Last yearsaw a hugeincrease in Americans heading outside looking to experience nature and get some fresh air. Indiana golf courses benefitted from a new crop of players both young and old, and they saw record numbers of rounds played from July through October. The courses showcase our diverse topography across the state with river views, exquisite greens, picturesque bluffs and rolling hills.

Highlighted in the guide this year is Indiana’s Pete Dye Golf Trail, a one-of-a-kind collection of courses you will only find in the Hoosier State. Golfers are encouraged to check out the Pete Dye Golf Trail Challenge to keep track of your progress and earn that coveted PDGT Pin Flag. Along the trail you can also check out the exquisite collection of Pete Dye memorabilia at Maple Creek Country Club. The exhibit is unique to Maple Creek and featured in this year’s guide.

Whether you are the experienced golfer looking for a new challenge or a newbie to the game looking for a fun day on the links, there is something for everyone in the Visit Indiana Golf Guide and at VisitIndianaGolf.com.

T here are three different paths to get the same result when planning a memorable Indiana golf trip. First, a group can decide what

area of the state to play and have a “golf packager” make the accommodations and

GOLF TRIP

tee time arrangements. Another approach is for a group leader to make the decisions of where to play and stay, collect the money and pay all deposits. Finally, a group of players each takes a different responsibility and ensures the trip comes together as

a team. Regardless of how the planning is approached, here are some basic steps to consider.

WHEN ARE WE GOING?Here’s how it usually happens. A group

of players are sitting in the clubhouse after a round on their home course. “Anyone interested in going to Indiana and playing some golf?” someone asks, and it begins.

The first challenge is deciding upon the dates that are most compatible to everyone’s schedule. Are we looking at a weekend where we might get two or three rounds in? More rounds and room nights will likely require using some vacation time. Is there a time of year that provides seasonal rates? Adult couples tend to prefer late summer and fall, while mixed groups prefer spring and early summer.

WHICH INDIANA REGION ARE WE PLAYING?

In most cases, which Indiana region you play is somewhat pre-determined by when you’ve planned to take the trip. If your group is planning a weekend trip, you’re probably leaving after work Friday and arriving in Indiana that evening. You’ll

play Saturday morning, possibly an afternoon replay, a Sunday round and then depart.

Time of year can also be a factor. Indiana’s southern region welcomes golfers in the early spring and late autumn, while the northern areas are best during the summer.

WHERE ARE WE STAYING?Knowing the Indiana region

you’ll be visiting makes choosing a destination for your golf trip easy. Take a look at the Indiana Golf Guide, visit online at visitindianagolf.com or take a look at some of the region’s destination websites to see where the golf is located. As well, decide on whether you want a golf resort, a golf packager or a hotelier to reserve your accommodations.

WHAT COURSES ARE WE PLAYING?

I’ve played hundreds of golf courses and done almost a hundred golf course reviews. There was only one that was a real dirt track, but they had some of the best Southern barbeque I’d ever had. The point is that over-thinking the golf courses you’d like to play is a waste of your

time. Indiana has great golf courses, and that’s why the state is a great golf destination.

Stick with courses that reflect similar length, slope and handicap to your home course for your first round. Experiment with different course ratings for later rounds. Take a look at any course reviews, but proceed with caution.

Just as important to consider is the drive time to the courses. You can certainly get up in time to make any tee time, but how many balls do you

need to hit? Personally, I’m ready to go with no more than 20 balls and a few putts. On the other hand, there’s always a golfer like my grandson. If I hit as many balls as he does, I might not finish the round! Maybe that’s why he’s a low handicap and I’m not.

JUST A FEW TIPSIf you purchased a new set of clubs

just for the trip, make certain you get to the driving range a few times before traveling. Getting

an extra pair of slacks and a few shirts for dinner at a nice restaurant. Double-check you have enough golf balls, gloves and tees.

Finally, for the first-time golf trip planner, consider using a hotel/resort that offers golf packages or a company that provides that service. Regardless how you approach planning your Indiana golf trips, enjoy the experience. That’s what it’s all about. For more Indiana golf trip opportunities, check out visitindianagolf.com.

geared into the club’s distances before the trip will pay dividends. Speaking of new, make sure your novice players feel welcome. Golf is a great game to be enjoyed by all levels of play.

