    OVERVIEWThisdocumentwillguideyouthroughtheinstallationoftheMediaControlServer(MCS),whichisthehostmediacontrolcomponent,andMirage,aclientapplicationyoucanusetocontrolyourmediaplaybackfromtouchscreensandremotePCs.MCSandMirageofferareadytousesolutionforIPcontrolofmediaplaybackonyourMediaCenterPCs.ThecontrolserviceallowsMiragetointeractivelyaccessiTunes,MediaPlayerorWindowsMediaCenterandwilldisplayfeedbackforthoseactions.

    InadditiontousingtheMirageclientapplication,MCSisdesignedforusewithautomationandcontrolsystemssuchasthosemadebyAMX,Crestron,andRTI.AutonomicControlsprovidescontrolmodulesforeachoftheseproducts.ForspecificinformationonhowtosetupMCSforusewiththesesystems,pleaserefertothedocumentationincludedwiththespecificsystemmodule.

    MCSresidesonahostserverrunningiTunes,MicrosoftMediaPlayer,orMicrosoftMediaCenter.Thesoftwareislicensedperhostmachine.

    Beforeyou begin Findasuitableplacetoputyourserverbeforeyouinstallanysoftware.Thelocationyouchoosemusthaveanavailable,wirednetworkconnectioneithertoyourbroadbandrouterortoaswitchthatisconnectedtoyourbroadbandrouter.

    Forthebestexperience,itisrecommendedthatyoupurchasenewhardwarethatyoucandedicatetorunningasamediaserver.WestronglyencourageyoutopurchasefromoneofthemediacenterPCbuildersthatcatertotheCEDIAchannel.

    SYSTEMSETUPYoushouldinstallandconfigureyourhardwareaswellasallofyourprerequisitesoftwarebeforeinstallingMediaControlServer.Forinstance,ifyouplanonusingWindowsMediaPlayerforaudioplayback,makesurethatyoucanplaybackthesamplemusicthatcomespreinstalledwithyouroperatingsystem.Likewise,ifyouchoosetouseiTunes,orWindowsMediaCenter,makesurethattheseapplicationslaunch,andareabletoplaybackmediapriortoinstallingMCS.

    MEDIACONTROLSERVERINSTALLATIONACONSTANTINTERNETCONNECTIONISREQUIREDWHEN

    RUNNINGMCSDURINGTHE14DAYFREETRIAL.

    Yourmediaserverwillneedtobeconnectedtotheinternetduringtheinstallationandregistrationprocess.Additionally,aconstantinternetconnectionisrequiredwhenrunningMCSduringthe14dayfreetrial.Onceyouhaveregisteredyourmediaserver,byenteringyourlicensekey,youmayremoveitfromtheinternet.However,youwillprobablywanttoleaveitconnectedtoyournetworksothatyoucancontrolitviaIP.

    Nowthatyoureready,downloadandsavetheMediaControlServersetupprogramfromtheAutonomicControlsWebsite.Runthesetupprogramandthewizardwilltakeyouthroughtheinstallationprocess.IfyoureupgradingfromanearlierversionofMCStheinstallationwizardwilltakecareofuninstallingthepreviousversionforyou.

    PrerequisitesScreenMediaControlServerrequirestheMicrosoftVisualC++runtimeandMicrosoft.Net2.0.Theinstallationwizardwillinstalltheseforyouifrequired.

    Itispossiblethatyourcomputerwillrequirearebootoncetheprerequisitesareinstalled.Ifthatsthecase,restarttheinstallationwizardafteryourcomputerreboots.

    CompletingInstallationYourmediaserverwillneedtorebootwheninstallationisfinished.Pleaserebootbeforecontinuingtotheconfigurationstep.

    MEDIACONTROLSERVERCONFIGURATION

    Start theconfigurationapplicationTheMCSconfigurationapplicationislocatedonthestartmenuunderAutonomicControls.

    General MCSSettingsThegeneralMCSsettingsarea(outlined)allowsforthefollowingconfiguration:

    LogFilesAllowsyoutoenablelogginganduploadlogfilestotheAutonomicControlsSupportTeam.Rememberthatwhilelogging,MCSwillconsumeharddrivespace,andperformslightlyslower.UploadlogfilesonlyatthedirectiveofAutonomicsupport.

    NetworkcontrolportDefaultsto5004Youshouldonlyneedtochangethissettingifyouarerunninganotherpieceofsoftwarethatisusingport5004.

    SerialControlAllowsyoutoconfigureRS232controlandpassthru.Thisisdetailedbelow.

    SplitintomultiplechannelssetthistotruetoenablePolyTunemultichannelplaybackonthissoundcard.

    Eachsoundcardinyourcomputershouldbeconfiguredforthepropernumberofchannels.

    TheConfigurePlaybackDevicesbuttonatthebottomoftheMediaSourcestabwillopenanAudioDevicesPropertieswindow.TheactualappearanceofthiswindowwillvarydependingonthemanufacturerofthePCsoundcardbeingused.

    TheAdvancedSpeakerSettingswindowwillletyouestablishthetypeofcardwithinadropdownmenu.Thisisanimportantstep.TheoutputchoiceyoumakeneedstomatchthenumberofsourcesyouintendtosetupforPolyTune.

    Forexample,ifyouhavea5.1surroundcardinyourserverPC,butyouintendonusingonlytwoofthethreeavailableoutputs,youshouldselectquadraphonicwithinAdvancedSpeakerSettings.ThiswillestablishtwoindependentstereoaudiostreamsforPolyTune.

