Have you heard of the famous scientist Charles Darwin? He was

the scientist who scientifically proposed the theory of evolution.

His famous book is 'Origin of Species.' In his theory of evolution, he

elaborated on the adaptation theory. Adaptation theory, also

known as the theory of survival of the fittest, is an organism's ability

to adapt to changes in its environment and adjust accordingly over

time. Adaptations occur over generations until the whole species changes to be better suited to

their environment. Think of a situation when any species refuses to adapt to the changes in the

environment. The end result is the total extinction of that species.

Now, put ourselves in that situation. We claim that we know certain things. We become proud

of our knowledge. But the world around us changes fast. New knowledge, new gadgets, new

inventions, new styles of learning and new ways of living happen around us. Suppose we say

that we know everything and we do not need any further knowledge, what is going to happen?

We become outdated and slowly obsolete. We have to adapt ourselves to the changing

realities around us.

Suppose a school is not ready to adapt to the technological advances like digital class rooms,

web learning, e learning, multi media, learning by doing, and other advanced technological

developments it loses its relevance. If a hospital is sticking to the old machines and outdated

procedures, patients will not prefer to go to that hospital. In the process of adaptation the first

step is readiness to unlearn ie., the readiness to let go off the accustomed methods and

trodden paths.

You might have heard of Bruce Lee, the famous master of Karate, the famous hero of the film,

'Enter the Dragon.' He once said, “Empty your cup so that it may be filled; become devoid to

gain totality.” Many a time we are not ready to empty the cup. We want to fill the cup with better

things, but cup should have space for that. Emptying is a painful process. Unlearning is thus

not an easy task, because we have to abandon the favourite and familiar ways.

After unlearning, adapt to the newer and better ways. But that is just not our aim. Our aim is to

become the BEST VERSION of ourselves. Until then let us continue the process of learning,

unlearning and relearning. “What you are is what you have been. What you will be is what you

do now.” Gautama Buddha.

The world is full of poetry. The air is living with its spirit, The waves dance to the music of its melodies, And the rivers sparkle in its brightness.

Relearn and Unlearn is a new way of learning

Today's humans need to embrace continuous learning in order to move forward. We must continue to unlearn, learn and relearn in order to stay

relevant in today's modern, digital workforce. Change is continuous, and in order to stay current and not dive into the world of the obsolete,

unlearning is a vital component in the 21st century.

The most overlooked aspect of learning is the process of unlearning. Everyone has acquired knowledge that built their mountain of ideas, some still

viable and others out-dated. In order to unlearn and move forward, we have to be willing to work through the process. Our world is in constant flux, and the most

successful individual will be the ones who unlearn, learn, relearn and evolve with it. One of the easiest ways to relearn and unlearn something is to move away from the

location where you learned it. New surroundings can help us notice new things. This is a bit of psychological manipulation. We are basically tricking our brain into

relearning and unlearning by engaging in new surroundings so we can relearn and unlearn one idea and learn another. It is another subtle way of helping ourselves

break a habit. Ms. Violet Pias

Relearning is moulding already learnt concepts and accommodate fresh evidence of change in any magnitude and direction. To relearn is to learn

something again after having forgotten or neglected it. After five-seven weeks of summer break students may have a fair amount of forgetting that

means teachers will begin each school year focusing on students' relearning. Unlearning is overriding or basically shelving off already learnt concepts

in favour of evidence that contradicts the same unlearning or letting go. It plays an important process in learning how to write for Grades 5-12. By the

time students have reached the middle and high school levels, they will have thought a number of writing formulas mnemonic. Prompt unlearning is

about moving away from something – letting-go –rather than acquiring. People who find opportunities in a changing environment are those who are actively learning.

The choice is simple: act or be acted upon i.e. to unlearn and relearn. Since change is the only constant you can truly rely upon, learning to navigate and adapt to it is not

just important to your survival, it's essential for you to thrive in the bigger game of life.

Nevin Jacob James, Grade. 5 A

The future belongs to those who learn, unlearn and relearn.

Change is the only constant. Be flexible and humble to keep changing and moving forward. Each day learn something new

and it is just as important to relearn something old.

Throughout our lives we are taught important lessons. Some of us try to build new things in the place of old ones and make it

more meaningful. In our lives we should understand what went wrong and align ourselves for success and progress. Learn

from risks. Learn from mistakes, unlearn the mistakes and relearn the knowledge successfully

Joshna D, Std. VIII E

Counselor’s DeskRelearning and unlearning are the two different techniques which will be continuous in your life. To relearn something; the first

step is to unlearn what you have already learned. Acquiring Knowledge is the end result of these two techniques. Every day is

supposed to be a day for relearning and unlearning. Experience is your best teacher and mistakes are the best way to learn.