Pack according to the weather. Regardless of what the weatherman says, in addition to my regular golf shoes (I know someone who showed up for a round without golf shoes) I have a pair of “mudders” that go with me when I travel. If you have rain gear, bring it along too. I also throw in the suitcase

Island or the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, the roots of his golf design genius are in Indiana. Dye’s first 18-hole creation was the Maple Creek Golf & Country Club – originally named the Heather Hills Golf and Country Club – in Indianapolis. This course opened in 1961.

To honor Dye’s Indiana ties, the Pete Dye Golf Trail was formed in the Hoosier State. Right now, it’s a seven-course trail: The Pete Dye Course (French Lick), Brickyard Crossing Golf Course (Indianapolis), The Fort Golf Course (Indianapolis), Maple Creek Country Club (Indianapolis), Tippecanoe Country Club (Monticello) and the Ackerman-Allen and Kampen golf courses at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (West Lafayette).

If you are interested in playing all seven courses along Indiana’s Pete Dye Golf Trail, you will be rewarded for your efforts. Your prize will be an Official Pete Dye Golf Trail Pin Flag.

To be eligible to earn your official pin flag, visit PeteDyeGolf Trail.com and click on the Trail Challenge tab. From there, it’s a matter of registering for your Trail Passport and following the instructions. To earn your official pin flag, you must check in at each course on your mobile device, upload a photo of yourself on any of the seven courses or register your paid green fees receipt through the Trail Passport page.

When you play each course along the Pete Dye Golf Trail, take a picture while you are on the golf courses and share it on social media using the hashtag #PeteDyeGolfTrailChallenge.

If you have any questions about this Trail Passport program, you can contact the Pete Dye Golf Trail via email ([email protected]) or phone (317-232-0600).

I t’s not a stretch to say that the late, legendary Pete Dye was one of the finest golf course architects of his generation. Dye’s footprint on golf

is prolific, and his impact remains on full display around the world. Golf legend Jack Nicklaus, himself a world-renowned golf course architect, is a big fan of Dye’s.

“I think Pete Dye was the most creative, imaginative and unconventional golf course designer that I have ever been around,” said Nicklaus.

While Dye’s most publicized projects may be the TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, the Ocean Course at Kiawah

THE PETE DYE COURSE AT FRENCH LICK LOCATION: French Lick ResortNOTABLE EVENTS: 2015 Senior PGA Championship, 2017-2019 Senior LPGA Championship

The Pete Dye Course is at the center of the world-renowned French Lick Resort, the only site in the world that boasts both a classic Donald Ross design and a Pete Dye layout. In 2019, the French Lick Resort was selected among the Editors’ Choice Award by Golf Digest as one of the “Best Golf Resorts in the Midwest” and, most recently, the Pete Dye Course was ranked among the

publication’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.”

The Pete Dye Course includes three man-made lakes and was built on top of the surrounding hills. When you arrive at the clubhouse (one of the prettiest views in the Midwest), you’re granted a 360-degree view of southern Indiana and the surrounding Hoosier National Forest. On clear days, visitors can see up to 40 miles away.

“As I built the golf course, I tried to get the tees, fairways and greens in position that they have these long views over the valleys and hills,” said Dye.

BRICKYARD CROSSING GOLF COURSELOCATION: Indianapolis Motor Speedway NOTABLE EVENTS: PGA Champions Tour Comfort Classic 1994-2000, 2017-2019 LPGA Indy Women in Tech Championship

Ladies and gentlemen, start your golf carts! That’s the message for every golfer who plays the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis. This 18-hole stretch of championship golf is named in honor of its famous sporting neighbor: the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (which is also known as the Old Brickyard). Brickyard Crossing also appears on the list of “America’s Top 100 American Public Golf Courses” by both Golf Digest and Golfweek.

The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, a Pete Dye re-design, has 14 holes situated on the outskirts of the Speedway and four holes that

are located within the infield of the “Racing Capital of the World.” Those four golf holes are located near the famous Gasoline Alley. To reach those four infield holes, you must drive your golf cart through a tunnel which is under the actual racetrack.

As you play holes 1-7 and 12-18, the grandstands of the speedway are always lurking in the background. Three of the most memorable holes are 7, 8 and 18. The 7th hole, the first inside the speedway’s infield, is a par-3 that is played from a perched tee to a raised green. From this tee, there’s a 360-degree, jaw-dropping view of the speedway. On the 18th hole, a historic barn is your target off the tee. This barn symbolizes Indiana’s strong agricultural roots.

