Welcome to v2.18 of RM Unify V2.18 of RM Unify is here. We’ve been continuing to trial our ‘MIS sync’ feature with a number of schools across England and Wales this month, and we plan to release this for all Premium subscription schools to access in the very near future. An announcement on that will be made soon. This month we’re delighted to announce an improvement to the way in which RM Unify can further support the use of Office 365 in schools. It will specifically benefit those people who use Link Tiles on their Launch Pad to access specific content within Office 365 such as a popular file, SharePoint page or OneDrive folder. Previously, this type of web link would have required an individual to login to RM Unify each time they want to access specific content from their Launch Pad. Now, the experience can be made seamless; no additional login is required each time. This will be made available to all RM Unify Premium Schools, including Glow. Details on this feature are outlined below in ‘Release Headlines’. Secondly this month, you may also notice our colour scheme has changed slightly. Recently we’ve been working hard towards achieving an accessibility standard for RM Unify: WCAG 2.0. This accreditation will mean that RM Unify meets accepted standards for web content accessibility, meaning it can be used by those with disabilities such as visual impairment. One of the required improvements for the standard was a colour scheme change - you may have noticed our command buttons and some text within RM Unify has changed to a darker blue colour. For more information on RM Unify accessibility, go to: www.rmunify.com/SecondaryPages/Accessibility (when logged in)

Release Headlines

1. Create Link Tiles for ‘Deep Links’ into Office 365 Page 2 to 4 ‘Deep Links’ are files/sites/folders within Office 365 which you have created shortcut links to. This new feature benefits users wishing to access specific content within Office 365 from their RM Unify Launch Pad using Link Tiles. If you have multiple Office 365 content Link Tiles on your Launch Pad, you can easily navigate between them without logging in each time.

1. Create Link Tiles for ‘Deep Links’ into Office 365 ‘Deep Links’ are files/sites/folders within Microsoft Office 365 that someone has created a shortcut to. RM Unify already allows users to create Link Tiles for their frequently accessed websites. It’s possible to setup a web link and create a bespoke image for the Tile before adding it to your Launch Pad. Link Tiles can be shared on multiple Launch Pads (if created by an admin user), or independently on a user’s ‘My Launch Pad’. The new ‘Deep Links’ feature extends the Link Tile creation task to include web links within Office 365, without a user needing to login again when they click the Link Tile. RM Unify authenticates (logs you in) to Office 365 web apps when they are accessed via the RM Unify Launch Pad. Examples include: Outlook, SharePoint and OneDrive. ‘Deep Links’ take you to specific locations within those apps, for example a document or folder. How to setup a ‘Deep Link’ Link Tile on your RM Unify Launch Pad

1. Follow the existing process for creating a Link Tile in RM Unify.

2. Locate the web link for the content you wish to access from your Link Tile. Copy the web address from your browser and paste it into the ‘Address (URL)’ field in the RM Unify Link Tile pop-up window.

3. RM Unify will recognise this as an Office 365 link and create a ‘smart link’ to enable the

single sign-on. This process is displayed in the screen shot below.

Fig 1.1: RM Unify will recognise your Office 365 link and create a ‘smart link for you to use’. You may upload your own image for the Link Tile, or allow RM Unify to auto-create a default image (as shown above).

Click OK, and your smart link will be created. How could you use this new feature? If you regularly use Office 365 web applications such as SharePoint, One Drive or Outlook, then you can use this feature to create a Launch Pad of Link Tiles to your favourite resources, which allows you to easily navigate between documents, folders and sites. If you share these Links on Shared Launch Pads, then this makes it easy for multiple people to access the same content from a central place. This could be: a staff policy, a students’ scheme of work or maybe even Governor minutes.
