About Virtual BAJA
The Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA is a filtration criterion, through which all the registered teams are scrutinized for their
knowledge and capability to participate successfully in the main event. Virtual BAJA started in the year 2009 and is
supported by working professionals as judges and volunteers across the country.
The Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA acts as a pre‐qualifier to participation in the BAJA SAEINDIA event.
The objectives of the Virtual BAJA Event are as follows:
1. To acquaint the teams completely with the objectives of the BAJA SAEINDIA event.
2. The teams are required to acquaint themselves with the technical guidelines and limits for the
design of BAJA vehicle.
3. To design the complete CAD Model of the BAJA Vehicle. The design should be complete in all
respects to the extent of being considered ready‐to‐manufacturing.
The design presented during the event shall be considered as final and the team shall be considered to proceed
towards fabrication activity using the same design. Failing this, the teams shall be penalized / disqualified if the
fabricated vehicle does not exhibit correlation with the design report or if the teams fail to fabricate within the
stipulated timeframe.
Based on the performance in the Virtual BAJA, the teams would be selected for participation in the main event.
The selection would be purely on the basis of merit and ONLY ONE TEAM PER COLLEGE shall be allowed on the
basis of comparative merit. This excludes the eBAJA registrations from those colleges.
Note: The Virtual BAJA is a pre‐qualifier, thus, no ranks or awards would be issued for the Virtual BAJA event.

About Chitkara University
In the year 2002, Chitkara Educational Trust
established its Punjab campus 30 kms from
Chandigarh, on the Chandigarh–Patiala National
Highway. In the year 2010 Chitkara University was
established by the Punjab State Legislature under
“The Chitkara University Act”.
Chitkara University, the best university in Punjab
is a government‐recognized university with the
right to confer degrees as per the Sections 2(f)
and 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956.
The sprawling campus of the University is
equidistant from Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula,
Ambala and Patiala. The University offers multi‐
disciplinary programs, all of which are designed to
be industry‐relevant. As a result of this student‐centric approach, Chitkara University is renowned as one of the
best private universities in the North India region. From business management programs to programs in nursing
and medical laboratory technologies; and from computer science, electronics and mechanical engineering
programs, to hotel management and architecture—Chitkara University, Punjab is a veritable cornucopia of
educational services.
Curriculum is delivered in spacious, amphitheatre‐style classrooms—fitted with modern information and
communication technology (ICT) equipment—and in well‐equipped, modern laboratories. Additionally, students
are encouraged—and provided relevant facilities—to participate in co‐curricular and extra‐curricular activities
through various clubs and societies on the campus.
It is because of the cumulative effect of an elaborate in‐campus academic infrastructure; strong national and
international collaborations; and a robust on‐campus recruitment record—including regular recruitment by
reputed blue‐chip companies—that the University finds favor with national as well as international students.
A healthy number of foreign students regularly study at the campus and number of them also visit on exchange
programs, adding to the cultural diversity found on campus. The University in Punjab provides several
opportunities for local students, too, to visit foreign universities and institutions on such exchange programs,
thereby helping them receive invaluable international exposure.
The University has at the centre of its philosophical core the commitment to excellence in education. It is the
strong academic heritage of the University, and such firmness on matters of principles that has seen it grow from
strength to strength in such a short span of time.

An Aauto Welcome
In the current generation, only Innovation and Quick Ideas can be regarded as the
most apt differentiator for the engineers globally. Humans have always improved
life through innovation. From the discovery of fire to electricity, the Internet of
things, new rationale is impervious to social progress and economic proliferation.
Innovation is an inherently human endeavour, it succeeds when people with Skills,
Experience, and Capabilities come together to understand or predict, and then
solve the inherent common problems impeding the growth of a Nation. Talent,
which is available in our Country, in plenty, needs to be nurtured pragmatically, as
it is a key catalyst for driving innovation and growth.
Successful innovation rests on a foundation of education and skills. Education is a fundamental element in
innovation and access to both basic and vocational education is key to talent development. Its high time that
Countries start considering to dedicate a significant percentage out of their GDP (Gross Domestic Product) into
Education and Intellectual capacity building, for the human resource to drive innovation and growth. It is equally
important for industries and businesses to actively bridge up with Academia and enhance education systems.
The modern students have so many competitive options available to demonstrate their talent and Innovation
Quotient that can attract the Core Industries in recruiting the right candidate who can contribute innovations to
their existing systems. With such engineering competitions, you have got a chance to do something what you
dreamt, incepted, wanted to endeavour and thus create a space of your own.
I hope to see that through Baja event, with the massive participation it gets, all can learn how to manufacture
automobiles. So, with a strong vision of “MAKE IN INDIA” I wish one and all participating colleges and Universities,
Good Luck and welcome you at Chitkara University for the Virtual BAJA SAEINDIA 2015 and may the best teams
advance to the Finals.
EXPLORE YOUR POTENTIAL, always!

Food & Dining
When it comes to North Indian cuisine, the first thing that strikes mind is the Punjabi traditional food.
There is nothing specific as far as the Chandigarh cuisine is concerned. It is mainly the Punjabi food that
forms part of cuisine of Chandigarh, India. Punjabi cuisine is popular not just among Indians, but also
among the foreigners. The staple food mainly consists of wheat‐based rotis, paranthas and naan.
The main feature of Punjabi food is the extensive use of butter, cream, ghee and cheese. Their meals
usually consist of pulses cooked on a slow flame with the traditional Punjabi tadka. For preparing the
gravy, a mixture of onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and spices are used. Usually the traditional Punjabi food
is prepared in the earthen tandoors, which give the food a unique aroma. In the category of beverages,
one name that truly deserves a mention is the Punjab‐di‐Lassi.

Design Aggregates and specifications
Slides should be prepared after studying and understanding following points.
Questions at virtual presentation may cover all these aspects.
Slides on aggregate design should be prepared to explain following points:
Within: Understanding requirements and limitations of vehicle for the aggregate
What: Overall vehicle performance expected from the aggregate – relevance of aggregate parameters
How: Design approach and methodology for the aggregate, based on Automobile Engineering basics.
Why & why not: Justifications for selecting a particular design & why not selecting alternate designs.
Decision & List: Final specifications for the aggregate.
