It's that time of year again! Load up on your baking supplies, warm up your ovens and start pre-paring for a baking marathon! It’s almost time for the 18th Annual Airmen’s Cookie Drive! The purpose of the Airmen's Cookie Drive is to provide holiday cheer for the unaccompanied Air-men at WPAFB in the form of homemade baked goods. The Airmen's Annual Cookie Drive is not limited to just Air Force personnel, we also include Marines, Army and Navy Detachments as-signed to WPAFB.

The Cookie Drive will be held on December 5 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm. Volunteers are needed to donate cookies and also to work at various drop-off locations around the base. Drop off loca-tions are: WPAFB USO from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm; Area B Gym from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.; the Prairies Chapel from 7:00 am to 9:00 am; and the main NASIC building by Starbucks from 7:00 am to 9:00 am.

All types of cookies are needed. Please deliver cookies in disposable containers. No containers will be saved. Please note: if you bake/donate any cookies that are allergy or gluten free, please make a note on top so they can be sorted properly.

Anyone and everyone with base access may volunteer. Volunteers under the age of 15 must be ac-companied an adult. By request, letters and signed forms can be written to credit volunteers for their hours. To volunteer, sign up at https://wrightpattesc.weebly.com/cookie-drive.html or search for the “18th Annual Airmen Cookie Drive” page on Facebook.

THE WRIGHT WORD PAGE 4 August 2018

Dear WPOSC members:

The Executive Board is sorry to announce the resignation of our President, Cassandra Picchi. She resigned October 6, 2018 after much consideration and we appreciate her contributions and leadership over the sum-mer and early Fall. Cassandra continues her membership in the WPOSC and will still bring her positive ener-gy as a military spouse.

Our Parliamentarian, Erica Baker has also resigned her position recently. We appreciate Erica’s contributions as well.

We wanted our members to be aware of these developments but also to rest assured that the Executive Board is running smoothly with the 1st Vice and 2nd Vice Presidents assuming any Presidential tasks as need-ed. Anyone interested in either position is Welcome to reach out to the 1st VP, Leslie Impastato.

We are also seeking a Scholarships Chair to kick off preparations for Spring WPOSC Scholarship Com-mittee submissions from military spouses and graduating high school seniors.

The most important message we want to share is that these new leadership vacancies are just part of mili-tary life and culture – change is expected in this lifestyle and military spouses are great at adapting. The Exec-utive Board is full of experienced military spouses’ who adapt and move forward.

The WPOSC is full speed ahead with Activities and events.

Our October 11, 2018 Pizza & Pictionary Social was a success with several guests who attended to check out what the WPOSC has to offer. The ISG meeting on Friday, October 5, 2018 had 61 people attend includ-ing not only international spouses stationed at WPAFB but many of our own WPOSC members, too. The ISG is always planning fun meetings and trips – check out the ISG’s fb feed for more info. Open to all WPOSC members.

Our Tea Group is a hit, thank you, Tamera Vanden Bos, to for starting this wonderful new addition to the Activities available to our members.

The Holiday season is around the corner and we have several big events to look forward to.

*Our November 2018 social at Carillon Park has filled up fast with RSVPs.

*The annual WPOSC Holiday Brunch is scheduled December 13, 2018 at the WP Club. The White Ele-

phant gift exchange theme is “Favorite Holiday Movies”. Bring a gift ($10 or less) representing or

inspired by your favorite holiday movie - can't wait to see what our members find to share.

*Planning for the Airman’s Cookie Drive is underway. This is a joint venture between the WP Enlisted Spouses’ Club and the WPOSC. We work together to plan and prepare donations of cookies for single Airmen for the holiday season. Thousands of cookies are distributed in December to bring holiday cheer to our service members. Thank you to Lorraine Bonnavita, one of our newest members, for stepping up to Chair this event with the WPESC. Please look out for more info in the newsletter and through the fb and email about opportunities to donate backed goods and volunteer for packing and distributing cookies.

Many thanks for your membership and contributions to the WPOSC. We always appreciate your ideas, sug-gestions and feedback about how to make this the best organization possible.

Please use the new Comments & Suggestions feature on the WPOSC main webpage to give us your feedback.

Happy Fall to all from around the World!