Each pin features a black-and-white checkered flag with the logo of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway sewn across, so when you play Brickyard Crossing, you get 18 checkered-flag experiences.

THE FORT GOLF COURSE

LOCATION: 25 minutes from downtown Indianapolis NOTABLE EVENTS: 2015, 2016 Big Ten Women’s Championship, Indiana PGA Boys Championship

The Fort Golf Course is one of the finest public golf courses in Indiana. In December 2018, Golf Advisor listed The Fort as number one in its “Top 25 Courses for Layout in the U.S.” list, beating legendary courses such as Bethpage Black.

U.S. Army personnel have played golf here since the 1950s, when the course was originally called the Fort Harrison Officers Club and Golf Course. Things changed in 1998 after the re-design by golf course architects Pete Dye and Tim Liddy. The course was re-named The Fort and opened for public play.

“The Fort is a very enjoyable golf course and very secluded, yet

only 25 minutes from downtown Indianapolis,” said John Swan, head golf professional at The Fort. “Our course is surrounded by the Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park, so there are no residential homes on the course.”

A par-72 layout, The Fort caters to all golfers and features five sets of tees. The red tees measure 5,045 yards while the gold tees stretch out to 7,148 yards.

Visitors can also stay on-site at one of three housing options. The first is Fort Harrison State Park Inn (a 28-room historic building located just 300 yards from the first tee), and the second is the Harrison House (which features a master suite, six bedrooms and beautiful views of the first tee). You can also stay at the Officer’s Homes, a cluster of three-bedroom houses that offer access to the first tee and are fully furnished with a kitchen and dining room.

MAPLE CREEK COUNTRY CLUB

LOCATION: IndianapolisNOTABLE EVENTS: 1988 Pro Golf Tour $100,000 Indianapolis Invitational

Maple Creek Country Club, located on the northeast side of Indianapolis, is Dye’s first 18-hole golf-course design. Originally opened as Heather Hills Golf and Country Club in 1961, this 18-hole layout was created in partnership with Pete’s wife, Alice. Today, the Maple Creek Country Club features small greens, narrow fairways lined with mature trees and natural long grass areas. Multiple

bunkers complement a creek that winds its way through the front nine.

“Maple Creek is a picturesque and classical setting defined by challenging yet rewarding design features,” states Jim Grossi, Maple Creek’s general manager/head golf professional.

While all 18 holes at Maple Creek are creative designs, the signature hole is the par-5 13th. “At 13, you will find great optical design features from the teeing ground as well as the second and optional third shot approach,” reveals Grossi. “This green challenges even the most achieved golfers.”

BIRCK BOILERMALER GOLF COMPLEX: ACKERMAN-ALLEN & KAMPEN

LOCATION: West LafayetteNOTABLE EVENTS: 2003 Women’s NCAA Championship, 2008 Men’s NCAA Championship, 2017 Indiana State Open, 2004 Indiana State Open

The men’s and women’s golf teams at Purdue University are blessed with two nationally acclaimed golf courses at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

Ackerman-Allen is a parkland-style course that Dye redesigned in 2015 to includes bent grass in the greens, fairways and tees. This course is a memory-maker that features rolling hills, tree-lined

fairways, white sand bunkers and wide collection areas around the greens. During the redesign, two new holes were created and the championship tees were extended from 6,400 yards to 7,500 yards. The course is named in honor of Jim and Lois Ackerman and Sam Allen for their support of Purdue University athletics.

The Kampen Course is every bit the equal of Ackerman-Allen. The Kampen Course is a links-style layout with vast sand bunkers, well-placed waste bunkers, man-made wetlands, and a natural celery bog. The course is named in honor of Emerson Kampen and his support of Purdue University athletics. A statue of Kampen overlooks the first tee.

TIPPECANOE COUNTRY CLUB

LOCATION: Monticello NOTABLE EVENTS: Indiana PGA Monticello Open

The Tippecanoe Country Club, which is adjacent to Lake Shafer in Monticello, is one of the oldest and most treasured attractions in northern Indiana. The club was originally a nine-hole course that opened for play in 1920.

Over the years, the Tippecanoe Country Club has since been updated and expanded. The most significant change to the golf course took place in 1963. Back then, a young new golf course designer named Pete Dye was hired to add an additional nine holes to the existing golf course. The future hall of fame golf course architect poured his heart and soul into the Tippecanoe Country Club. When all was said

and done, Dye had designed the back nine and had also re-designed portions of the front nine, including all the tees and greens. Dye’s design remains as relevant today as it was back in the early 1960s.

