having 200 Antioch Nobles and Ladies in attendance as well as dignitaries and Potentates from 14 Temples and Associations join us in this awesome evening! Susan and I were especially touched by having our son and Personal Aide escort us in during the introductions. The orchestra was great and the dance floor was filled the entire time. I have never seen this happen before. The hospitality room, under the eye and help of our Aides and great, great friends of Champaign County Shrine Club was enjoyed by everyone staying at the two hotels. I finally had to run the Bobbies out of the hospitality room at 2am on Sunday morning so I could go to bed. If I didn’t, they would probably still be there! What a party group! I would like to take a line here to personally thank our Chief of Staff, Corey Leggett and Lady Robyn and Illustrious Sir John Bull and Lady Pam for all the inside, outside and behind the scenes work, magic and creativity it took to make ‘Could it Be Magic’ magical! What a team Susan and I have!! April also brought more honors to Antioch. Illustrious Sir Ray Combs was installed as Commander of the International Legion of Honor in Kansas City. It was my great pleasure to be there to honor he and Lady Pat on behalf of Antioch Shrine. What a great and impressive ceremony it was! The Ohio Shrine weekend meeting was informative and our Oriental Guide, Kendall Lawson will give more details in a future issue.

From the PotentateIll. Sir Bret Stahler

Please watch the Crier for parade information. Our first parade will be in my hometown of Bellefontaine. The last time we were there was in 2010 under Illustrious Sir Tom Schoff and before that was 1977 under Illustrious Sir Frank Klugh when he had a full blown Hot Sands Ceremonial at the fairgrounds. Even if we don’t have the Hot Sands any longer, we still need to keep membership in the forethoughts of our minds. Membership is the key to this and every other organization! REPLACE YOURSELF AND WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY MEMBERSHIP PROBLEMS!! Read the Crier for upcoming events that you do not want to miss. If you do, it’s your own fault and your loss!Remember, ‘Together We Can Make Magic Happen’!Yours In the Smile of a Child, I am:

Greetings to All! The old adage of April Showers bring May Flowers may be a bit twisted this year! Every time I look out the window I see a different season, or so it seems. April did bring us some great events at Antioch! With our Stated Meeting, opened and closed in Old Form, produced great information for the present and into the future for the benefit of our beloved Antioch. We honored our Nobles that left upon the Black Camel from January 1st to April 1st and honored the Nobles that have reached the 50 year anniversary of joining the Greatest Fraternity: Shriners International! The Potentate’s Ball was absolutely wonderful and Susan and I were humbly touched and honored by

BOBBIE BITSBy Noble Shannon Zell

ANTIOCHSENIORSBy Noble Bruce Puff, President

Practice and Parade season is here for the Award-Winning Bobbies and their Scat Kittys and that means it’s starting to get busy. Our very own Rev. Matt McFarland, Chaplain, will be performing the Blessing of the Bike Ceremony at UD Arena. This event is open to all of Antioch, so bring any personal or parade vehicle you would like to have blessed. Make plans now to attend our events listed below. For the month of MayMay 6th - Blessing of the Bikes @ 2pm and Practice immediately followingMay 13th - No Practice Mother’s Day. Do something special for your Mom!May 20th - Practice at 2pm May 27th - Practice at 2pmMay 28th - Bellefontaine Memorial Day ParadeAdditional midweek practices TBA. Remember, if you post any Bobbies related stuff on social media, use the hashtags #Antiochbobbies #Antiochshrine #skatkitty #Shriners. Let’s get to the top of the search list on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.Going to Imperial? Daytona is the place to be July 15th – 19th! The Bobbies are planning another strong showing and hope you can be there to root them on at this year’s Imperial events. Not a Bobbie? Would you like to be a part of a great band of brothers and the Most Award-Winning Unit in Antioch? Like to fool around on two wheels and attend up to 14 parades a year? Come join us at any of our events and ask for an application.

