Virtual Enrichment Week 2020: Year 7-9
As we move into the final month of the academic year next week, students would usually be looking forward to a range of events
such as sports day and enrichment week which would be an opportunity to celebrate student’s hard work throughout the
academic year. It has become apparent that both students and parents are extremely disappointed about missing out on these
opportunities due to the coronavirus pandemic this year.
Whilst it won’t be the same offer as our usual enrichment opportunities, we are going to run a virtual enrichment week from the 6th –
10th July for students in Year 7-9. There is a variety of subjects/themes for students to choose from for this week which can be found
in this booklet. Students can follow one subject/theme for the entire week or they have the option to ‘pick n mix’ activities from
different subjects/themes for each day of the week.
We will be encouraging students to step away from their online learning and reduce their screen time to get active, creative,
socialise and hopefully have some fun! There will be no expectation for students to complete online work during this week,
however online learning will resume for the final week of term. We anticipate that the virtual activities will be accessible to all
students and we have included links with further details for certain activities.
Students can send evidence (e.g. photos or diary entries) of their enrichment if they wish to their Tutor, Head of Year or Teachers
during this week. We will also be asking students to write a diary entry at the end of each day (either handwritten or electronically).
A template is included towards the end of this booklet. Students will also be awarded points for each activity they complete (in the
form of bronze, silver and gold challenges) and they will be able to keep a tally of points scored in the table provided.
Whilst we will be encouraging students to take part in virtual enrichment week with family or friends, we still strongly advocate that
students follow the latest government guidelines and advice regarding social distancing and the maximum size of groups currently
allowed to meet outside. Students are currently able to meet with other friend’s outdoors “with groups of up to six people from
different households, provided social distancing is observed and you stay 2m away from anyone outside their own household or
support bubble”. Furthermore it is important to try and limit the number of people you see, especially over short periods of time.
Further government guidance and FAQ’s can be found using the following link.

House Points Competition
Students will have the option to select how many challenges to complete each day and challenges will vary in difficulty from
bronze, silver and gold challenges. Students may follow one subject/theme for the entire week if they wish to or they can ‘pick n
mix’ challenges from different subjects/themes each day.
Each individual bronze, silver and gold challenge completed is worth the following points which students can tally throughout the
week in the table below:
Bronze challenge = 1 point Silver challenge = 2 points Gold Challenge = 3 points
Bronze Silver Gold
Total Points scored at the end of the week:
The top 3 scoring students in each year group will be awarded the following house points: 1st 30 points, 2nd 20 points and 3rd 10 points.
Every student who participates in some form of enrichment during this week will receive 5 house points.
Students will be able to complete a google form on their Year group classroom on Friday 10th July to submit their total points scored if they wish
to enter the competition, they will also be able to attach any evidence they may want to submit. Students may also send evidence (e.g.
photos) to their tutor, HOY or Teachers listed on the activity information sheets via school email.
We look forward to seeing your entries!

Theme: Drama – creating and performing
Staff to contact: SCa
Monday – Shadow puppets Tuesday – Community Good News
Report
Wednesday – Mask Making Thursday – Drama Games Friday – Create a character.
Bronze:
Make a shadow puppet using the
link below and materials from
around your house.
Bronze: Find out some things that are
going on in your area. What things
are opening that were closed? What
changes have you noticed about life
in your community?
Write a headline that sums up your
findings
Bronze: Make a basic paper mask
using the technique from the link
and wear it, take a mask selfie.
Bronze: Play charades (Socially
distanced of course) with your family
or friends. You must explain the rules
to the people that you are playing
with. See link for rules.
Bronze: Start by observing a stranger sitting
in a park or on a bench (make sure you do
this from a safe distance and not in an
obvious way*) After observing them for a
short while find somewhere to recreate
their posture, body language and facial
expressions. Be as accurate as you can
from your memory.
Silver: Set up a screen and light
source and bring your shadow
puppet to life, by making it move
across the screen.
Silver: Interview some people in your
community to get a more in depth
perspective for your news report, turn
your findings into a newsletter or
newspaper front page.
Silver: Decorate your mask with
colour and detail, try and make
your mask show an emotion.
Make a video of you in your mask
acting out or miming everyday
tasks.
Silver: Play ‘sausages’ with your
family or friends. You must explain the
rules to the people you are playing
with. Person A asks person B questions
and they are only allowed to answer
with the word ‘sausages’ and must
not smile or laugh. If you do, you’re
out
Silver: Create a backstory for this
character. Invent a personality for them
that based on their backstory. Use your
imagination to make up reasons as to why
they are in the park, be creative.
Gold: Create a story for your
shadow puppet(s) Use your voice
to tell the story and allow your
characters to speak.
Gold: Create a news round style TV
show in which you are the presenter.
Interview people and present the
findings about what has been going
on in your community.
Video record it and/or perform it at
home.
Gold: Create a short story for your
masked character to perform.
Use your body to communicate
what is going on and see if you
can communicate your story
without words.
Video record it and/or perform it
at home.
Gold: Invent your own drama game
that you can play in a socially
distanced way. Teach your new
game to your family and friends and
then play it.
Gold: Write a speech in which this
character explains what they are thinking
and feeling. Video yourself performing as
this character in the park or on a bench.
