    VIBRATION ASSESSMENT QUIZ

SHOULD I ATTEND THE ENTRY LEVEL OR

    ANALYSIS I SEMINAR?

Should I attend the Entry Level or Analysis Iseminar?, Am I ready for Analysis I? are

common questions for those beginning a newcareer in vibration analysis.

Analysis I assumes and builds on the student

having a basic understanding of vibrationmeasurement and analysis.

The following questions are taken from theEntry Level training manual and are designed

to help one make the decision.

It is recommended that you start with the Entry Level seminar if you

cannot fully answer 80% of the following questions with confidence:

What are, and, can I explain each of the 5 steps in most successful PdMprograms?

Can I explain each of the 3 basic characteristics measured in vibration?

Can I explain the effect that decreasing dynamic force has on amplitude

    response?

Can I explain the period of vibration?

Can I explain the difference between a Natural Frequency and a Resonance?

Can I explain the difference between a Resonance and a Critical Speed?

What units are used to express amplitude and why use one over another?

Do I understand what Phase is and when to use it?

Can I find and explain each of the basic menu selections in my analyzer?

Can I explain Transducer Sensitivity and Frequency Range?

What is a low frequency accelerometer? When do I use it? How do I tell myinstrument which accelerometer is connected?

Can I explain why and when to turn off Sensor Power?

Do I know when to use Auto Range and why?

Does a Shear Mode Accelerometer have advantages over Compression Mode?If so, what are they?

Can I explain the common Average Types?

    What are Routes?

Can I explain why Sidebands appear in a spectrum?

Can I explain how Sidebands help the analyst?

Can I explain how a Beat differs from classic Amplitude Modulation?

Am I familiar with common terms such as Sub-synchronous, Fundamental,

    Harmonic?

Can I explain why most rolling element fault frequencies are Non-

    synchronous?

Can I explain what indicates the severity of a gear problem?

Can I explain why high amplitude at 2X Line frequency indicates an eccentricrotor in an AC induction motor?

What is the difference between Route Mode and Analysis Mode?

Can I explain how Dynamic Range affects the reading?
