CHRIST THE KING HERALD JULY 2019 EDITION

From the Pastor’s Desk

“Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It….”

Grace to You and Peace from God our Heavenly Father, Looking back to my youth, I can remember those words beginning a program. That program was called “Mission Impossible.” The general idea of the program was that there was a team of individuals who were dedicated, and able, to complete “Impossible Missions.” It was a thrilling show, and I enjoyed watching the twists and turns, as the team did things I could never imagine. In the end, the team was always successful, and the show ended with the world at peace, and happiness. Our VBS theme this past month was “Miraculous Mission: Jesus Saves the World.” We began with the story of creation, then moved on to Abraham, and finally spent three days with Jesus, at His birth, His death/resurrection, and His ascension. In each story, the truth of God’s love was proclaimed. It is that love which lead Him to make the promise to Adam and Eve that He would send a deliverer to destroy the power of Satan. It was that same love which lead Him to give Abraham great promises and made Abraham’s descendants the Chosen People. However, the time we see God’s love most prominently displayed is in that time when Jesus was here. From His birth to His death and resurrection, God’s power and love were proclaimed, and shown to all people. Jesus’ words, and His actions were intended to reveal the grace, mercy, and love of the Father for His creation. It truly sounds like an impossible mission, but with God’s power, it is a miraculous mission that is not only possible but guaranteed. The last day, we went up a mountain and said good-bye to Jesus. It was not the end of the story, however. Je-sus left His disciples with a miraculous mission of their own. He sent them out to tell the world about his Fa-ther’s love, and the gift that people receive through Jesus. He sent them to tell everyone. That is impossible. How can we tell everyone? We don’t even know everyone, and don’t have any way to communicate with every-one. Impossible, impossible, impossible. God’s mission to save the world is technically completed, since all the work of redemption has been completed through Jesus. We can rest assured in our salvation. But what about our friends and neighbors? Do they know? Are they aware of God’s miraculous mission? You see, we may think the mission is impossible, but God makes it not only possible, but certain. Jesus said to His disciples, shortly before he went into Heaven, “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and Judea, and in Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth.” There is the key to making the impossible mission, into a miraculous mission. We tell the story of God’s Love to those we know. Starting in our Jerusalem, where we live, the people we know very well. We tell them and show them all that God has done, is doing, and will do for them. Then we move outward to the people we are not so close to but are among on a regular basis; the next circle of acquaintances. Then we go to the people we meet in the streets and the malls, not necessarily people we know, but people who need Jesus. Eventually we can work on to the ends of the Earth. Here is a little secret, if each of us, as well as, each Christian throughout the World is telling the story, and showing God’s love, the ends of the Earth are within reach. The mission is accomplished by a mighty army of individuals who have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb, and are willingly showing that love in their life. I was always amazed at how the team accomplished their “Mission: Impossible” but after seeing them do it, it was no longer a “Mission: Impossible.” With God as our guide and our guard it becomes “Mission: Accom-plished.”