ISG members include American and International spouses of all ranks of military and Civil Servants at Wright-Patterson AFB. Spouses, along with their children and other family members, are welcome at our meetings, which are held on the first Friday of the month at Chapel 3 in the Prairies Housing: 6568 Chapel Lane, Riverside, OH 45433-6003. (Go left to park behind the church or go right to park across the street from the church.).

WE ARE UPDATING OUR EMAILS AND MEMBERSHIP ROSTER.

IF YOU’D LIKE TO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE EMAIL UPDATES AND STAY CONNECTED ON FA-CEBOOK, PLEASE COMPLETE THE ISG MEMBERSHIP FORM.

Our October 5th meeting had a Fall theme with many members dressed appropriate for the occasion. We had much laughter and a cou-ple of fun games. We held a candy guessing game for a jar of Hallow-een candy. And the Ring Toss on the Witch’s Hat was another winner game where players took turns wearing the hats as the rings kept flying toward them!!!! 61 members and children attended!

Our October 16th outing to visit The Westcott House, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed prairie-style house was very informative and enjoyed by all 25 members in attendance! We learned about Frank Lloyd Wright’s life, interests, gardens and homes/furnishings design style.

The 2018 ISG Scholarship application will be uploaded on the website in November for eligible members to download, view and apply. If you have any questions please contact us at [email protected].

Our November 2nd meeting will be our Traditional Thanksgiving luncheon with international side dishes. Everyone is welcome to join us and give THANKS! The possibilities are endless and should give inspiration for the December 6th program, Decorating Antiques for the Holidays. Rich talked to us in the past about Carnival Glass so he is very knowl-edgeable about antiques.

As 2018 is the 60th anniversary of the Societé of Antiques Collectors, we can’t let the year pass without a celebration. So, come for a very interesting program, a good luncheon and meaningful comradery. Bring a friend and remember, our door prizes are always antiques.

Chocolate and coffee are two of my favorite things, so let’s meet for both at Winans Fine Chocolate and Coffees on Monday, Novem-ber 5th , at the Far Hills location in Dayton, 10 a.m.

11 am at the Hope Hotel where Sue Craven will review the book The Time Traveler’s Guide to Restoration Britain by Ian Morti-mer.

Imagine you could see the smiles of the people mentioned in Samuel Pepys’s dia-ry, hear the shouts of market traders, and touch their wares. How would you find your way around? Where would you stay? What would you wear? Where might you be sus-pected of witchcraft? Where would you be welcome? Over these four dynamic decades, the last vestiges of medievalism are swept away and replaced by a tremendous cultural flowering. Why are half the people you meet under the age of twenty-one? What is considered rude? Mortimer delves into the nuances of daily life to paint a vibrant and detailed picture of soci-ety at the dawn of the modern world as only he can.

We hope to see you on November 15th!

Meets: Every Tuesday Time 9:30 am- 12:30 (or until 2:30ish)

Join the Wright-Patt Mavens for Mah Jongg Tuesdays in the Activities Room adjacent to the Thrift Shop. Play begins at 9:30 am sharp and continues until about noon or as long as there is anyone who wants to play through the afternoon. Even if you are not a player now but interested, stop by and watch to see if it is a game you would like to learn.

Wright-Patterson AFB is the home base for the little green Mah Jongg Rules book which is

annually sent to all fifty states and many inter-national countries. The profits from the sale of the book make up a very large portion of the OSC Welfare budget every year and have for more than fifty years. Books are revised every six or seven years providing new hands to keep the game fresh and challenging. Currently we are devising hands for the next edition. We can use some help and ideas for new hands!

We are a very unique volunteer group to be found

nowhere else in the Air Force. Hours are flexible and

vary according to your schedule. On average, we work

2 ½ hours in the morning during the school year. Dur-

ing this time, you are walking and talking and even ex-

ercising without realizing it.

Training is painless and fun! You can train with a

group or on an individual basis. Either way, you soon

become a part of a great group of guides.

You do not need to know the entire area of the museum, but

can focus on areas you feel comfortable making part of the

tour you develop for school groups from 3rd to 12th grade.

No sweat, easy!

The best part? The friendships we form while doing

something we love. We meet on the fourth Thursday

morning of every month during the school year for edu-

cation and training. Come join us!
