Industry News
According to a new report, “World Animal Feed Additives
Market Opportunities and Forecast, 2014-2021” from Allied
Market Research, the world animal feed additives market
was evaluated at $18.0 billion in 2014 and is estimated
to garner $27.9 billion by 2021, registering a CAGR of 6.5
percent over the forecast period 2015-21. Increasing global
meat consumption, industrialization of meat products, and
growing awareness of quality of dairy and meat products
consumed are boosting the feed additives market’s
growth. Increasing raw material costs may restrict the
market growth as the majority of additives such as feed
acids, antioxidants and vitamins are extracted from natural
sources encompassing seeds, tree barks, leaves, etc.
The world animal feed additives market is segmented based
on types, livestock and geography. The type segment is
further bifurcated into amino acids, feed enzymes, vitamins,
minerals, feed acidifiers, antioxidants and binders. The
demand for amino acids is increasing owing to its extensive
application in feed additives.
Based on livestock, the market is segmented into swine,
poultry, cattle, aquatic animals and others. In 2014,
poultry emerged as a leading livestock segment for the
consumption of feed additives, followed by swine and
cattle owing to the growing demand for poultry meat,
consumer taste preferences and rising disposable incomes
in developing economies, mainly in China and India.
Animal Feed Additives Market to Hit $27.9 Billion by 2021
Geographically, the world animal feed additives market is segmented into
North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and LAMEA. Asia-Pacific would provide
lucrative growth opportunities until 2021, owing to considerable increase
in feed production and rising awareness among the consumers regarding
the quality of meat, dairy and related products in China and India.
Animal nutrition chemicals market
A new report from Allied Market Research, “World Animal Nutrition
Chemicals Market - Opportunities and Forecasts, 2014-2022” says the
growth of the market has been driven by the factors such as increasing
investment by the wide range of manufacturers along the entire value
chain, growing consumer demand for performance and concerns about
environment for a sustainable future. Moreover, increased demand for
healthy and safe pet food and increased awareness of the people who
own pets, about the health of their pets has also contributed to the growth
of the market. The major limiting factor that is hampering the growth of
the market is the high price of the chemicals. Growing demand for eco-
friendly solutions and emerging bio-chemicals industry that would help to
develop bio-based chemicals are expected to create lot of opportunities
to the growth of the market.

the projection period.
The Lactobacilli bacteria segment accounted
for the largest share and was followed by
theBifidobacteria segment in 2015. The
growth of Lactobacilli segment was mainly
due to its wide availability and wide range of
applications in animal health and nutrition.
All applications considered for the probiotics
in animal feed products are those that are
commercially available and traded. In the
same year, Asia-Pacific accounted for the
largest share in the bacteria segment. Europe
contributed the second-largest share.
The growth of probiotics in animal feed
market is directly linked to the increasing
demand for qual i t y animal produc ts.
Probiotics-based feed additives play a
critical role in providing balanced nutrition
to livestock, as well as improving feed
digestibility, so as to reduce the overall feed
requirements, thus saving costs. Asia-Pacific
was the largest market for probiotics in
animal feed and accounted for the maximum
share in 2015.
Pr o b i o t i c s h ave t r e m e n d o u s m a r k e t
opportunities in the animal feed industry
around the world. The Asia-Pacific animal

