Editor’s Note

A CHALLENGING & SUPPORTIVE ACDEMIC ENVIORNMENT Since the genesis of Islamiah College in 1919, our institution has traversed

through several milestones and earned many landmark achievements. In

the recent past, Our College has gained autonomy in 2010 and been

awarded Reaccreditation with ‘A’ grade in January 2014. Of the total

number of 619 Arts & Science Colleges in Tamilnadu merely 75 Colleges

have been accredited by NAAC and our college is one among the elite

group of 22 colleges reaccredited with ‘A’ grade.

The autonomous status is the most deserved one taking into account of

our excellent infrastructure facilities, potential administration and

scholarly strength of our staff members. In fact, we have been accorded

this prestigious status in grand style by proving our class and fulfilling the

requirements much more than stipulated by UGC.

The autonomy has facilitated our institution an unfettered growth when

compared with its erstwhile status of affiliation under Thiruvalluvar

University. It is a great opportunity for us to design our own curriculum in

pace with the recent advancements. The advent of autonomy will also

pave the way for innovative teaching methodology that may result in the

production of skillful and employable students. The Choice based credit

system gives our students more flexibility and freedom.

Our campus is already armored with sophisticated instrumentation

centers- DST-FIST 1 and DST-FIST 2 laboratories funded by the

Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Our library

has the state- of-the-art facilities to have access through almost all the

reputed national and international journals.

The four pillars of Education – Teaching, Learning, Examination and

Evaluation in our College system are refurbished and galvanized by our

recent attainment of autonomy and accreditation. In the backdrop of all

our hectic activities and achievements, we are now all set to confront the

Autonomy review committee with full preparedness. Our mission is

ceaseless, vision is far sighted and we, the people concerned are

indefatigable till reaching the pinnacle of our endeavors.

The Newsletter attracts great importance as it institution. As do in our College, it disseminates all the deeds of our students and staff within and outside the campus. No doubt, this 20th issue will definitely serve its purpose by bringing our academic, research and social activities to the fore thereby justifying our reaccreditation with ‘A’ grade and the grant of autonomy. I take this opportunity to call upon all our teaching and non-teaching staff to regroup to impress upon the members of the forthcoming autonomy review committee.

The growth of our institution is tremendous and sustainable as we witness the laurels being poured on us from all quarters. The Academic experts and dignitaries who visit our college extol our fabulous feats achieved braving our rural limitations. Every issue of the news letter adduces the above facts as this 20th issue is also blazing on the trail of success. I congratulate all our teaching and non-teaching staff and appeal them to hold the reins tight as the visit of the Autonomy review committee is imminent. I also extend my whole hearted thanks to the munificent Management for their unstinted support. With many more facilities and infrastructure development are on the anvil, I strongly believe that our students and staff members will surely rise up to the occasions demanded by the time.

In collaboration with IIT (M), this facility has come in effect from 01st June 2014.

Launching of Islamiah College Research Journal An ISSN numbered research journal consists of Science and Social Science sections will be launched on 28th February 2015 as a part of the National Science Day celebrations. The research scholars and teachers are much interested to contribute their original work for publication.

DST-FIST Sponsored Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre DST-FIST sponsored sophisticated Instrumentation centre has been inaugurated from 23rd November and kept open to research scholars and industries. This centre consists of facilities like Nano Electro Spinning Unit, Electro Chemical Work Station, UV-Vis Spectro Photometers (Solids and Liquids), Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrometer, Gas Chromatography, Auto Analyzer, Ultra Centrifuge, CO2 and BOD Incubators, Microwave Bench X and K band, Pulsed Echo Interferometer, Digital Viscometer etc.

Digital Library and NPTEL e-Learning Video Courses Digital library has been inaugurated and open to students, research scholars and teachers from 23rd November 2014. It consists of NPTEL programme that covers 135+ Video Courses and 126+ Web Courses, and graphical software’s for scholars.

Dr. Major Syed Shahabuddeen, Principal, Islamiah Women’s College and Dr.K.P. Kandasami, Former Registrar of Bharathiar University were appointed as External Academic Auditors for a period of three years.
