Most of our swimmers have had an opportunity to compete in their top 3 favorite events by now and are on to the other five. I love seeing your reactions when you run through the pool door and make a beeline to check the meet line-up on the cabinet. I believe you have figured out by now that I am a woman of my word in that I want you to compete in every individual event before the season ends. One of the reasons for our team’s success is that we don’t “specialize”. You are expected to work at improving all strokes, not just your favorites. Over the past many years we have been able to enter the maximum amount of entries at Sectionals and States and that is what has separated us from the others. Congratulations to the 20 teammates who have already qualified. We are at the half way point in the dual meet season and we need more qualifiers in each event. What can you do to each day to make certain your name is on the list? Through no fault of your own, we have not had a full week of practice since pre-season and of course that drives me nuts. Our first full week is the week of September 25. It also starts the beginning of Sunday practices…my most favorite thing. We will reinstitute one heat of the 500 Fly at the end of each Sunday practice until you all have had an opportunity to earn your cap but it is up to you to sign up. More than half of our team members arrive having experience from Club Teams including synchronized swimming. You have been exposed to many styles of coaching and motivation. I ask that you all continue to “open your funnel wide” in order to learn new things or be willing to make corrections. Streamlining off the walls might not be important to your club coach but it is to me so when you are with AHS, I expect you to do what it takes to get it right. When we get you out of the water to make a correction it is so you will stop doing endless yards reinforcing bad technique. What can you do to each day to make certain your name is on the list?Through no fault of your own, we have not had a full week of practice since pre-season and of course that drives me nuts. Our first full week is the week of September 25. It also starts the beginning of Sunday practices…my most favorite thing. We will reinstitute one heat of the 500 Fly at the end of each Sunday practice until you all have had an opportunity to earn your cap but it is up to you to sign up.More than half of our team members arrive having experience from Club Teams including synchronized swimming. You have been exposed to many styles of coaching and motivation. I ask that you all continue to “open your funnel wide” in order to learn new things or

be willing to make corrections.

Streamlining off the walls might not be

important to your club coach but it is to me so when you are with AHS, I expect you to do what it takes to get it right. When we get you out of the water to make a correction it is so you will stop doing endless yards reinforcing bad technique. Take advantage of all the help we want to give. Remember, “All that you give is all that you get.”

Diving 101: Volume 2

Q: What is a high score in diving?

A: The judges score on a 10-0 scale.  So, cheer really loud for anything that is a 6 and above!

Q: How about how many divers can compete at a meet?

A: Just like swimming we are allowed 3 divers in the meet.

Q: What does degree of difficulty mean?

Volume 24, Number 3

A: This is a rating of how difficult the dive is.  Once the dive is scored, the three scores are multiplied by this number to get the overall points for that dive.==========

New dives seen around the pool:

*Syd is perfecting her back 1 1/2! Soon to be seen at a meet!

*Maddie Q is working hard on her back full twisting 1 1/2!

Mrs. Fitz is excited to see some new reverse dives soon! Swimmers and divers, keep making those deposits in the AHS bank!

Patty’s Points:

What a great start to the season! It’s wonderful to see so many solid swims and terrific times so early on! Kudos to those of you who have achieved personal best times already this fall. I can’t wait for this issue of Lane Lines to be published to read the list of those who have already made Sectional and State cut times. The hard work in the pool and in the weight room is certainly paying off!

Mrs. Fitz always stresses the importance of coming off the walls streamlined and capitalizing on the distance underwater off the turns. This is something that you’re practicing daily. There have been some very close races over the past two weeks. In several of these close races the swimmers went into the turns together, and the AHS swimmer took the lead after a remarkable turn and strong kicks off the wall. Their efforts certainly paid off and served as a great example to all. Keep up the great work!

I continue to be impressed by your energy, passion, and sense of team (and, of course your awesome attire on Spirit Days)!