USDA Forecasts of World Agricultural Production for 2016/17
The August-Version of World Agricultural Production
prepared by The FAS Inter nat ional Produc t ion
Assessment Division of USDA has been released.
Russia Wheat: Estimated Production Shatters Previous
Record
Russia wheat production for 2016/17 is estimated at a
record 72.0 million metric tons (mmt), up 7.0 mmt from
last month and up 11.0 mmt from last year. The revised
estimate also surpasses the previous record of 63.7
million tons harvested in 2008. The increase is based on
official reports of record winter wheat yields in western
Russia, and high potential yields for spring
wheat in the Volga, Siberian, and Ural Districts.
The estimated harvested area is increased
slightly, from 26.0 to 26.6 million hectares
(mha), based on final sown-area data from
Rosstat, the state statistical agency. All USDA
crop production estimates for Russia exclude
estimated output from Crimea. The cumulative
bunker yield, prior to cleaning and drying, is
reported at 3.89 tons per hectare, up 15 percent
from the same date last year and 8 percent
above 2014, when final winter wheat yield
reached a record level. Winter wheat accounts
for about 70 percent of Russia’s total wheat
output.
The spring wheat crop has benefited from generally
favorable conditions throughout the growing season
with the exception of localized heat and dryness in
parts of the Volga District. According to satellite-derived
vegetative-index data (the normalized difference
vegetative index, or NDVI), the potential yield for spring
wheat is higher than last year in almost every major
production district.
Argentina Corn: Forecast Area Up Nearly 30 Percent from Last Year
USDA forecasts Argentine corn production for 2016/17 at 36.5
million metric tons, up 7 percent from last month and up 30 percent
from last year. Area is estimated at 4.5 million hectares, up 7 percent
from last month and up 29 percent from last year. Yield is forecast
at 8.11 tons per hectare. Incentives for corn production have
increased substantially from last year: the government of Argentina
has reformed export taxes, the peso devaluation has improved
export potential, and lower prices for improved seed, fertilizer, and
pesticides have improved profitability. In addition, persistent rain
curtailed wheat planting, allowing more area for corn.
Canada Rapeseed: Yields Approaching Record Levels
USDA estimates 2016/17 Canada rapeseed production at 17.6
million metric tons, up 7.3 percent from last month and up 2.3
percent from 2015/16. Area harvested is estimated at 8.0 million
hectares, unchanged last month but down slightly from 2015/16.
USDA estimates rapeseed yield at 2.2 tons per hectare, up 7.3 from
last month and up 3.7 percent from 2015/16.
July soil moisture across the western prairies continues to be
ideal with over 90 percent of rapeseed rated in good to excellent
condition in Saskatchewan and over 83 percent in Alberta
according to provincial reports. Satellite-derived data (the
normalized difference vegetation index, or NDVI) show crop vigor
higher than in 2013, a year of record yields for rapeseed.

Innovation and Intelligence Lead the Future——Latest Products Meet the Audience at VIV China 2016
In response to challenges in environmental protection and climate
change, the lineup of FAMSUN’s products also features its power
recovery system for feed plants. Based on the recycling of the energy
in a feed plant, the system reuses the power from the cooler, dryer,
the extruder, etc. and applies the power after treatment to the power
consuming dryer. The energy recovery system not only lowers the
temperature in the workshop, improves the operating environment
of the workers but also reduces the gas emission of the plant, thus
cutting the costs of the energy utilization.

Latest High-Performance Elevator by FAMSUN Research Institute
Background
With the intensifying competitions in the feed industry, it is imperative that new effective equipment based on high performance
be developed to win over customers. As an essential component, the bucket elevator is widely used in feed plants and it is of great
significance to improve its performance to cut costs.
With the support of American Research Institute, FAMSUN now comes up with an updated version of elevator.
Advantages
1. Output doubled
Compared with the former version, and quipped with its new bucket the filling efficiency of which is greatly improved, the new elevator
now boasts higher output and easier cross-level replacement, significantly benefiting processing set-up. The equipment which is much
smaller and lighter with less supporting materials can thus create more values for our customers. Check out the following table for the
types of the elevator and their coefficients:
2. Lower power consumption
Power consumption of the new elevator is significantly reduced by slowing the hoisting speed and reducing the amount of recycled
material. Compared with the old machine, the new elevator has a smaller motor equipped:
Lower linear velocity is also good for the reduction of the amount of the broken material, eventually improving the quality of the product. Besides,
in the case of powder material, lower linear velocity can also decrease the impact of airflow in the unloading process, bringing the rate of recycled
material from 10%-20% of the old machine to the current level below 5%, ensuring the yield of the equipment while saving power and lowering
the operation costs for the customer.
3. The service life of the bucket more than tripled
The existing buckets in use have a service life of about two years, but the service life of the new buckets, with their enhanced strength and
abrasion resistance, can last from five to ten years:
Satisfactory service life means less downtime for maintenance, thus cutting maintenance and repair costs. More importantly, enhanced reliability
of the machine assures the customer. In addition, lower linear velocity also helps with reducing the wear and tear of the machine so that the
service life of the components of the machine can last longer.

