Dear Fellow Congregants,
Over the past few months, several congregants asked me to summarize the many ways they can fi nancially support Temple Chai. Following is a summary of our fundraising programs, both large and small.
Perhaps nothing is more eff ec ve than paying membership dues, Religious School tui on, B’nai Mitzvah fees, and Early Childhood Center tui on on a regular basis when due. Whether you prefer to pay annually or monthly, regular payment helps the synagogue meet its obliga ons, the largest of which are salaries, our mortgage and u li es.
Membership dues and fees cover only a por on of our budget. Annual giving, which consists of the Rabbi’s Circle and Chai Giving programs, is vital to the fi nancial viability of Temple Chai. I ask all congregants to par cipate, at whatever level you are fi nancially able to. The Rabbi’s Circle and Chai Giving support all aspects of Temple Chai’s opera on, including outstanding programming and ensuring that all who want to be part of our community can par cipate. There is s ll me to join Rabbi’s Circle for this year.
Our Gala is our biggest fundraising event each year. This January, we will be honoring Lory & Ron Fischler and Amy & Alan Isaacson for their many years of dedica on to Temple Chai. You can help ensure the Gala’s success by a ending on January 28th. It will be a fabulous evening. You can also par cipate in the silent and live auc ons, the Golf tournament on January 29th, donate items for auc on, and sponsor an ad in the journal.
Hosted Par es are back at Temple Chai this year! Sponsor or a end a party, or do both. This is an easy way to help our synagogue, meet new people and have fun! Par es can be of any theme, style or price.
I am also very pleased to introduce a new fundraising opportunity for the Temple through Amazon. If you shop at Amazon, use Amazon Smile. Simply log in through the Amazon Smile website, smile.amazon.com, and specify Temple Chai as your charity. Amazon will donate 0.5% of all qualifying purchases to Temple Chai at no addi onal cost to you. It could not be easier to support your congrega on!
Our Scrip program allows you to purchase gi cards through Temple Chai and a percentage of the sale is given to the synagogue. There is no addi onal cost to you. Gi cards are available at the synagogue, or through the new website shopwithscrip.com. By purchasing on the website, you will receive an online or printable coupon that can be used immediately.
The Fry’s program has been in place at Temple Chai for several years. If you have a Fry’s Rewards card, logon to their website (frysfood.com) and designate Temple Chai as your charity. A por on of your purchases will be donated to Temple Chai each quarter.
Lastly, are you par cipa ng in the Life & Legacy program? It’s easy to make bequests to Temple Chai to ensure that future genera ons can enjoy the special community we have today.
These are just a few of the ways you can help Temple Chai achieve fi nancial stability. A strong synagogue depends upon your generosity.

Just 3 Things (J3T) provides food for youth transi oning out of the foster care system. The J3T Food Pantry is a program of Jewish Family and Children’s Services, where youth are taught to become self-suffi cient
by helping them obtain a GED, fi nd a job and locate an apartment.
A J3T bin is conveniently located by the doors of the Small Sanctuary at Temple Chai.

The Tree of LifeTrees are important to our tradi on. Leaves for this tree may be purchased for $180 to honor a person or a family, to celebrate an anniversary, friendship, birth, wedding, a bar/bat mitzvah, or in memory of a loved one.
Memorial PlaquesA memorial plaque is a wonderful way to honor the memory of a loved one. The cost for a Memorial Plaque is $360 for Temple Chai members and $500 for non-members.

Why are leather shoes not worn by the mourner during
Shiva?
The Torah records that the prophet Ezekiel was told to
remove his shoes while he was mourning. Wearing soft shoes or slippers during Shiva is symbolic of the mourner’s disregard for
vanity and comfort, and a display of honor for the deceased. Shoes made of other materials may be
worn.