The Trivia this month, Who is Erik Weisz? Born 3-24-1874, in Budapest, Hungary, one of seven children, to a Jewish Rabbi and Wife, migrated/moved to Appleton Wisconsin and Passed 10-31-1926. He was known for His use or was into chains and handcuffs. There was a notion that the winter coats would have been put away, as the warm April Showers moved through, but there was snow on the front lawns as we got ready for the Pote’s Ball. Those that missed this event, well, what a “Magical Night”, with a lot of other great activities and functions happening around Antioch Shrine Center. We do know that the days are getting warmer, and the Parade Season is sneaking up on Us. The “The Rag Tops” will be coming off the convertibles, Dune Buggy’s, and Jeeps, and do take a second look around for our Motorcyclist! Seniors meet every Tuesday morning at Antioch, in the Main Dining Room. We start drifting in around 9:30 am., to play a few hands/rounds of cards. The saying, “When We Meet, We Eat”, there is a $1 donation to cover the cost of the fat free doughnuts, and high test cup of joe, plus tea. With the second Tuesday of the month, there is a full “Breakfast Bar”, starting at 9:30 am., with a donation of $4, and bring your wives, girlfriends, and heck, just bring a friend. Erik Weise?, better known as, “Harry Houdini”. He took his stage name from French Magician Jean-Euge’ne Robert-Houdin. Magic does not want to trick you, but make you a “Believer”.

Thanks to all the WB’s that came out to our April meeting. A couple things that are in the works: Soon it will be parade season, and we encourage all WB’s to attend the parades, if we get enough participation, we will start pulling out the trailer. Another exciting event that is happening: The Past Masters Club was asked to participate in the Ohio/Indiana/Michigan All Degree day, and confer the 2nd section of the MM degree. This is an honor to be considered, and represent the Grand Lodge of Ohio. We currently have about a dozen members that have committed to helping, but we need more. Please let our Director, WB Pinney, know your availability. This will be Sat. Nov 3rd in Indianapolis. A great trip for the Club. The club voted to have a raffle table, at the Sept. Sportsman raffle, and will be selling tickets to a sports related item that day. Also, if you are selling tickets to the Sportsman Raffle, please be sure to put the Past Master’s Club name on the bottom of ticket, and the club will get a $1 for every ticket sold. Next meeting will be May 3rd, before we go dark for parade season, and meet at the Parades. Please keep our members having health issue in your prayers. If your lodge needs help with MM degree, please contact the Past Master’s club. Make sure to Support your Lodge and Antioch.

FROM THEORIENTAL GUIDEBy Noble J. Kendall Lawson It is so hard to believe that the 2018 Antioch Parade Season is al-most here. Lady Jennifer and I are very excited about this journey that we have started. Being the Antioch OG means the world to me. The faith and trust that you as Nobles have put in me makes me feel great inside. I will NOT let you down. I have had numerous conversa-tions with our Nobles and it is plain to see that the road is still bumpy as we work to make Antioch the number one Temple in Shrinedom again. There are always growing pains when there are changes being made. The number one conversation that I have had is that the prices are too high for events. While I do agree that the prices are higher than before there must be an understanding that these prices have not changed in a very long time. I am glad to see that it is not discouraging to all of you since we have had large turnouts for all of the events so far this year. Growing pains are a necessity for change to happen. The way we have always done it does not necessarily continue to work. We must try differ-ent things and continually evolve to remain relevant. The way we did it 100 years ago is not the way we did it 50 years ago and so on. Please continue to support Antioch as we strive to move forward. I certainly do not want to see Antioch fail and with your assistance, IT WILL NOT. The way Circuses are changing is an ex-ample of this. We have relied on these events for over 75 years to support our Temple. When Ringling Brothers closed their doors it was a quiet re-minder of what happens when we do not change. We must work together to support these changes so Antioch will be here in the very distant future. No one likes change but in most cases it is necessary. Let’s join together and work towards OUR future. May God Bless you, your family and our Antioch for the future of OUR organization!

Shriners on the Mend Ill. Sir Ben Hardin has returned home. He continues to receive twice weekly therapy and those have provided improvement in his condition. As a result he was able to attend Easter Sunday service at his church. Phone H 949-8833 C 470-9236 John Buzard is still recovering at home and will be starting with a new specialist this week. H 271-5289 Richard Wagner remains in the Stonespring facility in Butler township. His recovery has been slow but some progress has been made. Stonespring 4000 Hills Blvd. Dayton, Oh 45414. C 361-3190 A phone call, a card or letter, better yet a personal visit would cheer these members and maybe speed them in their recovery.

FROM THEVISITATION CHAPLAINBy Noble Tom Best

Message from your Assistant Rabban, Todd Rider. While attending Assistant Rabban School this year it was suggested by an Imperial Officer to post this Article from Imperial Bylaws July 2017 release, this is part 1 Principles of the Order. Next month I will post the remainder of this Article which is Code of Ethics. I think we should all have a refresher on this as a reminder of who we are and where we started in our masonic journey.