1. Introduction
The vacuum liquid coater is a post-coating equipment for the addition
of more liquid to meet the requirement of special aquatic feed and pet
food production. It is generally believed that a coater is needed when the
proportion of liquid to be added to the feed reaches a level more than 6%. For
common coaters, the addition of liquid ranging from 8%-10% is expected to
achieve satisfactory results.
Nowadays, the liquid added can vary among a wide spectrum because of the
flexibility of production and the diversity of the formulas. The fact calls for the
need for external coating equipment and vacuum coaters and the consequent
capitalized cost would be immense. The PTZL Series vacuum coater developed
by FAMSUN in 2014 surmounts the technical barrier by solving the issue
of uneven coating. The addition of liquid of the PTZL Series vacuum coater
can vary from high, medium and low, while it can also deliver satisfactory
coating with a minimum liquid addition around 2%. The coater can serve as a
replacement for traditional outside- roller coating.
2. Application
The PTZL Series vacuum coater which was installed and commissioned in
HuzhouHaihuang Biotechnology Co., Ltd. in July, 2015; the equipment was put
to operation the same year. ,See the picture on the right.,
With the help of the vacuum system of the machine, the oil sprayed by the
coater can infiltrate through the pellets, reducing the amount of oil floating
at the surface. In November, 2015, we invited a professional inspection
organization—National Fishery Machinery and Equipment Quality Supervision
and Inspection Center for a field inspection of our equipment. The results
showed that all the specifications of the PTZL3000 vacuum coater meet the
manufacturer’s standards. The details go as follows.
The Application of the FAMSUN PTZL Series Vacuum Coater
Dong Biao
The coater has been in stable operation for more than half a year so
far without running into malfunction, which is highly appreciated by

organized by Yangzhou Science and Technology Bureau, the PTZL
series vacuum coater with its superb performance, reliability and
stability, won the unanimous recognition of the experts and passed
the appraisal of the certifying commission which agreed on the fact
that the technological achievement of the product has reached an
international advanced level.
So far, Hubei Laogui Fishing Bait Co., Ltd., Guangdong Ramical and
Fujian Haima Feed Co., Ltd. have placed their orders for the coater
with quite a number of other feed companies entering negotiations.
Notes:
The configuration of the screw vacuum pump is suitable for areas where there is a shortage of water resources. Despite big initial investment, there is
little maintenance cost later on; it is imperative that the cyclone filter, dust and condensed water filters be used along with screw vacuum pump;
The water ring pump is relatively cheap to have, however, running water is needed on site and the wastewater from the pump should undergo
treatment. The water consumption of the water ring pump is about 1m3/h. The cyclone filter and the dust filter can match with the water ring pump.

