Vic Pits has a long history in Victoria and New South Wales, with 25 years experience in the Civil Construction Industry. Born from an earthmoving background and strong family involvement Vic Pits now represents the achievements of the past, and presents the innovations for the future.

During the journey Vic Pits and its staff have been a leading Company in the development of the Custom Pre-Cast Pit market which has now become a standard requirement in construction. The pathway to market acceptance has been hard fought over the years, with the change in construction attitudes as one of the keys to the continuing success of Vic Pits. This attitude change was brought about by the development of Vic Pits as a partner Company to the many constructors in the industry.

Strong product and construction knowledge, exceptional customer service, quality products and the determination to succeed has ensured that Vic Pits remain a strong market leader. Vic Pits have developed as a stable constant in the civil construction industry that provides their Clients with the support to build their own success in projects in a tough industry. Companies with strong products and intellect do not stay stagnant and the requirement for Vic Pits to expand seriously into other States was encouraged and supported by many of the major Constructors.  Aus Pits was formed as direct link from Vic Pits and an operation specifically targeting Major Construction Projects was formed in Murwillumbah NSW, as well as Penrith in Western Sydney to provide products to the NSW and QLD markets.

The success of the business unit has been outstanding with new markets continuing to open and the product range now expanding to provide a total pit package.

Aus Pits are now also seen as a market leader in the provision of Custom Pre-Cast in both of these states.

Vic Pits believe Project Management is the key area in delivering a successful project to the Client.

Vic Pits provide a Project Advisor who has a proactive role in each Project. This role will be critical to the smooth flow of supply of products and to ensure that project information is controlled.

A Project Advisor will: Continually monitor the design plans/revisions direct with Project Designers. Continually monitor any design/construct issues that arise on site and have input

into alternative structures. Review, implement and maintain quality procedures to ensure compliance with the

contract Specifications. Be on site whenever required, depending on Project demands. Develop an information stream with Site Engineers, Managers, Supervisors and the

Project Designers. Develop individual ‘shop drawings’ directly from the Construction Drawings

provided, for the purpose of approval and manufacture. Co-ordinate production and supply requirements with our Production Managers and

set daily pouring schedules to suit your construction program

Delivery

Vic Pits provide all deliveries to site FREE ON TRUCK.

Delivery is coordinated to the construction program. A Vic Pits Project Advisor will become the link between the transport and the Site

Foremen for all deliveries. Delivery will occur on flat tray trucks to be unloaded by others. In most cases delivery will be affected by full loads but Vic Pits recognises that there

is at some times a requirement for an emergency delivery.

Emergency Deliveries

Vic Pits understand the critical time lines that happen on site and the costs involved. Provisions can be made to provide pits in lots of “ones and twos” if this is required. The provisions of these will be coordinated by the Vic Pits Project Advisor.

To understand time lines in deliveries of the pits please refer to the following:

Generally large electrical pits are approx 1- 2 weeks from time of order. This to allow for the manufacture and curing of the larger products

Emergency deliveries for areas subject to change can be brought forward e.g. area change, design change etc. 3-5 days.

On Average turnaround time for regular pits is 7 working days.

IMPORTANT: The impact of the emergency deliveries will be diminished by the effect of the on site Vic Pits Project Advisor who will flag the changes before they become urgent.

Refer to our website www.vicpits.com.au for employee profiles.

LIFTING - SAFE WORKING PROCEDURE

Page 15: Vic Pits has a long history in Victoria and New South ... …  · Web viewPits & Systems Custom . stormwater ... Continually monitor the design plans/revisions direct with Project

ON LIFTING PITS  Situation: Where pits are to be lifted into the air for the purpose of transport, loading, unloading and installation, including where pits have been placed together on a truck with the Lifting Holes sitting flush together. This occurs when load space is to be maximised. The following steps should apply.   1. Pins provided by Vic Pits are rated at 3.08 tonne SWL and are suitable for a lift when only half the pin length is penetrating the Lifting Hole (see Photo 1 below). 2. An approved “spreader bar” (see Photo 2 below) should be used to provide a direct lift on the Lifting Pins. If spreader is not used then no chains should develop greater than a 60º (degree) angle as stated in the current “Dogman and Slinging Guides”. This stops stress on the pit walls, but more importantly, allows the pits to be easily handled and placed. Vic Pits Lifting Pins or designed equivalent should be used only. 3.Where required, pins can be placed into the lift holes from the inside of the pit walls. Ensure that the chains are fitted to the spreader bar to allow for a straight lift.Where the pits have been placed on a truck with the Lifting Holes sitting flush together, the following is to occur:

The pins can be placed in the Lifting Holes partially to allow the pit to be lifted approximately100mm above the tray of the truck.

