VESSEL TRAFFIC CONTROLLERPort Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking an energetic individual to join our team!This position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining all records on vessel movements inthe harbor.

Compiles and reports data regardingvessels, cargo, damages, personnel andfacility utilizationProvides clear communication bytelephone, 2-way radio, email and/or inperson, and notifies of vessel arrivals fromthe US Coast Guard to the ship agentsMonitors VTIS systems, CCTV monitorsand coordinates with appropriate vesselagents, towing companies, line handlers,pilots association, PCCA police and othermaritime personnel for all vesselmovements within PCCA jurisdictionCoordinates all berth assignments, andcoordinates with stevedores, railroads,agents and other maritime personnel tofacilitate the timely and efficient movementof cargoCommunicates as required with CoastGuard on vessel traffic and PCCAoperationsProvides communication with PCCA users,Coast Guard, C.C. Oil Spill Association,PCCA Police, Refinery Terminal FireCompany and other agencies as requiredduring emergency situationsMaintains and records all incidents in FCCradio log and provides communication andcoordination with all vessels regardingnavigation assistance and trafficmovements, harbor locations, weatherchanges, harbor or channel emergencies,channel closures, and any vesselrequirementsMakes independent decisions regardingvessel movement and berth assignmentsas required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Compiles and reports all informationrequired for billing; enters required datadaily into PCCA computer systemconcerning billing and vessel activity;edits reports, verifies data for accuracyProvides proper information to all PCCAusers in a courteous manner andperforms functions in an accurate andprofessional manner maintaining anacceptable level of competence,composure and professionalismMonitors vessel specifications at variouslocations in ship channel, cargo loadings,transfers and discharges for compliancewith PCCA rules and regulationsProvides a written and or verbal rundownof all events, ETAs, ETDs, shifts, (eventswill be rig movements, channel closures,etc.) creating a smooth transition from oneshift to the nextAdheres to all PCCA policies, promotesand adheres to SEAPORT values andmaintains good employee relations whereteamwork prevailsWorks 12 hour rotating shift, 4 days on,4days off including nights, weekends andholidays; must be flexible in responding towork demands and in working additionalshifts as neededTier 1 status designationCPR certified or ability to become CPRcertified within the first year ofemployment

CANDIDATE PROFILEThe preferred candidate for this position should be a professional and reliable individual with thefortitude to work in demanding environment and to communicate effectively with PCCAstakeholders and staff. The successful candidate must be customer service oriented with theability to fit well within an energetic and dedicated team. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALSHigh School diploma or GED equivalentAbility to obtain and maintain aTransportation Worker IdentificationCredential (TWIC) during course ofemploymentValid driver’s license

EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGEExperience as radio operator or in VesselTraffic Service (VTS) operationspreferred; experience and knowledge ofport operations to include approaches,channel and port facilities also preferredExperience with the use of computerterminals and online reference resourcespreferredEffective collaboration and problem-solving skills with use of interpersonal andpublic communications techniquesMinimum two years’ experience in thetype of administrative duties outlinedabove or acceptable equivalentexperience

Ability to perform essential job functions,including but not limited to frequentstanding, walking, sitting, speaking orhearing, typing and occasional reaching,stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or movingup to 20 pounds with or withoutreasonable accommodationAbility to hear 20dB in each ear and abilityto undergo an audiometric test atthresholds between 500 and 3,000 Hz inboth earsAbility to work in a general officeenvironmentAbility to operate standard officeequipment and drive a lightweighthighway vehicle to fulfill positionobjectivesAbility to work the requisite hours to fulfillposition objectives, including eveningsand/or weekends, as needed