Technology
Mixing uniformity is the most important indicator of the performance of the mixer. The uniformity which can be affected by
quite a few factors is likely to be ignored, thus leading to inaccurate testing results. The failure of the mixing uniformity also
occurs during the commissioning and acceptance of new projects.
Our research institute has been devoted to the resolving of on-site testing issues. Recently, based on our successful
experience in resolving on-site problems for our clients (Liaoning and Hubei) with their premix mixers and another client
from Guangxi with their breeding chicken feed mixer, conclusions are made to further serve our clients with better products.
As we know, the current standard (GB/T 5918-2008) for the determination of mixing uniformity of feed products includes the
chloride-ion electro method and Methyl violet method. For trace mineral feed containing molysite, the GB/T10649-2008 ferric
ion determination can also be referred to. The questions remain: Can different test methods influence the mixing uniformity
results? What else could influence the mixing effect? When facing those practical engineering problems, where shall we start
to analyze and come up with solutions?
Case one: on-site test of the performance of SJHS2C Mixer at the plant of one client in Liaoning
Through the feedback of our project manager, the premix mixer exceeded uniformity limit. The client used the Methyl violet
method in accordance with the national standard (GB) to find that the CV tended to be above 10.0. Through the comparison
with the old double-shaft mixer, the client came to the conclusion that the performance of the single-shaft mixer was not as
good as that of the double-shaft mixer.
On-site analysis: when we arrived at the field, we ran a test without changing the configuration with the Methyl violet
method. The results of CV can be seen in table 1. Obviously that the CV fluctuated between 3.66(<5)and 22.48(>5).
We also found the following patterns:
1. The result obtained by placing the tracer in the middle was better than
when it is placed sideways;
2. Among the ten spectrophotometry values, if some outlier was removed, the
corrected CV would decrease significantly;
3. The results from inside the mixer were better than those at the opening of
the package.
Solution: By studying the formulation of the client, we found that there was
a powder product that contained the hygroscopic absolute ethyl alcohol; the
Methyl violet method could thus be affected. With the client’s consent, we
switched to iron ion testing method and added an opening for casting the
tracer to the main pipeline (see picture 1). The result turned out positive, with
the CV being 3.1.

Case two: on-site test of the performance of SJHS1B Mixer at the plant of one client in Hubei
The client complained that the uniformity of the mixer was not up to the standard and the initial judgment was that the
mixing time was inappropriate. The client hoped we could help determine the best mixing time.
The iron ion testing method and the added opening ensured an improved CV of 3.1“ “
24 MY View Vol.9, No.3 Integrated Solution Provider 25
Solution: on January 29, we made some change to the mixer: added a guide plate
at the feed inlet to make the materials flow to the center of the mixer and installed
a ventilation cap to avoid stock grading(see picture 2). After the improvement,
the CV in the mixer after 150s of mixing was 3.01(<5). The uniformity showed
significant improvement.
To determine the best mixing time, we tested the uniformity after 150s of mixing
and found that the CV was 5.1 which meant overmixing.

Picture 2: on-site modification of the SJHS1B
Case 3: field test of the mixer at the plant of one client in Guangxi
The same feed formula for layers at the old plant and the new plant of the client produced varied feeding effect, making the client think that our
single-shaft mixer was not as good as the double-shaft mixer. The CV the client obtained was above 20.
Solution: the inlet at the corner is moved to the center. The CV from the field sampling test was 4.1, which met the standard.
Conclusion
1. The uniformity of the material is influenced by different test methods and inappropriate methods may come up with wrong conclusions;
2. The uniformity is also influenced by the installation process. The inlet should be as close as possible to the center, especially for the single-shaft
mixer. The inlet for the premix and the inlet for the additives should be located right in the center. The mixing section should be equipped with a
ventilation cap or connected with a return air duct to avoid stock grading;
3. Inappropriate mixing time results in unsatisfactory uniformity, which in turn leads to CVs surpassing the standard and material segregation.