For the fulfillment of this, we need to have only one thing that is a mindset to accept new things and change. To adapt to this life

long process there are a few steps.

I. Try to be updated with the current happenings around the world. ii. Feel the situations and events and try to be a part of it.

iii. Stop isolating yourself and start to become a social being iv. Accept the changes and try to adapt to it.

v. Unlearn the old concepts and relearn the new technology. vi. Adjust with the situations, people and challenges.

vii. Have a lot of patience, courage, and willingness to go along with the flow. viii. Do not be adamant, be flexible.

ix. Never act as if your knowledge is perfect and complete. x. Do not stick on to the old style and techniques.

Relearning and unlearning may happen most of the time when we migrate to a new place, a new company, a new family and in all the

interactions with new people. In order to accommodate new situations, unlearning and relearning are always essential. This is a continuous

procedure and to achieve this we need to have a broad mind.

Vice Principal’s Message

Greetings to all the Christities….

Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter the NBA has ever seen. He plays for the Golden State Warriors of

the National Basketball Association. He won the NBA Championship with the Warriors three times,

selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice and was a six time NBA All Star team player. Curry's

shooting ability ranges from scoring in great volume from underneath the rim all the way to near half-

court. Using an unorthodox jump shot, he was able to get the ball out of his hands in less than half a second by

releasing it on the way up, adding extra arc to his shot and making it difficult to block. The shooting proficiency

earned him the nickname "Baby-Faced Assassin" during his pre-NBA yearsand "Chef Curry" while in the NBA. Being

a comparatively short player Curry faced many problems in playing against taller opponents. So he changed his style

of shooting while studying in high school. He spent a summer changing his shooting form. He slowly moved to a style

which was difficult to block even by the taller defenders. He unlearned the wrong style in his shooting and relearned

a new style and became the greatest player of our times.

My dear students in our life also we have to unlearn and relearn many things. In our life we may learn many wrong

things and also learn some other things in a wrong way. Unlearning will help us to clear our wrong habits and

relearning will improve our styles and qualities. Our school life will help us in this process of 'relearn and unlearn'

and for that we have to follow the words of our parents and teachers. May God bless you all.

Dear Christies,How relevant will you be, as a student, as a teacher, as an executive, as a leader, ten years from now?

This question should help us to look into ourselves and prepare us to learn, unlearn and relearn. If there is

one thing we are not taught at school, it is how to get rid of what we have learned so far and update

ourselves reading the signs of the time. I do appreciate the concept of 'relearn and unlearn' introduced by

Christ School management and teachers in this issue of News Letter. It's really a timely intervention by our teachers to

let know our students know about its importance. Unlearning is about moving away from something—letting

go—rather than acquiring. It's like stripping old paint. It lays the foundation for the new layer of fresh learning to be

acquired and to stick. When you synthesize your knowledge and skills well, you evolve from a knowledge expert into a

knowledge entrepreneur. The New York Times columnist Tom Friedman wrote, 'Everyone has to bring something

extra; being average is no longer enough. Everyone is looking for individuals who can do critical thinking and problem

solving. The world around us is really looking for people who can invent, re-invent and re-engineer their jobs while st

doing them.' As Alvin Toffler put it: “The illiterate of the 21 century will not be those who cannot read and write, but

those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” The future belongs to those who master a constant state of adaptation,

continuously unlearning old rules and adopting new ones. As educators, or facilitators we need to teach our students

how to learn, unlearn, and relearn. I feel we need to first take a step back and look at our own learning. “The future

belongs to those who can learn, unlearn, and relearn” says Alvin Toffler.

Teachers’ Corner

Parent’s Corner

stThe illiterate of the 21 century are not those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, relearn and unlearn.”-Alvin Toffler, in Powershift:

stKnowledge, Wealth, and Power at the Edge of the 21 century.

As educators, first of all, we need to learn the new era of teaching, which is digital, technology-based and employing virtual space for other aspects of

development.