According to head golf professional John Alexander, his golf course’s biggest compliment comes from the high percentage of annual return players.

“I have many golfers from Indiana and the entire Midwest who come back to play our golf course every year,” says Alexander. “Our golf course features a few risk-and-reward holes, a number of old trees and well-designed layout by Pete Dye. The presence of Lake Shafer on the first three holes gets your attention immediately.”

Today, this 18-hole, par-72 golf course is a semi-private club that is open to the public.

PETE’S PASSION for golf began in his childhood home of Urbana, Ohio, where he won the high school state championship in 1943. This senior yearbook confirms that Pete had committed to Yale University before he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia.

THE COUPLE proceeded to design over 100 courses, including Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin and TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (the course’s famous “island green” 17th hole was Alice’s idea). The Dyes’ signature elements included small greens, tricky par-4s, deep bunkers and water hazards bordered by railroad ties. Below is a ball from the eco-conscious Caesarea Golf Club, which the Dyes redesigned in 2009.

PETE & ALICE DYE: INDIANA LEGENDS

Dye began their legendary careers in Indiana and Indianapolis’ Maple Creek Country Club: their first 18-hole design. The property’s clubhouse is home to one of the most extensive Dye memorabilia

collections in the world, with rare flags, balls, course layouts and pins available for golfers and non-golfers alike to admire. Curated by Maple Creek’s membership sales director Joe Lorenzano, the collection reveals the extraordinary story of two of America’s most acclaimed golf course architects.

WHEN PETE and Alice were approached in 1960 to design what was then called Heather Hills Country Club, the couple had no experience creating an 18-hole layout. For a mere $8,000, they were commissioned to create a course that integrated Grassy Creek into the design and offer views of the bordering 21st St. The couple would later tour Scotland and integrate the country’s famous links design elements into their later, more elaborate designs, but this sketch by Alice shows the pair’s fundamental artistry was present at the beginning of their careers.

THE DYES’ influence can be felt far beyond the United States. In 1986, Pete and Alice were commissioned to design the Franciacorta Golf Club in Italy’s northern Brescia Province. Considered a “wine golf course,” the club’s three 9-hole loops are named for the region’s famed varietals and offer stunning views of Lake Iseo. The property was originally designed to be completely private, and members were required to wear this pin on their lapel to identify themselves.

MAPLE CREEK’S extensive collection includes over 25 flags from courses the Dyes designed. Oak Tree National, located in Edmond, Oklahoma and host of the 2006 Senior PGA Championship, remains one of the couple’s most celebrated creations in the region. The course’s signature hole is the 5th, a 592-yard par-5 that forces players to avoid the enormous oak tree that gives the club its name.

This area is home to one of the largest Amish populations in the nation and features award-winning bakeries, all-you-can-eat buffets and welcoming resorts perfect for a weekend away from home. Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana, LaSalle Farm & Table in Nappanee and Das Dutchman Essenhaus

in Middlebury all offer family-style meals that include fried chicken, country vegetables and freshly baked pies. The adjacent Blue Gate Theatre stages a full slate of original musicals with a Christian theme in its 320-seat performance space. The area’s rich soil is ideal for sweet fruit wine, and Fruit Hills Winery & Orchard in Bristol allows visitors to imbibe samples of their signature apple wine on an airy deck space.

The state’s largest cluster of wineries can be found in the Northern Indiana Lakes Country area. Home to outlet shopping, historic downtowns and microbreweries, this area’s premier outdoor attraction is Pokagon State Park. Framed by Lake James and Snow Lake, this recreation area offers plentiful hiking and boating opportunities for non-golfers in your group in addition to lodging at the 138-room Potawatomi Inn. Fort Wayne is Northern Indiana’s largest city and features waterfront bars, live theater and other sporting facilities for evening entertainment. and relax over coffee, hot chocolate or a sundae in the adjoining café. Other popular area attractions include the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum (home to over 20 classic cars and rare design sketches) and Parkview Field (where the San Diego Pades-affiliated Fort Wayne TinCaps play during the summer).

Brewing Company. At Wildcat Creek Winery, your party can relax in a restored farmhouse and sample delicious creations like the Prophet’s Rock Red (a medium-bodied red), Cayuga White (a floral white with hints of apricot) and Aunt Minnie’s Cherry Tree (“a cherry pie in a glass”).

