The history and heritage of Stoke-on-Trent is well-preserved at numerous attractions across the city including Etruria Industrial Museum, and the award-winning Gladstone Pottery Museum, the most complete Victorian pottery factory in the UK, boasting interactive exhibitions and a “Flushed with Pride” tribute to toilets past, present and future! Middleport Pottery, the home of world-renowned Burleigh pottery, is a fantastic visitor attraction where visitors can go behind-the-scenes and learn about the people and events that have shaped the factory over the years. As the last working Victorian pottery in the UK, the site today continues to produce Burleigh pottery using the same traditional handcraft techniques as in the 1880s.

Factory tours are available at the World of Wedgwood, Moorcroft, Middleport Pottery and Emma Bridgewater where you can learn about the skills and craftsmanship that go into producing the world-famous pottery.

The World of Wedgwood, which opened its doors to visitors in July 2015, is a brand new unique visitor experience celebrating the very best of British industrial and design heritage. Experience Wedgwood for the day and see the craftsmen at work on a factory tour, utilising unique artisan skills and techniques honed over 250 years.

Explore the most extensive Wedgwood retail space in the world, offering an unparalleled range of products in the Wedgwood Flagship Store and walk through the Design Studio, an interactive experience demonstrating the unique Wedgwood approach to their specialist design process. The Wedgwood Design Worlds offer visually stunning and unique gallery installations that explore the essence of Wedgwood design philosophy. Relax and indulge yourself with the wide range of dining experiences on offer, from a luxury afternoon tea in the Wedgwood Tea Room to a more informal all day menu in the Dining Hall.

Stoke-on-Trent – which hit the horticultural headlines thirty years ago, by hosting the 1986 National Garden Festival – is now set to take a leading role in one of the most important horticultural celebrations in recent times: the tercentenary of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in 2016.

The Trentham Estate – a leading estate in 18th century Britain, and named by Countryfile magazine as the UK’s “Garden of the Year” in 2015 – became one of Brown’s most celebrated successes, and is now currently involved in one of the biggest parkland projects in Britain, to rediscover Capability’s lost landscape and enhancing it with breath taking contemporary planting on a truly vast scale.

The Dorothy Clive Garden includes a variety of landscaped features such as a woodland garden and waterfall and has a large collection of rhododendrons and azaleas. There is a hillside alpine scree and pool, a 30 metre long laburnum arch, a summer flowering rose walk, vibrant seasonal borders, an edible woodland as well as a diverse collection of unusual plants, shrubs and trees including magnolias and camellias. Discover winter colour in Staffordshire’s only Winter Woodland Garden boasting over 8,000 bulbs.

The Emma Bridgewater factory has a lovely secret - a walled garden just waiting to be discovered. In summer this English country-style garden comes to life with flower beds full of blooms and tasty fruits and vegetables. It’s also home to the chickens who keep the café stocked with the freshest eggs. Take a seat and enjoy the fresh air in this little City Centre haven.

Visit period houses including Ford Green Hall - a 17th century timber-framed farmhouse complete with period garden; and Rode Hall an 18th century house set in Repton landscape with fine furniture and porcelain and regular farmers markets. The garden is transformed by magical swathes of cascading little white flowers in February when it is open for Snowdrop walks.

The new-look gardens at the Trentham Estate have matured into some of the finest in Britain and have seen the contemporary revival of the famous Italian Gardens along with the development of the Rivers of Grass and the adjacent Floral Labyrinth. Whether you’re looking for a garden with peace and quiet, or fun and action for the kids, then Trentham Gardens is the place for you!

Discover the world at Biddulph Grange Garden. This outstanding Victorian garden, which has been named in VisitEngland’s 2016 Top Twenty Best Gardens listing, shows off trees and plants brought from far flung destinations around the globe by the daring plant hunters of the time. A truly unique garden, Biddulph Grange consists of smaller hidden interlinking world themed gardens including an Italian terrace, Chinese garden, Egyptian pyramid, dahlia walk, and a Scottish glen, and was created by Darwin’s contemporary and correspondent James Bateman as an extension of his beliefs and scientific interests.

Enjoy the peace and tranquillity, the colour and the splendour, and explore Stoke-on-Trent’s mesmerising glorious gardens and wonderful parks.