Secondly, in the unlearning process we teachers have to remind ourselves of our role to develop holistic individuals. This is not something new if we go

by the National Education Policy, which focuses on the holistic growth of each child in the education system. We need to play a more holistic role in facilitating students to

develop their intelligence quotient (IQ), emotional quotient (EQ), the spiritual quotient (SQ), creative/confidence/communications quotient (CQ), which contradicts

with what they had done earlier, that is, mostly teaching and preparing students to score in examinations. This concept must be unlearnt by the time students enter

university or start working. They would have high IQ, but very little interpersonal or intrapersonal skills to face challenges in life. Therefore a wider perspective about

knowledge transmission needs to be imparted

Thirdly, we need to relearn our roles. There is no one size that fits all. Educating students requires much creativity on our part. We talk so much about imparting higher-st

order thinking skills in students, but such skills must come from teachers. To be effective 21 century educators, teachers need to relearn the psychology of young people,

their interest and passion. Most importantly, we need to wipe out our assumptions and biases about education and keep abreast of happenings around the globe. Only

when teachers learn, relearn and unlearn can changes in policy or content be effective.

Ms Swarganita Singh

We have to remember an important thing in our life that we must be ready to relearn the things which will be

changing time to time and person to person. Let us look forward deeply with an example. We all know to paint.

But are we doing it after learning about all its concepts and criteria? So, we must relearn about painting before we

start again. So your ability to adapt towards change and proactively make changes in your career is what will

make a crucial difference to where you find yourself after five years from now.

At the same time, we must be ready to unlearn the things which are not necessary. Even though you are a master in painting,

when you attend a class by a teacher and come to know about your mistake in painting we must unlearn those things. It is not

hard to learn but it is hard to unlearn when you discover you are wrong. To attain knowledge learn every day. To attain wisdom

unlearn things every day which are not useful. Enjoy the experience of learning by relearning and unlearning in day-to-day life.

Mr. Vinoth. M

“Known is a drop. Unknown is an ocean” said great Awaiyaar one thousand years ago. To be a successful human we should know how to relearn and

unlearn.

Learning is a never ending process. Learning at school is only basic to understand but real learning takes place when we identify the things around us

and get into the practical world. In the phrase of learning real learning is through relearning and unlearning the ideas, concepts and facts. Relearn

leads to face the challenges and to grab the opportunities and unlearn leads to face success in the path which made us fall.

Both unlearning and relearning are required for life because they are required to build up society and make something new. It makes us innovative and also to face all

challenges which come in life. JEEVA PALANIVEL

Parent of Pranav P Yadav Grade 4C and Jithin P Yadav 1F

We're all born with an intense desire to learn. Somewhere along the line many of us lose our passion for learning. When you

resist relearning and unlearning, the option available to you can narrow greatly. When it comes to adapting the change, delay is

increasingly expensive as you quickly lose your place in the world. We must be in a constant state of adaptation-continually

relearning new things and unlearning old ones.

Just look around how simply the toddlers transit to walking on two limbs from crawling on four. They crawl for long and then as

their bones strengthen, they relearn a new technique to walk. They fall, cry for a while and yet try again and again and cease to try only to

succeed and thus walk with a broad smile, only to reach their mothers gleaming with happiness on the other side.

Unlearning is the essential process of being open minded and letting go of old habits, processes and information so we may create room for

new habits, processes and information. Unlearning is not about forgetting the old lessons and knowledge, rather it is about the ability to choose

and embrace a new alternative reality, model or paradigm. When we unlearn, we step outside of our current way of thinking and choose a

different mental model.

SYMPHONY OF HARMONY AND GRACE

The Holy Mass in the month of November was held th

on Friday 11 November 2019. The Holy Mass was

celebrated by Rev. Fr. Nijo Palatty CMI, who is the

Vice Principal of our school as well as the Director

of Christ Kindergarten. The Holy Mass was

dedicated to all the students of Std. X who are

preparing for their Board Exam.

Rev. Fr. Nijo during his sermon explained to us

that, all we need in our life is Jesus and not wealth.

We should strive for truth because Jesus is the

Truth, Way and Life.

Anna Ros Jomy, Std. IX C

The Rosary is structurally ideal for humans to pray.

It is an awesome prayer.

October is celebrated as the month of the Rosary

as it is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. In

Christ School the month of Rosary was celebrated st st

by reciting holy rosary from 21 to 31 of October.

Various intentions were kept in front of Mother

Mary as the Rosary is a powerful instrument for

personal transformation and best method of st

honouring Mary; on the last day i.e. on 31 October

the rosary week ended with a solemn Holy Mass

and two teachers were honoured with a gift for

taking part in the prayer on all days.

