Vertical bifacial Agro-PV systems in Europe

3

Vertical Agro-PV – why vertical?

4

Reasons for vertical bifacial AgroPV

5

Agriculture: Potential of vertical Agro-PV systems

6

Agriculture: Possible applications for crop production with vertical Agro-PV

The following types of crop production are

possible, among others

• grassland

• potatoes

• different types of beet

• carrots

• low-growing cereals and rice (up to app.

1m)

7

Ecology: Possible reduction of wind erosion

• The north-south arrangement of the PV modules

counteracts east- and west-winds

• Erosion more unlikely in areas with mainly east- or

west- winds (e.g. northern Germany, also parts of

India)

• Potentially also lower evaporation due to reduced

wind exposition

East

West

8

Ecology: Possible support of bio-diversity

Compatibility of sustainable electricity production and

diverse flora:

• The creation of flower strips under the module rows

(between agricultural used strips) supports biological

diversity in the agricultural landscape

• Including year-round protection against erosion and the

creation of habitats for fauna

9

Grid Integration: Vertical bificial Agro-PV system support PV grid integration by its electricity production profile

Conventional flat-mounted PV systems with

south orientation:Vertical PV systems with east-west orientation:

• Beneficial production profile with peak production in the morning and in the evening hours

➢ Mapping of energy supply and demand more efficient than storage

➢ Production profile of N2S vertical bifacial Agro-PV-System nearer to electricity demand

10

Grid Integration: Combination of vertical bifacial PV system and conventional PV ensures stable electricitysupply

Combination of east-west-oriented vertical bifacial Agro-PV and

conventional south-oriented PV supports the grid integration by a

broad and stable electricity

Operation and Maintenance: Potentially less module cleaning

Less necessity of module cleaning expected:

• Vertical mounting is expected to reduce the

sedimentation of dust

• Better self-cleaning by rain

• Potential reduction in labor and water demand

12

Variant: Next2Sun vertical Agro-PV product range also includes the bifacial solar fence

Additional advantage:

• Shadow for livestock

Dual Use of Solar Fence:

• Fencing

• Electricity production
