailable to all parts of Australia the same numberof channels as are available in the capital cities.

This includes programming in standard definitionfrom the Seven, Nine and Ten networks and their

new digital channels GO!, 7TWO and ONEHD, as wellas all of the ABC and SBS channels, including ABC2,ABC3 and SBS TWO. The VAST service will alsoprovide high definition channels.

The service will be broken into 3 areas:• Northern service will operate in northern time

zone, providing standard definition services forviewers in Queensland and the NorthernTerritory based on Brisbane time.

• Southern Service will operate in Southern timeZone providing standard definition services forviewers in NSW, Victoria, South Australia andTasmania based on Sydney time.

• The high definition services will be provided in a combined zone, covering both the northern andsouthern zones.

• A satellite service for Western Australianviewers, using the same Optus platform, iscurrently under negotiation with the remotearea commercial TV licensees in WesternAustralia (Prime and WIN Television).

Viewers of the satellite service will be able to watchtheir local news services through a dedicated newschannel.

Self-help sites

Self-help sites are small retransmit sites that havebeen set up to retransmit satellite servicesterrestrially in analogue format, many by councilsand local community groups...

• Those viewers in major sites will be have theirsites upgraded to full digital services and willnot need satellite equipment.

• Households currently served by self-helptransmitters that are not being upgraded todigital would be able to receive all of the digitalTV services from the new satellite service.

Time Scale for connection To VAST

The availability of the new satellite services arelinked to the timetable of analogue switch off in the table below. This table is for fixed installations inareas that are not remote.

December 15th 2010 switch on is available to:• Remote Eastern and Central TV1 residents• Existing Out of area viewers who currently

watch Southern Cross and Imparja via satellitewill be able to convert.

• Travellers in the Remote Eastern and Central TV1 Service area

• Registration for ABC / SBS is unrestricted.

Unrestricted registration of ABC and SBS servicesincluding the ABC2 and ABC3 and ABC News24and High definition ABC and SBS services.

To access the VAST service, viewers will need topurchase a new satellite set top box with an access‘smart card’, a satellite dish and cabling. ExistingAurora customers will only need to purchase a settop box at RRP of $279.00 inc GST, provided theirexisting satellite equipment is functioning correctly.

Q - Can I keep my old Aurora receiver connected aswell as the new Vast receiver?

A - We recommend that you do in fact continue touse your existing Aurora system until such time asall new services are there and to your liking.