Patty

Notes from your Captain

Hey fam! These first meets have me hyped for the rest of the season! Our team is so crazy fast it scares me, but also makes me insanely proud. Spirit days have been awesome so far (we were sooo decked out in red white and blue for USA day!) Keep it up, ESPECIALLY for army day against AB!!! Head to toe camo, they’ll never see us coming ;D We’re about to “roll in in the dough” - cookie dough sales were through the roof! Great job and make sure that you are ready for our canning fundraiser, coming up soon. I’m crossing all my fingers that there will be another hunnah dolla bill?? Some tough meets are coming up, so let’s continue to work hard, play hard, and eat hard. Let’s do what it takes to get that 17 in 17! XOXO,Sophia P.S. If anyone is willing to take on the challenge, we need more people to master the art of the Oreo ball! This iconic treat must make a comeback :)

DAY IN AND DAY OUT”

Heard & Seen around the Pool Deck...A reminder that not everyone filled out all answers but here goes….

Did you know that Captain Sophia Ju is the MOST ORGANIZED teammate?…no surprise there! It was also voted that Mia Galat and Nika Sokolova will soon be contestants on Dancing With The Stars as they are the teammates with the most moves. While we are still in the superlatives categories Andree Pantazi will soon be employed by Maybelline showing off her eyebrows and fellow swimmers Riley Spring and Lauren Bessette will be joining her with the honor of having the best eyes. Zoe Nepomnayshy has once again knocked it out of the pool with her most votes for best hair. While every category seems to have many names listed, this next one only had a few and getting the most votes ever (24), none other than Maddie Kessel was voted THE TEAM HEARTBREAKER.

In the PET PEEVE DEPARTMENT, please use good grammar or you will have the wrath of Sarah upon you while Samira does not condone fake people. Zoe, Kaitlin, Annie, Gabby, Andrea P. and Maddie Kessel all go nuts when people chew with their mouth open and make noises. Stay out of the path of Dreea, Aleah, Polina, Ella, Sophia and Caroline when in the hallway because they get really frustrated when people walk slowly and won’t move over. Ashley G gets peeved when people aren’t loyal and Emily M is irritated by people who are clingy. McKenna can get mad when people ask a question they obviously know the answer to. Sydney simply gets peeved at Emily Ma…but we know that is not so. You had better watch what you are wearing because Sydney T does not want your labels sticking out of your clothing. Jesse F has been brought up well and wishes others had better manners while Jessica S gets put off by people cracking body parts. Riley is peeved at her cat when she pushes

open her door and then abruptly leaves. Lauren does not like it when you close in on her personal space and Emily Clements dislikes it when a room is empty and you come and sit right next to her. Nika can throw a fit if she sees you wearing your pants tucked into long socks. If you want to stay on Jordy’s good side, don’t forget to shut the door when you leave a room. Becca does not like mean people and I am with her on that. Ysabella gets annoyed by having her name mispronounced and Ashley D does not like being interrupted when she is doing something. Elia P gets irritated when people sneeze around her while Mia G. and Vic are peeved by nail biters. Loud gum chewers are the pet peeve of Mia H., Kat and Eliza and while I am not certain about what this means, Emme does not like flickering lights.

Voting in THE MOST LIKELY TO CATEGORY was a runaway in some areas and tightly grouped in others. Riley and Elia were runaway winners in the most likely to be caught lapping vote. Of course, yours truly thought that meant in the pool until I was informed it was lapping around the school. Not sure why either would be considered a good thing. Mia G and Kat were thought to be late for school the most often and teammates thought both Vic and Jesse would become swim coaches. Hands down favorite to be seen on Broadway in the future is Zoe but Reverie and Ashley D will have supporting roles. Jordy and Emily M were thought to be most likely to be in the pool first but the overall landslide winner in the opposite category of last in the pool was Emily C. (She’s turned over a new leaf by the way) There was not even a close second on who would win a game of lane tag. Jordy, you are it. Maddie K, Ashley G and Kat have the distinction of being future crazy cat ladies.

Wizards of Waverly Place, Dragon Tales, I Carly, Suite Life on Deck and Hannah Montana were the shows of yesteryear you were most addicted to. That’s a wrap for this issue. We will

be starting off with what you would do with one day left to live in Issue 4…