On your way to the Pete Dye-designed Tippecanoe Country Club, stop in Crasian Brewing Company in Brookston for tasty locally sourced microbrews. If you’re enjoying a day in Muncie, be sure to stop at Elm Street Brewing Company, where you can fill out a flight card to sample some of Elm Street’s popular creations, including the Bantam Light Cream Ale, CitraNOPE IPA and Reverse Mullet sour DIPA.

The Hoosier State’s cosmopolitan capital, Indianapolis is home to several Pete Dye-designed courses and hundreds of bars, restaurants and

theaters to spend your evenings. Located near the famous Crooked Stick Golf Club, the Upland Carmel Tap House is a social taproom serving year-round favorites like the Dragonfly IPA or Bad Elmer’s Porter in addition to seasonal specialties such as the summertime Tropical Vortex IPA. You’ll also want to explore the Carmel City Center, an entertainment district modeled after

European town squares and populated with a variety of bars and restaurants that surround the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts. This venue (architecturally inspired by Viennese concert halls) hosts symphonies, rock musicians and Broadway-caliber musicals throughout the year. The history of this land takes us from the Civil War when the Indianapolis Arsenal supplied munitions for federal troops to the establishment of Fort Benjamin Harrison. Fast forward to 1995, when Indiana’s request for use of 1,700 acres of the property as a state park and nature preserve was granted. In 1998, Fort Golf Course opened and was ranked third among the “Best Affordable New Public Courses.” The course is set in a marvelous wooded area with trees lining most holes, rolling fairways and fairway bunkers and Dye’s signature undulating greens. Nowhere are those features more prevalent than on Hole No. 4, the No. 1 handicap. Driving accuracy is a must. A short approach shot to the right of the green will kick to the green and avoid the well trapped and out of bounds left.

Midwest. Try Burmese curry at Mandalay Restaurant, momo dumplings at Anyetsang’s Little Tibet and spicy Thai soups at Siam House. Craft cocktail connoisseurs will want to spend an evening at Cardinal Spirits for a taste of award-winning vodka and rum. Walk amongst the stills for a tour before you claim a seat on the outdoor

patio and for a tiki drinf, refreshing gin fizz or twist on a traditional Moscow Mule.

Golfers in Southern Indiana can also stop in Nashville to experience the town’s nearly 250 restaurants, art galleries and studios. If you’re short on time, be sure to visit the T.C. Steele State Historic Site, where visitors can walk through the artist’s

Southern Indiana is a rolling limestone landscape filled with

welcoming cities that are populated by restaurants, resorts and historic sites. Golfers making dinner plans in Bloomington should visit Fourth Street Restaurant Row, a block of bungalows that house one of the most diverse representations of Asian cuisine in the

own studio, admire over 50 Hoosier Group paintings and explore the grounds that inspired much of Steele’s own work. If you want to savor the evening in the rolling Brown County hills, stop by Hard Truth Distillery for a facility tour and sample creations like the Cinnamon Vodka, Toasted Coconut Rum and the award-winning Hard Truth Gin. Nashville is also entry point of Brown County State Park—Indiana’s largest state park. Abe Martin Lodge has 90 rooms, and the surrounding furnished rustic cabins can sleep up to six. The park offers numerous hiking and biking opportunities and is famous for its colorful fall foliage vistas.

Continue east to Columbus, which is notable for its numerous golf

courses, public art and extraordinary examples of modernist architecture. If you have time before or after your round, stop to admire Eero Saarinen’s famous Miller House, the starkly triangular First Baptist Church and the Robert N. Stewart Bridge. Golfers can also enjoy a laid-back craft beer experience at Columbus Pump House, which occupies a 1903 brick building that served as the city’s power station for 50 years. Here you can savor a Champagne Velvet Pilsner or Campsite Pale Ale on a spacious patio that overlooks the White River. Eight miles north of Columbus is Indiana Premium Outlets, a lineup of 85 stores including Gap, Adidas, Under Armour, Coach and Nike.