While this lift is in process the pit can be turned slowly to allow access ready for the pins to be pushed completely through the Lift Hole penetration.

The pit can then be placed slowly down on the tray of the truck. The lift pins can then be pushed through the wall of the pit to allow the full

length of the pin to protrude through the pit wall. The pit then can be lifted from the truck tray by the standard safety

procedures

Photo 1 – Lifting Hole Photo 2 – Spreader Bar

SAFE WORKING PROCEDURE ON INSTALLATION OF PITSAll Vic Pits should be installed in accordance with Vic Pit Specification 7/94 – Installation of Pits (see over page)

Specification No. 7/94   Installation of Pits

1. Vic Pits pre-cast pits are custom manufactured in accordance with our own manufacturing

Page 16: Vic Pits has a long history in Victoria and New South ... …  · Web viewPits & Systems Custom . stormwater ... Continually monitor the design plans/revisions direct with Project

Specifications and are designed to be placed to the relevant levels particular to each pit.  All necessary preparation, care and measurements should be taken before installation.  2. Excavation should provide a clearance from all external faces of the pit, where possible of not

less than 400mm.  3. Bedding material and compaction should comply to Vic Roads Specifications, in particular

Section 701 and Section 705 or to the particular standard set down by the relevant Authority or their Appointed Officer.

Special consideration should be given to particular situations where unusual ground conditions may apply. In these cases, the Project Engineer should be consulted for bedding material and compaction requirements.

General acceptance is an approved bedding material compacted to a thickness of not less than 80mm on an earth foundation or 150mm on a rock foundation.

When placing, leveling and compacting bedding material to the correct level, the invert level of the pipe, the pipe wall thickness and the base thickness of the pit are to be taken into account.

  4. Pits should only be lifted by Vic Pits lifting pins where lifting holes are used or approved lifting

clutches when proprietary type anchors are pre-cast into the pit walls or base.  Lifting holes or points marked “LIFT” are provided and pits should only be lifted by these points

with approved lifting apparatus. Lifting of pits shall be in accordance with Vic Pits Lifting Procedures.

5. Penetrations are custom cast into the pits walls and are provided to allow easy placement of pipes into the pit walls at the required invert levels.

Pipe installation into pits requires the following steps to be taken:a) The pipe is to be placed into the relevant penetration in the pit wall and cut back to be

finished flush with the internal wall of the pit. b) The pipe should then be sealed in with an approved cement mix. It may be necessary to

render around the pipe on the inside of the pit in order to achieve a quality flush finish with the pit wall.

In areas of harsh soil conditions, special grouting materials may be specified by the Works Supervisor.

 6. If required by the relevant Authority, internal benching should be placed. Internal benching materials and dimensional requirements should be in accordance with the relevant Authority Specifications.

  7. If a structure is manufactured in multiple segments due to size and/or depth, or when a cover

slab is required to be placed onto the top of a pit structure, it is necessary to seal the segments together to prevent water leakage and ingress. In these cases, the following steps should be undertaken:

  a) An approved non-shrink grout or mastic type product should be used to seal the segments together.

  b) The product used should be applied in accordance with the product manufacturer’s requirements and should be applied to the pit segment that is already installed. Ensure that no gaps are left in the grout or mastic placement.

  c) Place the second segment on top of the installed segment. The weight of the units will ensure that a quality bond is achieved.

  d) The segments should be left undisturbed until the period of curing is completed in accordance with the grout or mastic product manufacturer’s recommendations.

8. Backfill around the pits should be carried out to the Specifications set down by the relevant

Authority. General acceptance is backfill material free from perishable material and lumps placed in layers not exceeding 300mm and compacted to the requirements of the relevant authorities.