ARTICLE 10Principles of the Order and Ethics

§ 210.1 Brotherhood. Shriners are brothers. We share a common creed and common goals and values. Add. 1991 § 210.2 Creed. Shriners believe in God and that He created man to serve His purposes, among which is service to others in His name. We believe that care for the less fortunate, especially children who suffer from burns and crippling diseases, is our institutional calling. We are patriots, each willing to serve his country with fidelity and courage. We cherish independence under law and freedom with responsibility. We honor family. We respect our parents, wives and children. We should instill in our children the tenets of this creed and the heritage from which it emanates. As individuals we pledge ourselves to integrity, virtue and nobility of character. Our intentions will be honorable, our relations will be trustworthy and our spirits forgiving of each other. As brothers we offer each other fraternal affection and respect. Together we will support each other in adherence to this creed, so that we and our communities will be the better because of our fraternity and its principles. As Shriners we look beyond ourselves to serve the needs of others, especially children who cannot help themselves. We believe Shriners Hospitals for Children to be the worlds greatest philanthropy, and we covenant with each other to support its “temples of mercy” with spirit, time, talent and means.

FROM THEASSISTANT RABBANBy Noble Todd Rider. Asst. Rabban

Add. 1991 § 210.3 Goals. The goals of the Order are purely fraternal and philanthropic. Add. 1991 § 210.4 Values. (a) The Shrine is a distinctly private organization. (b) Its members cherish their right to privacy, freedom of expressive association and freedom of intimate association. (c) Its members have control over the internal governance of the Order. (d) Their temples are not to be operated for profit. (e) Membership in the Order may not be used to further business, political or sectarian ends. Add. 1991 § 210.5 Selectivity. Nobles are to be recruited and selected from candiidates who believe in the creed, goals and values of the Order. These common beliefs will foster harmony in our internal affairs and in all our undertakings. Add. 1991§ 210.6 Obligation. All Nobles must abide by the principles of the Order as set forth in the preceding sections of this Article. Add. 1991

Warren CountySHRINE CLUBBy Craig Harris, President

ANTIOCHGUN CLUBBy Noble Tom Hail The meeting we had at Antioch when the Gun Club’s guest speaker was Attorney Joe Stadnicar was an overwhelming success. There were over 60 members and guests who came to hear his presentation of updated Ohio concealed carry laws and self defense protocol. Our Annie Oakleys out-did themselves for the refreshments with pulled pork, homemade potato salad, cole slaw and the many desserts including Lady Margaret’s award-winning brownies.

Spring is here, but apparently no one told Mother Nature. It’s time to get involved in YOUR Warren Co. Shrine Club! Our next meeting will be May 10 @6:30 pm. It will be at the Broadway Barrelhouse in Lebanon. Ladies are welcome! We will be ordering off the menu, and a short meeting. Since we are having less meetings this year, doesn’t mean we aren’t active. The Officers have been reaching out to business’ that have Hospital plaques, and getting donations to hospital and plaques updated. If you know of a business that has a plaque, please let us know so we can get with the business. I have been busy looking into some new events that will help raise money for Shriner’sHospital also, more once details evolve. Another thing on the horizon, is Antioch’s Sportsman raffle! Please buy a ticket, or 2, or whatever you want. This will be held at Greene Co Fairgrounds. See the Crier for details. Plus if selling tickets please put the club name on it, as $1 will go to club. Plus we have opportunity to also have a raffle table the day of raffle. To raise money for our club. This will be new business when we meet. Please come out the 10th and bring a Noble. Let’s have a crowd. Please RSVP if coming, so I can let restaurant know.

Antioch Travelers Camping Club

Our Break Out Camping at Natural Springs Resort in New Paris, Ohio was a great success with the Tri-State Traveliers of Cincinnati. Murat RV Camping Club of Indianapolis along with Antioch Shrine Camping Club. We had members from the Divan of Murat Shrine Center, Members from the Antioch Shrine Center And Past Potentate from Syrian Shrine from Cincinnati. Thursday evening we went to Texas Road house for a steak dinner. On Friday evening Dinner at Tarum Shrine Club in Richmond, Indiana. We had fried chicken, fried hot chicken and baked chicken along with a vegatable, salad, and dessert. Saturday evening dinner was at the Natural Springs Resort Club House with ham and beans. The weather wasn’t the best, however we had close to 40 units there. Several of us will be going to Bardstown, Kentucky on the 17, 18, 19 and 20th of May. We will be staying at the White Acres Camp Ground close to Bardstown. We will tour on Friday the Bourbon Trail which entails tours of the 5 Distilleries and tasting Bourbon on Friday, and golfing on Saturday. We would love to have more campers join us. If you would like to go with us please call me Ben Larick @937-247-4515 by the 10th of May.

