VISUAL COMPONENTS – NEW THINKING FOR SIMULATION

Visual Components is a leading innovative company providing 3D simulation and visualization to a wide range of users within the manufacturing sector. The whole value chain consisting of both manufacturers, machine builders and equipment suppliers can benefi t from Visual Components’ innovative product family.

The product family covers all phases of the so called digital factory. In today’s manufacturing business it is vital to see the whole process, test different options and build decisions on the results – and Visual Components offers a complete set of software from simulation to confi guration and visualization.

Everybody, including development and application engineers, factory and project engineers, plant managers, marketing personnel and sales staff can make their daily work more effi cient and productive by using Visual Components’ software. This means totally new levels of affordability.

AFFORDABLE AND EASY-TO-USE

With most 3D simulation software, the total cost of ownership is up to ten times higher than with Visual Components’ solution. Conventional software is very complex and requires a substantial investment in skilled operators as well as the purchase of a software license. Training and maintenance is also time-consuming and costly. In the end, only a handful of experts are able to operate or use it.

Now, for a fraction of the cost, Visual Components’ software allows many more people within the company to confi gure layouts and view web based 3D simulation fi les. This means affordability by all means. Even small to medium-sized companies can enter the world of simulation and the large companies can shave millions off their annual simulation budget and get signifi cantly bigger returns on investment.

COMPANY HISTORY

Visual Components was founded in 1999 by a team of simulation experts who saw the opportunity to bring simulation into the mainstream by developing a reusable concept for simulation models. The original founding members included Scott Walter, Jerry Eshbaugh, Mika Anttila, Juha Renfors and Craig Lybeck. Elektrobit Oyj, a listed company on the Finnish stock exchange, invested also in the seed phase of the company’s development.

Visual Components’ initial product offering was a simple to use 3DVideo player that allowed users to see a production line in action on their own laptop. 3DVideo was soon joined by 3DRealize an easy to use sales tool to present new proposals quickly. The software family was completed in 2004 with the release of 3DCreate a simulation development environment for developing new model libraries and applications.

Now after the fi rst six years of operation, Visual Components has a growing reseller network servicing diverse industrial markets and OEM partners in Europe, Australasia, Asia and North America.

PRODUCT FAMILY

Visual Components’ unique product family consists of an application developer’s toolkit and component author, a layout confi gurator, and a free of charge simulation viewer to support different business needs throughout the product life cycle of automation lines and cells.

The comprehensive toolkit included with 3DCreate® is ideal for developers who want to build their own high-performance, fl exible and scalable simulation products for distribution or internal use. In a single package, you gain access to a discrete event simulation engine, a synchronized scene graph, a licensing mechanism and a comprehensive documentation system.

Visual Components’ 3D product family provides tools to package complex automation systems into re-useable simulation components that are lightweight, easily customized and distributed via email. Layered products give access to 3D simulation for a wide user group. Discrete event simulation combined with continuous robotic simulation shows the impact of local optimisation and cell design on overall throughput.

As well as showing the material fl ow through the factory Visual Components’ software is also built to calculate actual production output. It offers interfaces to real controllers to drive the simulation with real machine data and prove-out shop fl oor logics. Application developers can even create helpful 3D diagnostic displays to embed into the control panels of shop fl oor machines.
