1 Revised January 6, 2015 e.g. VISA Application Instructions New Zealand Universities Program: Fall, Spring, and Year 2014-15 University of Lincoln Sustainability Program, Fall and Spring 2014-15 In order to study in New Zealand you must apply for and receive a student visa from the New Zealand Consulate-General in advance of your arrival. New this fall, students are able to apply for their student visas online. Make sure to review the New Zealand Student Visa Guide before getting started, and see the step-by-step guide to filling out the online application below. One-semester students, please be aware that if you choose a nine-month visa instead of a six- month visa, the cost of your New Zealand national insurance goes up. The fees for New Zealand national insurance are added to your UCEAP fees (except for University of Canterbury students, who must pay the New Zealand insurance directly). Therefore, if choosing a nine-month visa, you will notice that higher associated costs are added to your UCEAP account. Unusual circumstances: If you are staying in New Zealand longer than 12 months OR if you present risk factors for TB (by the NZ immigration department’s definition), you will be required to submit a Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate. Also, any student who intends to stay in New Zealand for more than 12 months must submit a General Medical Certificate as well as the Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate. After completing your online application, you must submit your actual passport to the VAC (address below), as the visa will be stamped in your passport. Submit the following with your passport:

• A print out of your online visa application confirmation (it should show your visa application number so that they may match it to your passport)

• Authorization Form to authorize payment of VAC handling and service fees. See CHARGES and AUTHORIZATION FORM below.

Application Fee: U.S. citizens residing in the U.S. do not pay a visa application fee for the student visa (although other service fees are charged – see below). Citizens of other countries going on the program, please see the Fees Guide.

CHARGES and AUTHORIZATION FORM: Although US citizens do not pay a standard visa application fee, all applicants using the online visa application must pay a VAC handling fee of $31.50 to the Visa Application Center (VAC) for services. In addition, if you do not include a pre-paid courier envelope with your application, you will also need to include the courier deliver fee for the safe and timely return of your stamped passport. If you DO include your own pre-paid, self-addressed courier envelope, the VAC will waive the courier charge.

Check “Yes” for the first question. You are an EXCHANGE STUDENT. Type of Exchange: “School to school exchange” You can find your program start and end dates on your UCEAP Pre-Departure Checklist Calendar.

Most students will be financially supported by one or both of the FIRST TWO choices on this list: A third party (normally a parent), and/or you have your own funding (this includes financial aid. Contact your financial aid office for an award letter to upload to your visa application.

“Outward travel” means you are leaving New Zealand. You will need to show proof you are leaving at the end of your program later in this application by uploading documentation.
