tddrYud MERRY CHRISTMAS

The staff of the Puka Puka Parade extends to all the members of the Club 100 Christmas greetings. To the officers and directors of the club, we wish a successful new year in the many projects that are contemplated.

It is especially fitting at this time to extend our appreciation to Fumi Taniyama, the man who prints the Puka Puka Parade; to Jimmy Akamine, for sound technical advice; to Etsuro Sekiya, for the many excellent photographs which were used in the paper; and to Mrs. Vivian Tomoyasu, for the excellent typiog job . To the many advertisers, we can only say that they have provided the financial assistance necessary for the production of the paper, and we urge all members of the club to patronize our advertisers.

To Jimmy Maeda and other contributors, we say mahalo, and hope that the new year will add a few more contributors.

HAWAII CHAPTER PRESIDENT'S CREETINCS

During the year 1949 , we were befuddled with the 179-days shipping strike, increasing unemployment, high prices, Communism, regular and speCial sessions of our legislature, statehood, and other matters; but now we are closing another year in our life and ready to celebrate the Yuletide season. For many of us, it will be our fourth Christmas after cladding civies in place of the khaki and olive drabs. We will again celebrate the Yuletide season, warmly, with our growing children, wives, girl friends, families and friends.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Hawaii Chapter, I wish to extend a !JERRY CHP.ISTl:AS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all members, families and friends of the Club 100th on Oahu. Kauai. !.!aui and elsewhere.

Let us look forward to another successful year with the fast growing tree of the Club 100th.

ABLE HISTORY Continued from Poge I banner of "A". 1st Lt. Mitsuyoshi ~Ukuda took over the C.v.·s post and the unit performed creditably in the Coli and Radicosa Hill skirmishes. Like men in the other companies, Able personnel found out that thirteen days was too short a time to capture Cassino in view of the number of trench feet cases and only 10% of the company strength available on the line.

Fresh replacements who joined Able prior to debarkation for Anzio added new vieor to the outfit. Once past Rome, the most notable engagement saW Able "sharing" honors with Baker in the battle of Belvedere. (Reference: The Yank magazine, September 1, 1944).

Later Captain Fukuda returned to the United States on rotation, whereupon Lt. Harry Schoenberg steered the unit to Arno River. There Capt. Samuel Sakamoto took over the driver's seat and led the troops into France for the battles of Bruyeres and Biffontaine. Capt. Sadami Katahara was Able C.O. in the rescue of the Lost Battalion.

For the final push in Italy Captain Schoenberg again was in command and Able men assaulted brilliantly in bringing about the capitulation of German troops.

Since their return to Rawaii the eligible list in "A" has rapidly dWindled unt 11 today, except for a few so-called "confirmed bachelors", most of the r.lembers have settled down and are doing KP duties under first sergeants of their respective households. The population in Able Chapter is increasine and many vigorous offsprings will soon be strutting their wares in all endeavors in a manner most worthy of their dads.

Stag parties have been S.O.P. with Able