On a sad note, we held a moment of silence for club member Duane Bayman who had passed away. He was an avid supporter of the Gun Club, attending almost all the meetings and scheduled shoots. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his Lady Mary (who was present for the meeting) and we welcome her to future Gun Club functions. The Antioch pocket calendar had a miss-print of going to VRA for this month’s meeting. Nope, it is Antioch’s month and we meet there Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00pm. President Free extends an invitation to any Shriner and his Lady to drop by one of our meetings.

CLASSICCARBy Jim Matthews, Director Our next meeting will be held on May 8th at 7:00pm in the Past Potentate’s room. Some of the items we will be discussing are ads for the August car show program, other items related to the car show, and our September picnic. We are still soliciting business card ads for our car show program – please bring the ads and money for ads that you have already sold to the meeting. The first parade of the year will be on Memorial Day in Bellefontaine – more information about the parade will be available at our May meeting or in the Crier. We are always looking for new members. If you know of any Noble that may be interested in joining our Unit, please invite them to the May meeting, Car Safety Tip: While it’s always a good idea to have a phone with you in case of a breakdown or other auto emergency, keep distractions out of sight while driving. Switch your phone to silent, put it in airplane mode or turn it off completely before you enter your vehicle.

May is finally here and it’s time once again for our annual Imperial Visitation, this year we will be having it a little later than in previous years and on a different night. Our Imperial Maharanee, Louise Idleman and Imperial Board Members will be here on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. This visit will replace our Thursday, June 28th meeting. As in previous years we will be having a dinner following our 7:00pm meeting so please mark your calendars for this annual visit. I also want to thank everyone who helped with the selling of the raffle tickets for the Dayton Dragons Suite and want to say congratulations to the winner. Thanks to everyone for your support of Elissa and have a great month!

We in the Motor Corps want to express our appreciation for our President, Noble Bill Nicholoson’s leadership and outstanding efforts in support of numerous functions within the Antioch Shine. His participation with other units and support of their functions, in addition to his commitment in helping them, gives the Corps the reputation as a can do outfit and a unit who achieves goals. We are proud when the Potentate recognizes Bill as the one person that has sold more tickets for the upcoming Sportsman Raffle this fall than all other Antioch Nobles. Not only do Bill’s efforts help the Antioch Shrine, but are very beneficial to our unit since we receive one dollar for each ticket sold. We don’t know how, but Bill manages to serve as president of the Motor Corps, drive the ambulance van, participate in the Senior Tuesday morning activities by cooking and other actions and still has time to visit the Veterans Hospital on a regular basis. Thanks a lot Bill for all of your efforts. `Once again all Nobles are reminded that proof of insurance is required if you are to parade with a motorized vehicle and all Nobles who plan to drive need to complete the required Antioch insurance form. This data is required before our first parade this month. Let’s start this month with a great parade. See you all at Bellefontaine.

PROVOSTGUARDBy Noble Tom Hail The month of May brings many events; the National Day of Prayer, Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day to name a few. The day we Provost Guard are focused on is Monday, May the 28th, our first Potentate call Parade. It will be in Bellefontaine and we all report to the Logan County Fairgrounds. Noble Peter Dyer and his Lady Ruth Ann (makers-of-staging-area-maps) have been hard at work drawing up a new overview of Bellefontaine for our Shrine Parade units. As in the past, the maps will be distributed to arriving units to assist in their parking at a strategic place to afford an easy pullout onto the parade route. Our “first” Wednesday of the month dinner/meeting will be altered a bit for May. We are gathering at the usual place, Rib House in Vandalia at 6:00pm on May the 9th - the “second” Wednesday. We pray for God to watch over the many patients in our Shriners Hospitals for Children and may God bless America.

We’uns cum outer the holler on a snowy nite in April to our Monthly meetin’. We had to hear a earful of stoopid stories from our leader cause he’d Sic his old black crow on us if’n we didn’t pay him mind. The possum queen gave us another test on our famly Histry and we even got them thar scratch offs if’n we know who our cuzzins was. We only had 3 winners. After a gud Supper of real fur south of the border vittles we had a partay to bring in 7 hillbilly cuzs and 7 gals to our clan. One of our gals brung her baby girl

with her and we blessed her into our clan for future hillbilliology status. We had a gud meetin’ and gud fud. Come next month if you can and we guarrentee you will be happy you Did. First Friday of the month. Bring a side or dessert to share.
