Objective: be able to understand the Vietnam war up

through LBJ’s announcement not to run both its causes and

what happens during the war both at home and abroad

INTRO TO WARThe country of Vietnam was originally a

colony of the French, but after WW2 the

country tried to gain independence.

Split along the 17th parallel with the

Geneva treaty of 1954

Tensions between North and south.

IN COMES JFK AND BEGINNING LBJ

JFK has to deal with communism around

the world.

Aid the south and Diem against

communism.

Diem regime ousted by S.V military

Kennedy wants to pull out troops

LBJ we will continue our support to

Vietnam

If one nation falls to communism so will the

rest

The key to the entirety of south East Asia is

Vietnam, if it falls so will all of the others.

Same thing in the Middle east and the rest

of the world