Compared with wheat, the corn contains
more fiber. Even if the powder can pass the
die hole, it can get stuck at the blade of the
cutter(see picture 2), resulting in uneven cut.
Conditioning: The conditioning of small
pellets requires better conditioning. Through
the mixing effect of steam and material as
well as longer conditioning time, our tri-axial
conditioner can deliver the effect required.
Discharging mold: There is huge difference
between the discharging mold for small
pellets and mold for large pellets. Normal
production can be deeply influenced by the
mold area and the design of the hole type.
The new hole type we come up with through
quite a number of trials can effectively
reduce the blockage by fiber, thus lengthen
the duration of production.
There is always some fiber contained in the
formulas, therefore the frames of the square
plansifter should be regularly cleaned to make
sure there is no remaining fiber at the surface
of the sieve and that there is no disruption of
the continuous production of small extruded
pellets.,
Ingredients and formula: The constitution of
ingredients and formula exerts great influence
to the production of small extruded pellets.
Generally, the ingredients are better with high
starch, low fiber; ingredients containing fine
hair, fur and cotton and other ingredients that
can not be easily crushed should be avoided.
In the meantime, compared with large pellets,
small pellets need more starch(or some special
protein feedstuff ) extruded to be floating.
During the production process, the fiber
eventually ending up in the formula will block
the die hole, causing higher electric current,
higher coefficient of expansion and longer
extruded pellets that do not meet the standard
and lead to downtime. Therefore, reduction in
the fiber content of the formula can effectively
lengthen the production time of small extruded
pellets.
The choice of ingredients is of great
significance.
Ingredients free of impurities and low in fiber
content are preferred. For example, starch
flour is better than wheat in that compared
with starch flour, wheat may be mixed with
impurities such as gravel(see picture 1).Besides,
given same amount of starch, the floating
effect of flour is better than that of wheat.
Small Pellet Extrusion Technology and Its Application
Zhang Guiyang; Wu Jing; Gao Yitong
Why the small extruded pellets?
For fry rearing, the feed often takes two forms: live feed and powder lot. Take
sturgeon fry as an example, the nematode is often used, however, chances are
such live feed may lack nutrition or carry pathogenic bacteria, which in turn leads
to undernourishment, disease and lower survival rate. In addition, the longer
the fry are fed with live feed, the longer time the transition from live feed to
compound feed might take.
The powder lot can deal with the disease issue but it is still not rich in nutrition,
not to mention the amount of powder wasted during feeding and the consequent
pollution.
In the later stage, the fry feed usually takes the form of crushed hard pellets.
Production of this kind feed is convenient and cheap but bad news is that it is
high in powder percentage; there is more recycled material, poorer stability of the
hard pellets under water and the feed intake is low.
In comparison, the small extruded pellets are advantageous in terms of curing,
farming efficiency and pollution reduction.
Essentials of small extruded pellets production
Crushing: the crushing of the ingredients should by all means be done with ultra-
fine powder technology with the fineness being 100% above 80 mesh plus—
fineness should at least be 98% above 80 mesh and the maximum particle
diameter on the sieve should be no more than 0.3mm.
Usually improving the frequency of the classifier rotor to decrease the feeding
volume will do the trick.
Sieving: There are strict requirements for the production of small extruded pellets.
The mesh of the square plansifter should range 28-40; sometimes higher mesh
will be needed.
For the low-oil formulas with good fluidity, sieve frames with higher mesh are
recommended; for high-oil formulas with bad fluidity, sieve frames with lower
mesh are better.

configuration can meet the requirement
of production of small extruded pellets. We
have extra dedicated screw for the extruder
that only produce small pellets.
Current application of the small extruded
pellets
If the essentials of small extruded pellets
production are met, the s ingle-screw
extruder can produce 0.8mm pellets and the
double-screw extruder 0.6mm pellets.
The production of 0.6mm pellets by the
double-screw extruder has successfully
begun in the plant of one of clients (see
picture 3) . The technological process
and prototype equipment have been
determined. In the meantime, we are looking
for more clients to conduct trials to explore
into how different formulas and ingredients
can influence the production of small pellets.

