Seventy-nine years ago, the Aeroplane Inn was the site of an important moment in American music history, the professional debut of jazz great, Preston Love. MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL CITY OF CRESCENT COUNCIL MEETING Dec 15, 2014...THE CRESCENT CITY COUNCIL met in special session in the Crescent Community Hall at 6:00pm pursuant to the law. Mayor Brian Shea called the meeting to order. The following Council members were present: Hildreth, Jacobsen, Anderson, Morgan, Beck. Also in attendance, City Atty. Joe Thornton. OLSSON & ASSOC/JASON CRAIG discussed with the Council an amendment on Olsson charges. They spent considerable more time out in the field than was expected and so the field time had to be increased. The amendment calls for $35,000.00 but Jason doesn’t feel that it will reach that. Final amount will depend on how much time is spent with FEMA going over his paperwork. As they (FEMA) have been kept up to date throughout the project he doesn’t feel they will take too long looking over the paperwork. MOTION BY ANDERSON, seconded by Beck to approve the amendment with the cap amount. RESOLUTION # 8 TO FIX A DATE FOR PUBLIC HEARING ON SEWER REVENUE LOAN AGREEMENT. Mayor’s Corner Well the holidays are over and we are well into winter. I hate the cold winter! I received several calls to ask where our holiday lights were this year. In the past Dale Dilts and some of the Optimist mem-bers had volunteered to put them up and take them down, that was very generous of them. Since that time we have not had any decorations put up. I have been thinking that if we could get 2 or 3 nice decorations to install close to the firebarn/city office. That way we could make it look festive and make it a little easier to put up and take down. If you want to volunteer to help please contact me and we will plan this out. We have a new sign that is going to be put together in the spring. It will be by the old well pump house, it will replace the damaged ‘Crescent’ sign. A lot of small projects done by volunteers can make a big difference in our community. Feel free to step up and help, it can do your heart good. —Happy 2015, Brian Shea

While we mourn the loss of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Ron Rohatsch, we also wanted to share a short story about him with the community that welcomed him as a resident and then as a business owner. Ron and Nancy (Rohatsch, not Reagan, as they liked to say) were married in 1965, welcomed their sons, Larry and Brian, over the next three years, and built their home in order to move out to the farm, that is now a Crescent address, in 1979. Along with their son, Larry and his wife, Sheila, they opened the Loess Hills Vineyard and Winery in Crescent in 2006. Ron worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 39 years where he never met a stranger. He loved to talk to people and rarely forgot a name or a story that he was told. He believed in doing what was right and helped defend many co-workers in his thirteen years as the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers union, sometimes to his own detriment. Ron had a great sense of humor, in fact that is one of the main reasons why Nancy first started to date him – she says that he had a way of making you laugh even when you were mad at him! He was always willing to try something new, especially if it was a fun adventure. He loved doing just about anything outdoors – gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, and grape growing. In fact, he even tried a motorcycle ride with our current mayor, Brian Shea, a few years ago...what a trip for both of them! Larry and Brian are both wonderful cooks, and they come by that talent naturally through their father. They all have a way of just throwing a dish together based upon ideas and taste, and it always comes out yummy...of course, they rarely write anything down or measure, so duplication is a bit of a problem. If you have been to the winery for any of the live music or wine trail events, you have likely tasted some of Ron and Larry’s efforts.

In Loving Memory of Ron RohatschSubmitted by Larry & Sheila Rohatsch

There were few things that brought Ron more joy than spending time with his grandchildren. Brian and Jackie

gave him his first three grandchildren - he was so proud of the dance performances that Lynsey and Megan excelled in, and his fellow sports fanatic, Mason, has tried out most everything available to him – baseball, football, basketball, and wrestling. Ron rarely missed an activity or game. Larry and Sheila gave him his youngest

granddaughter, Aubrey, just four years ago and though he was ill for most of her life, she always knew just the right

thing to get her Poppy moving and laughing. We lost this vital member of our family on December 3, 2014. We will miss him so much, but we know that he will remain in our memories and our hearts.

To a small child, the perfect granddad is unafraid of big dogs and fierce storms

but absolutely terrified of the word “boo.” —Robert Brault

Make lemon water! Adding lemon to water not only quenches thirst better than any other beverage, but it also nourishes our body with vitamins, minerals and trace elements which we absolutely need. Lemon with water can be considered the best natural energy booster. When we wake up in the morning, our bodily tissues are dehydrated and are in need of water to push out toxins and rejuvenate the cells. In other words, this homemade “lemonade” helps eliminate internal toxins, regulating proper kidney and digestive tract functions by forcing them to work as smoothly as possible. How and when to drink water with lemon: For this purpose, use warm purified or spring water. Take half a cup of warm water without sugar and squeeze in there at least half of lemon or lime. Better to use a special juicer (to get the most juice with minimal effort). You can also use lemon essential oil. You need to drink water with lemon first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Some recommend a drink of water one hour before meals for maximum results. 18 Reasons To Start Your Day With Water and Lemon: 1. Water with lemon provides the body with electrolytes which hydrate your body. Lemons contain a good amount of electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. 2. Water with lemon is good for the joints, reducing pain in the joints and muscles. 3. Warm water with lemon helps digestion as lemon contains citric acid. It interacts with other enzymes and acids which easily stimulate the secretion of gastric juice and digestion. 4. The liver produces more enzymes from water with lemon than from any other food. It helps cleanse the liver by stimulating it to release toxins. 5. Water with lemon helps fight infections of the respiratory tract, sore throats and inflammation of the tonsils. This is due to the anti-inflammatory properties of lemon. 6. Warm water with lemon helps regulate natural bowel movement. 7. Water with lemon is indispensable for the normal work of metabolism. Since lemon is a powerful antioxidant, it protects the body from free radicals and

strengthens the immune system. 8. Water with lemon aids in proper functioning of the nervous system (as lemon has a high content of potassium). Depression and anxiety are often the result of low levels of potassium in the blood. The nervous system needs a sufficient amount of potassium to ensure sustainable signals to the heart. 9. Water with lemon cleanses blood, blood vessels and arteries. 10. Water with lemon can help lower blood pressure. A daily intake of one lemon can reduce high blood pressure by 10%. 11. Water with lemon creates an alkalizing effect in the body. Even if you drink it immediately before a meal, it can help your body maintain a higher level of pH. The higher the pH, the more your body is able to fight diseases. 12. Water with lemon is good for the skin. Vitamin C in lemon, improves our skin by rejuvenating the body. Drinking water with lemon regularly (every morning) will improve the condition of your skin. 13. Water with lemon is beneficial for pregnant women. Since lemons are loaded with Vitamin C, it acts as an adaptogen helping the body cope with viruses such as colds. Furthermore, Vitamin C helps the formation of bone tissue of the unborn baby. At the same time, due to the high content of potassium, a mixture of water with lemon helps forming cells of the brain and nervous system of the baby. 14. Water with lemon relieves heartburn. For this, mix a teaspoon of lemon juice in half a glass of water. 15. Water with lemon helps dissolve gallstones, kidney stones, pancreatic stones, and calcium deposits. 16. Water with lemon helps with weight loss. Lemons contain pectin fiber, which helps suppress hunger cravings. Studies have proven people with a better alkaline diet have lost weight faster. 17. Water with lemon helps with tooth pain and gingivitis. 18. Water with lemon prevents cancer. This is due to the fact that lemons are a highly alkaline food. Multiple studies have found that cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline environment.
