Why do we Need Talking Text?

• Students with physical disabilities or visual impairments cannot turn to the next page of a book, skip ahead to find ‘the exciting

bits’ or turn back to re-read a page.

• Their reading development is often delayed, even if they are of normal intelligence.

Students with Visual Impairments

• With Clickr 4, speech and symbols can be added to enhance the text.

• This program eliminates the need to use a mouse which can be difficult to manipulate for these students.

Getting Creative withTalking Stories

Perhaps one of the most exciting activities involved in making talking books is the creation of new stories with pupils.

These stories can be developed using the pupils’ own language and can incorporate their own choices.

This allows those with learning difficulties real access toshared and creative writing.
