For a very important date. No time to say hello, goodbye. I’m late. I’m late. I’m late.” What an appropriate quote from the White Rabbit character (Alice in Wonderland), given the theme of this year’s county fair and my tardiness in submitting my president’s message for the newsletter. With the ending of the school year, graduations, baby showers, weddings, retirement parties, visitors and everything else that’s going on, it really is time to pull out and check what’s on our calendars for this month. The SDP National Convention starts next week in our own backyard and the SD County fair starts this weekend (June 3 rd ). I hope you are able to pencil in some time to visit one or both of those events. Our next paint-in will be in July with Sandy Garcia, leaving you enough time to find something cool to paint on. Looking back quickly, I’d like to thank Lori Hillstead for her wonderful Baltimore Oriole class. I/we always appre- ciate Lori’s low key, low stress teaching approach. There were lots of quiet moments, but we were all breathing, and no one freaked out about painting bird feathers or eye- balls. Those are all good things. Thank you so much, Lori. We look forward to our next class with you. Lastly, I want to thank all of you who are wonderful enough to paint something and donate it to our monthly raffle. Please keep your donations coming, and please sign your name so we know who you are and can thank you personally. I was thrilled to come home with a beautiful piece last month but am not quite sure who painted it. Thanks to all of you who do so much to help out our chapter. See you at the July paint in. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hi Ladies, “I’m late. I’m late. For a very important date. No time to

say hello, goodbye. I’m late. I’m late. I’m late.” What an appropriate quote from the White Rabbit character (Alice in Wonderland), given the theme of this year’s county fair

and my tardiness in submitting my president’s message for the newsletter. With the ending of the school year, graduations, baby showers, weddings, retirement parties, visitors and everything else that’s going on, it really is time

to pull out and check what’s on our calendars for this month. The SDP National Convention starts next week in our own backyard and the SD County fair starts this weekend (June 3rd). I hope you are able to pencil in some

time to visit one or both of those events. Our next paint-in will be in July with Sandy Garcia, leaving you enough time to find something cool to paint on.

Looking back quickly, I’d like to thank Lori Hillstead for her wonderful Baltimore Oriole class. I/we always appre-ciate Lori’s low key, low stress teaching approach. There were lots of quiet moments, but we were all breathing, and

no one freaked out about painting bird feathers or eye-balls. Those are all good things. Thank you so much, Lori. We look forward to our next class with you.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you who are wonderful enough to paint something and donate it to our monthly raffle. Please keep your donations coming, and please sign your name so we know who you are and can thank you

personally. I was thrilled to come home with a beautiful piece last month but am not quite sure who painted it.

Thanks to all of you who do so much to help out our chapter. See you at the July paint in.

News from 1st Vice Presidents (Programs)

June - SDP National Convention. June 6-11 at the Town and Country Hotel.

July 9th - “Poseidon” with Sandy Garcia The design is 11” x 11”. It was originally done on slate with Patio Paint, but Sandy has also painted it on a round Tin piece. The slate has a little “tooth” that is important to this piece, however, if you cannot find slate then wood, canvas or tin would work. You would have to create “tooth” by rolling the paint on your surface until it is almost dry. In this case, do NOT use Patio Paint, use your regular acrylics. Also, there is a product by Rust-Oleum called Fine Textured Finish that could be sprayed on wood or metal only that gives a nice corrosive finish before painting. It comes in colors so pick a neutral shade like beige. Those members who have signed up and paid for the July class are: Charlene Butler, Jeanne Robert, Sheila Elliott, Leslie Pilcher, Teri Hayes, Charlotte Hicks, Linda Silvasy, Roxanne Walker, Cynthia Smith, Diane Jensen, Jan McCracken, Jan Johnson, Ramona Jacobs, Sue Bond (Marilyn), Sharon Carlson, Karen Krause, Kenna Perrin and Renee Molloy. If you signed up but have not paid please send in your check so we can get the prep directions to you.

Aug 13th - " Antique Vase on Metal Magnetic Board “ with Lori Hillstead The piece is approximately 141/2” x 141/2”. The board is $12.00 which includes 4 magnets. Lori brought 25 boards to the May Paint In and we only have 2 left. For those of you who are attending this class, “we” will collect the $5.00 for her packet that she will bring with her. The packet includes: Scrapbook papers, red var-iegated leafing, adhesive, 1/4” double sided tape. There will also be stamps, stamp pad, and stencils provided to use in class. Those members who have signed up and paid for the Aug class are: Charlene Butler, Jeanne Robert, Candy Sciarretta, Neva Anderson, Cheryl Powell, Renee Molloy, Sheila Elliott, Cynthia Megill, Yvette Dorais, Kenna Perrin, Leslie Pilcher, Charlotte Hicks, Linda Silvasy, Roxanne Walker, Linda Camp, Cynthia Smith, Lorraine Baumann and Kathy Steffel. And again…if you signed up but have not paid please send in your check so we can get the prep directions to you.

Sept 10th - “Boo Halloween Shirt” with Ramona Jacobs The surface: Shirt of your choice but 50% cotton and 50% polyester blend is recommended.

Happy Happy June! The Summer Solstice is upon us, and we send out the best of wishes to our four birthday girls this month: Sandra Miller, Pam Myers, Cynthia Megill, and Donna Johnson.

June By Edgar Albert Guest

June is here, the month of roses, month of brides and month of bees, Weaving garlands for our lassies, whispering love songs in the trees, Painting scenes of gorgeous splendor, canvases no man could brush, Changing scenes from early morning till the sunset’s crimson flush. June is here, the month of blossoms, month of roses white and red, Wet with dew and perfume-laden, nodding wheresoe’er we tread; Come the bees to gather honey, all the lazy afternoon; Flowers and lassies, men and meadows, love alike the month of June. Month of love and month of sunshine, month of happiness and song, Month that cheers the sad wayfarer as he plods the road along; Spreading out a velvet carpet, green and yellow, for his feet, And affording for his rest hours many a cool and sweet retreat. Please remember to let me know whenever one of our members needs some sun-

shine: [email protected].

Sincerely, Teri Hayes

Sales have been kinda slow the last few months. In July, you can peruse through a new selection of books and pattern packets. Thank yous to chapter firend, Glenda Brack for many nice hard-cover books. And to Pacific Coast Artists who sent a large bag of wood to us. Wood, books, etc. that doesn’t sell after three exposures or so is given to teachers who teach with community groups. Happy June shopping at the SDP Convention!

San Diego County Fair 2016 (a.k.a. Del Mar Fair):

Come support your PHP and Brush Whacker friends and visit the Home and Hobby exhibits at the fair (June 3-July 4th). Our chapters have joined together to increase the number of sub-missions in the decorative arts competition and to show people how fun painting can be. We will have a shared demonstration booth on July 2 & 3 with make-it take-its on little wooden

boxes. Our chapter is proud to return as an award sponsor this year. Linda Silvasy walked away with most of the prizes last year. Let’s see what this year brings, and please think about submitting one of your own painted pieces for next year. Parking can be tight and costs $10.00/car at the fair-grounds lot but you can take a shuttle for free from off-site lots at Horse Park Equestrian Center (all days), Torrey Pines High School (weekends, and some week days), and Mira Costa College, San Elijo Campus (weekends only). See the website www.sdfair.com for additional info and details.
