Defining “Space”• Just about all cabinets have 45U of horizontal mounting space

• But, traditional cabinets cannot fully utilize this space

– Cable management is a major limiting factor

• You can’t fully populate a cabinet with equipment if you can’t realistically fit and manage the necessary cabling

• Even partially populated, managing cable in a traditional cabinet is challenging

– Thermal capacity of traditional cabinets can also limit utilization and density

• Short of expanding your data center and adding more partially utilized cabinets, what is the solution?

Page 3: Versa Pod 2010

Making Space. . . by converting “wasted” vertical space into usable space

• Siemon's VersaPOD cabinet system enables a completely new and efficient approach to your physical data center infrastructure.

• Leverages the “Zero-U” vertical space between bayed cabinets and at the end of row for:

– Cable Management

– Patching

– Power Distribution

• Frees critical horizontal cabinet space for equipment

• Improves thermal efficiency

Page 4: Versa Pod 2010

VersaPOD and the evolution of cable management

• An analogy:

– At first, standard 19” open racks just provided a place to mount equipment

– Over time, the need to manage cords, horizontal cable, etc lead to:

• First, the development of add-on cable management products

• Then, the development of full-featured, integrated cable management racks

• VersaPOD represents a similar, customer-driven evolution from traditional cabinets to a fully-integrated cable management system

Zero-U Vertical Patch Cord and Jumper Management

Vertical Patching Channel (VPC)•Vertical pathway with management “fingers” and cover for cord routing and slack management

– High-capacity

– Easily accessible

– Concealable

• Without consuming or obstructing access to critical horizontal equipment mounting space.

– Eliminates the need for cable management add-ons such as equipment-mounted swing-arms

End-of-Row Cable Managers•Mount vertically between the cabinet’s corner posts and side panels to provide an additional Zero-U cable management zone in end-of-row or stand-alone cabinets.

Page 6: Versa Pod 2010

Zero-U Backbone Cable Management

Dedicated Cabling Pathway• 178mm (7”) of width between bayed cabinets

provides a high-volume, easily accessible cabling pathway

• This space not available in standard cabinet designs, forcing cabling into congested horizontal equipment mounting space

Vertical Cable Management Trays • Installed beside the internal vertical cabling pathway

described above– Secure and route high cable-count channels– Converts internal vertical space into a large-volume

horizontal or backbone cabling management zone– Prevents airflow between adjacent cabinets

VersaPOD Zero-U Cable Management Benefits• Density - Extra vertical space gives you the room to deploy ultra high-density data center

infrastructures without sacrificing manageability of both cabling and equipment and maintaining the overall neatness and aesthetics of the facility

• Scalability - The high capacity of VersaPOD’s Zero-U cable management zones leave significant space to add cabling channels as your needs grow. Preserving horizontal mounting space presents mounting options for new equipment without the need to consume valuable data center floor space with additional cabinets

• Flexibility - The wide variety of cable routing options enables it to efficiently support nearly any data center configuration, giving you the flexibility to design an infrastructure to fit your needs instead of working around the space limitations of traditional cabinets

• Accessibility - With your cabling channels in their own dedicated space between the cabinets, you can perform ongoing moves adds and changes without struggling to work around equipment in the horizontal space or congested space between cabinets. Conversely, with cabling out of the horizontal mounting space you gain unobstructed access to your equipment - less time in the cabinets and more on your strategic goals.

Horizontal Patch Cord and Jumper Management

High Capacity Horizontal Managers2U and 4U horizontal managers are available with 4” and 6” depths to create horizontal management highways across a row of cabinets for cabinet-to-cabinet patching

Recessed RailsProvide up to 191mm (7½”) of unobstructed pathway between equipment ports and cabinet doors for routing patch cords between adjacent cabinets, ensuring cabinet doors remain attached and closed without exceeding cable bend radius requirements.

Zero-U Vertical PatchingVertical Patch Panels - copper and fiber patch panels provide up to 24U of Zero-U vertical patching space between bayed cabinets (12 in front, 12 rear)

– Up to 1152 copper or 1728 fiber ports.

– VP-VPP-6U allows standard rack-mount panels and equipment to be mounted vertically

– Panels slide forward for access to the connections

End-of-Row Vertical Patch Panels - Mount up to 8U of traditional horizontal patch panels in the Zero-U vertical space at the end of each row (4 in front, 4 rear)

Zero-U Vertical Patching

Dual-Hinged Split Doors - Rear split doors can be hinged open in both directions or removed, providing direct and unimpeded access to both the vertical patching zones and horizontal cabinet space

VersaPOD Thermal Capacities

• The Heat/Space Connection

– In addition to a lack of cord, jumper and cable management space, the lack of cooling capacity is a major factor limiting the standard cabinet’s ability to maximize available equipment mounting space

– VersaPOD’s unique design not only provides greater usable physical space, it’s enhanced thermal capacity let’s you use it to add data center equipment without reducing the efficiency of your cooling system

Page 13: Versa Pod 2010

VersaPOD Thermal Management•Proper Cable Management - By moving cables out of the horizontal mounting space and away from equipment cooling features, VersaPOD improves overall airflow and cooling efficiency.

•Vertical Cable Management Trays - Installed between bayed cabinets to isolate and minimize air flow from cabinet to cabinet

•Vertical Ducting Options – Passively directs hot exhaust from equipment into the return air space to increase HVAC efficiency. Can be field-extended to a range of ceiling heights.

•High Air Flow Doors - Front and rear doors enable over 71% airflow to ensure proper hot aisle/cold aisle circulation. Split rear doors require smaller opening clearance, maximizing user access in shallow hot aisles

•Accessories - VersaPOD includes provisions for roof mounted cooling fans and brush guards to further enhance air flow and temperature control