Focus on China
The Agribusiness Capital Market behind the
Intensive Development of the Feed Industry
Against the background where antibiotic-free farming and environmental
protection receive most attention, feed manufacturing companies also
have to consider the reduction of antibiotics important to humans and the
heavy metals in their pursuit for optimal nutritional formulas.
For the capital-dominated China feed industry which is in its critical
upgrading period, reduction of antibiotics and environmental protection
mean more investment and greater technological innovation. However,
there are signs showing that group management, large-scale development
and even the shift to pig farming are still the main objectives of the listed
feed companies and large agribusinesses in their intensive development.
The importance attached to factors (such as social, economic and
environmental benefits) that influence the intensive development is
nowhere near enough.
Driven by the demand for meat products and latest feed processing technology,
considerable strides have been made in China’s feed production. According to the data of
table 1(unless otherwise specified, the data in this essay does not include the data of Hong
Kong, Macao and Taiwan), from 2006-2015, the output of China’s commercial feed grew
from 111 million tons to 200 million tons; output value rose from 290.8 billion CNY to 712.6
billion CNY, up 145%. But the output and output value year on year in the decade were
subject to fluctuation with an uptick in the first five years and downturn all the way in the
other five years.
The number of feed companies decreased from 10,843 in 2010 to 6,764 in 2015(Ministry of
Agriculture Feed Industry Center, China Feed Industry Association,etc.).
According to the objectives specified in the 13th Five-Year Plan, from 2016-2020, the annual
growth for national feed output could be around 4 million tons; the total output of feed
could reach 220 million tons by 2020. The total number of feed companies with annual
production capacity of one million tons may total at 40 with total output accounting for
60% of the national total volume. While the Twelfth Five-year Plan predicted that the
number of feed companies with annual production capacity of 500,000 tons may total at
50 with total output accounting for over 50% of the national total volume. As per the data
released by China Feed Industry Association or CFIA, in 2015 there are 48 feed companies
with a yield of 500,000 tons and their output accounted for 56.5% of the national total
volume, rising 18% and 14.5% respectively when compared with 2010.
Depth adjustment of products
In the last decade, the feed industry has been affected by the growing soy bean imports,
the structure adjustment of animal farming segment and the demands of animal farms for
animal effective diets.
While the output of poultry feed takes the first place in the global feed product mix, for
China, the production of pig feed tops the list.
In 2015, China’s total domestic feed output reached 200 million tons, of which compound
feed accounted for 174 million tons, concentrated feed 19.6 million tons and premix 6.53
million tons.
After ten years of development, the share of compound feed increased from 74% in 2006
to 87% in 2015; the percentage of concentrated feed declined 12% and the share of premix
went down 1%.
Intensiveness up, more collectivized companies

Little incentive for intensive development
Unlike the mature capital market in developed
countries, China’s capital market has been growing
in a poor environment.
B u t t h e g o o d n e w s i s
that there are more listed
agribusinesses in China.
Among the 14 listed feed
companies(see figure 2),
there are 8 feed companies
which have reached annual
sales volume more than
one mil l ion tons in the
past three years ; there
are nine companies with
total market value more
than 10 billion CNY. But
the majority of these 14
companies are drawn into a mire of slow growth
except Haid Group and TRS Group which both
witnessed considerable growth in sales volume.
The sales volume of New Hope, CP Group, Da Bei
Nong Group and Tongwei Group all registered
year-on-year decline in 2015.
Most of the listed feed companies neither release
their annual feed production nor do they disclose
the proportions of pig, poultry and aquatic feed,
but these feed companies choose to expand into
animal farming even though their growth in feed
sales is stagnant and environmental protection is
gaining ground in China while animal farming is
bearing the brunt. The feed companies are more
willing to invest in pig farming.
According to incomplete statistics, total pig
farming projects signed or under construction
by large agribusinesses are worth a total of more
than 70 billion CNY.
In the first seven months of 2016, quite a few
agribusinesses (listed and unlisted) planned to
invest more than 30 billion CNY in pig farming.
New Hope, Wens Group, Muyuan Co., Ltd., and
COFCO can serve as examples.
In 2015, such key words as “environmental pressures”,“stepping up efforts in
developing antibiotic-free feed” stood out in the annual performance reports
of a number of listed feed companies and agribusinesses. But little is known
from their reports about the specific inputs of manpower, materials and capital.
The intensive development of the feed industry that coordinates the
improvement of economic, environmental and social benefits calls for the
capital-dominant market to transform itself into a value-driven one.
In china, the most challenging issue facing animal husbandry companies is
how to deal with the residues of antibiotics and heavy metals from the waste
of livestock and poultry after their consumption of feed in that these two
factors cause profound damage to water and soil resources, jeopardizing food
safety and thus the health of the public.