Surrounded by the Hoosier National Forest, the twin towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs are famed for two resort hotels that once attracted elite society members with their curative mineral springs. Today, the properties have been restored to their early 20th century glamour and draw visitors to pristine courses designed by Pete Dye and Donald Ross. Register for a tour of the West Baden Springs Hotel, which includes Roman-inspired gardens, Art Deco architectural touches and the immense lobby topped by one of the world’s largest domes. Afterwards, take a short trolley ride to the French Lick Casino, a 24-hour complex that features over 1,000 slot machines, live dealer tables and the baseball-themed Casino Park

Grill. The 33 Brick Street restaurant in downtown French Lick is furnished with autographed jerseys and memorabilia that honor hometown hero Larry Bird, while Valley Sports Bar offers craft cocktails and live sports broadcasts in a wood-paneled lounge. Visitors can also stop at French Lick Winery for delicious tastings and gifts.

French Lick Winery is part of the Indiana Uplands

Wine Trail, a collection of nine south-central Indiana wineries that offer behind-the-scenes glimpses into the winemaking process and the opportunity to sample exceptional vintages. Stops include Oliver Winery (where you can sip classic vinifera to sweet fruity wines in a woody retreat), Turtle Run Winery (which offers frequent live music) and Butler Winery (home of the port-style Blueberry Wine).

A popular stop on the trail is Huber’s Orchard and Winery in Starlight, which offers tours and an inviting loft space where visitors can sample wine, brandy, vodka, gin and whiskey from the on-site distillery. Enjoy nearby Jasper’s rich German heritage when you pair a burger with a blonde ale in the iconic Schnitzelbank Restaurant.

Cities along the Ohio River offer numerous off-the-course opportunities when your round has concluded. Evansville is home to attractions like the USS LST-325 (the last fully operational landing ship tank) and the Dream Car Museum (a tribute to 1950s nostalgia filled with vintage vehicles). Nearby is the Tropicana Evansville Resort, where Texas Hold ‘em, craps and roulette offer high-energy action late into the night on a casino floor dripping with Las Vegas glamor.

The other gaming hotpots in the Ohio River Valley area are Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun and Belterra Casino Resort in Florence. All three offer top-notch entertainment and dining in addition to easy golf access. Belterra, one of Indiana’s largest casinos, features a Tom Fazio-designed course and full-service spa, while The Links at Rising Star Casino Resort is feet away from the Ohio River and the only authentic Scottish Links-style course in the area.

New Albany, just across the Ohio River from Louisville, is home to Floyd County Brewing Company, a gastropub inspired by English taverns (complete with red telephone booth). Staples include the Leprechaun’s Gold Blonde Ale, Arthur of the Britons Red Ale and the Braun Jovi Porter. Another European-style pub experience awaits at Pints & Union, a New Albany Tavern decorated

with exposed wood and Edison lights. You won’t find any TVs here; instead, enjoy a good old-fashioned conversation and a pint.

Farther upstream lies the city of Madison, which attracts visitors with its preserved 19th century architecture, Ohio River cruises and easy access to Clifty Falls State Park. This

dramatic landscape consists of deeply cut gorges and cascading waterfalls that can be viewed from hiking trails of varying difficulty. Housed in a repurposed feed mill, Mad Paddle Brewery in downtown serves crowd-pleasing beers like the Three Turns Session IPA and Wicket Blonde Ale that are best enjoyed on the patio.

Founded in 1946, Old Capital originally featured nine holes and sand greens that required the last player in the group to smooth the sand. Grass greens were installed in 1957 and in 1995, nine additional holes were added, making it a Par 72 championship course. Continuing upgrades to the layout and facilities make it a favorite of Southern Indiana golfers and visitors. Elevation changes, a creek winding throughout the course and abundant trees each offer challenges, but plenty of scenic pleasure. Hole No. 4, the No. 1 handicap for men and women, provides the hardest fairway to hit. Approaches from the left bring green side water into play. Even the green is a challenge with slippery right side hole locations sloping toward the water.

This American-style links design features bent grass greens, rolling fairways, and glittering lakes. In 2018, Golfweek ranked Chariot Run Indiana’s No. 5 Best Course You Can Play. In addition to Golfweek, the course has consistently received awards and accolades since 2014 from Golf Advisor, Readers’ Choice Awards “Gaming and Destinations,” and others. You’ll know how you’re hitting the ball when you reach the No. 1 Handicap, Hole No. 7. Lining the right side of this Par 4 is water, but avoid the trap on the left side of the fairway. Your second shot is slightly uphill. Evade the bunker on the right and in true links style, land short of the green. Visit online and take the full course tour. The Double Eagle Bar & Grill serves great food at affordable prices.