    Ifyouintendonusingallthreeoftheavailableaudiooutputsonthe5.1surroundcard,select5.1withintheAdvancedSpeakerSettings.

    Similarly,a7.1surroundcardwouldrepresentfourstereoaudiostreams.

    NotethatmanysurroundaudiocardsrequireanaudiocabletobepluggedintoatleastoneoutputbeforeanyinformationappearsintheMediaSourcestab.ItisrecommendedthatyoupluginyouraudiocablespriortoconfiguringMCS.

    Onceyouhaveselectedtheappropriatenumberofoutputs,returntotheMediaSourcestab.Whenthisiscomplete,twonewcolumnswillappear;Chanandthenumberofchannelsdiscovered.Forexample,ifyouareconfiguringa5.1surroundcard,youwillse(Threefound).Eachchannellistedinthiscolumncanbegivenaspecificname,(i.e.PCMusicAorPCA),tomatchtheappropriateoutput.ThenamesenteredherewillappearasthezonenameswithinZonesmenuinMirage.

    MIRAGEINSTALLATION

    Overview

    OncetheMediaControlServerissetupandrunningonyourMediaserver,youcanusetheMirageclientapplicationtocontrolit.

    YoucanchoosetorunMirageinawebbrowser,oryoucaninstalltheMirageapplicationlocallyonanymachineyouwishtouseasacontrolpoint.

    Tomakethisprocesseasier,theMCSinstallationplacedtwoiconsintheSharedDocumentsfolder(orthePublicfolderonVistamachines)ofthehostPCs.

    RunningMiragein aWeb BrowserTheMCSservicecanhostasessionofMiragedirectlyinyourwebbrowser.ToaccessMiragethisway,youcanbrowsetotheSharedDocuments(orPublic)folderofanyofthehostPCswhichyouinstalledtheserveron.Oncethere,inafoldercalledAutonomicControls,youwillfindashortcuttotheMirageWebinterface.Doubleclickingthisiconwillopentheapplicationinyourbrowserwindow.

    AnalternatemethodofrunningMirageinabrowseristotypetheaddressdirectlyintoInternetExplorer.

    RunningtheMirageClientApplication YoualsohavetheoptionofinstallingMirageasalocalapplication.ThisisthepreferredmethodforrunningMirageonatouchscreendeviceorUMPCbecausetheinstalledclientapplicationiscapableofrunninginfullscreenmode.

    TherearetwowaystoaccesstheMirageinstallationfile.(MirageSetup.exe)

    1. UsingyourLAN,youcanbrowsetotheMirageSetupapplicationintheMCSserversSharedDocuments(orPublic)folder.

    HidingtheMousePointerIfyouarerunningMirageonatouchpaneldisplay,youwillgetabetteruserexperiencebyhidingthemousepointer.Checkthisoptionboxtohidethemousepointer.ThissettingwillbesavedbetweenMiragesessionsonthesamecomputer.

    DisplayingMiragein FullScreen ModeCheckingthisoptionwillcauseMiragetodisplayinfullscreenmode,withoutatitlebarorframe.ThisisusefulwhenusingMirageonadedicatedtouchpaneldisplayorUMPC.ThissettingwillbesavedbetweenMiragesessionsonthesamecomputer.

    Server ConnectionThissectionallowsyoutochangethesourcethatMirageiscontrolling.

    TheSelectbuttonwillappearonlywhenyouarerunningMirageasalocalapplication(notinthebrowser),andwhenyoualreadyhaveaconnectionestablishedwithaMediaControlServer.PressingitwillpresentyouwithalistofMCSsourcesonyourlocalnetworkordomain.

    Youcanthenconnectandcontroladifferentsourcesimplybyselectingitsnameonthelist.

    TheChangebuttonwillalwaysbeavailable,andcanbeusedtoconnecttoMCSbyIPaddressorname(evenamachinerunningataremotelocation).ClickingthebuttonwillpresentaninputscreenwhichyoucanusetospecifytheIPaddressormachinenameoftheservertowhichyouwouldliketoconnect.

    Ifyouhavechangedtheserverscontrolport(seeGeneralMCSSettingsonpage7),youcanspecifytheportbytypingtheserverIPaddressornameandthentheport,separatedbyasinglespace.i.e.LivingRoom50010or192.168.1.155010.

    Exit IfyouarerunningMirageasalocalclient(notinawebbrowser),theExitbuttonwillbeavailable,andyoucanuseittoclosetheMirageapplication.

    USINGMIRAGEOPERATION

    Now Playing Screen ThenowplayingscreenmaybeaccessedbypressingthePlayingbuttonalongthetopofthescreen,orbytouchingtheNowPlayingarticononthelowerleftofmostofMiragesotherscreens.TheNowPlayingscreenwillalsoopenafterafewminutesofinactivity.

    WhenintheNowPlayingscreen,acontrolstripwithtransportcontrolswillopenonthebottomofthescreen.IfamusicalbumormovieisplayingontheNowPlayingscreen,touchingthecoverartwillopenthatitemsdetailpage.

    QueueScreenTouchingorclickingontheQueuebuttonwillopentheQueueScreen.Thisbuttonisonlyavailablewhenplayingbackmusic.Itwillopenalistofmusicwhichisqueuedupbythesource.

    Touchinganyoftheitemsinthequeuewillcauseplaybacktoimmediatelyjumptothatitem.

    Touchingthedeletebutton willcausetheselecteditemtoberemovedfromthemediaqueue.Itdoesnotdeletethemediafromyourcomputer.

    ClearQueueThisbuttonwillcleartheentiremediaqueue.