GANDHI THE 'HERO OF HUMANITY'thMAHATMA GANDHI'S 150 BIRTH ANNIVERSARY

Being born in India, the first of the names that are

heard amongst the freedom fighters and national

heroes is that of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Gandhi gave India its very first lessons of tolerance

and non- violence. He not only played a crucial

part in India's Independence, but also brought it

up as a matured nation in its ideals and principles.

The teachings o f Mahatma Gandhi for

maintaining peace, harmony and non-violence are

extremely relevant and important in the modern

day society, where we are seeing the rising trend of

people resorting to violence on many issues. He was

a man known for his patience. This is one of the

important characteristics that every person should

follow in this busy life. Following the path of truth

and non-violence would lead to a peaceful life,

which is more essential. In this current situation

everyone should follow Gandhian ideals to make

life easy and meaningful.

Lavanya B N, Std. X A

thThe 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

is an ideal time to remember his principles of

truth and non-violence and his uncompromising

commitment to them. Mohandas Karamchand

Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. He is

fondly remembered as the Father of the Nation.

He is known to have inspired movements for

civil rights and freedom across the world. He is a

political ethicist who employed nonviolent

resistance to lead the successful campaign for

India's independence from British rule.

Pope John Paul II on his visit to India in 1986

noted that “Gandhi who lived by non-violence

appeared to be defeated by violence. For a brief

moment, the light seemed to have gone out. Yet

his teachings and the example of his life live on

in the minds and hearts of millions of men and

women. Yes, the light is still shining, and the

heritage of Mahatma Gandhi speaks to us still.”thThe 150 birth anniversary of Gandhi was

marked with a celebration in school which was

filled with great enthusiasm and passion to

rekindle the values of Gandhi. Ms. Anisha led us

all to the theme of the celebration by giving an

apt reflection on Gandhi and his principles and it

was followed by a song that lifted our spirit and

touched our hearts. The students of both Middle

school and High school gave a meaningful

description of Gandhiji through a short skit

which enhanced our outlook towards Gandhi.

Rev. Fr. Martin Mallathu, Principal addressed

the gathering, while stressing upon the

principles of Gandhi- 'Sathya and Ahimsa'. He

emphasized and elaborated the significance of

the Gandhian philosophy in today's world where

the culture of violence is prevailing.

He also emphasized to bring back the teachings

and ideologies of Gandhi into our lives and live

the values that Gandhi showed us.

Last-minutes of Gandhi were staged beautifully

by the students. A speech on 'How to interpret st

Gandhian ideals in 21 century' was delivered

in-depth by Jisha J. Jose of Std. VII A, who

pondered on the relevance of Gandhi today.

On this occasion, children participated in several

competitions prior to the celebration. The

Competitions included:

Ÿ Pencil sketch on the topic 'Gandhi through

my eyes'. The Participants were Middle

School students

Ÿ Poster making on the topic: 'Quotes by

Mahatma Gandhi'. The Participants were

High School students

The celebration was concluded with vote of

thanks by Thanya of Grade V A, followed by

National Anthem.

High School

Our School organized the annual picnic for the High School students on st 21 October 2019. The tourist buses, fully packed with students and

teachers began the journey towards Wonderla, The land of Fun by invoking God's blessing and protection. The excited students full of energy kept the journey vibrant by singing and dancing and by 10 a.m. reached the venue. After registration and the

instruction given by the park safety department, the dream world of fun was opened before the students. Different games, fi l led with excitement gave way for the time and the

call for lunch break aroused a missed feeling about unattended games and the call for a sumptuous lunch. The dining hall, filled with the fragrance of food triggered everyone's hunger and all of us relished the multi-cuisine food. The most attractive activity of the picnic was the afternoon water games which made everyone forget the advent of the rain and turned the predicament into another realm of fun and enjoyment. The joyous moment concluded by the refreshment and the school buses started homeward journey at about 5 p.m. At about 8 p.m. the buses entered the school campus. The parents had already been waiting for their children. Everyone had a big smile on their faces indicating they had had great fun.

CLASS PICNIC

Middle SchoolndIt was a bright sunny day on 22 October 2019, when all the students of

Std 5 to 7 were seen excited to go for their much-awaited picnic to

Wonderla. In the morning the whole school was full of hustle and bustle

when the students were seen making their way towards their respective

buses. While on the way, the students enjoyed the bus journey and sang

and danced energetically all along. On reaching the picnic spot the

students ran out of the buses and their excitement and enthusiasm were

infectious. The children clearly enjoyed their day to the fullest and created

beautiful memories to be cherished by them for a long time to come. The

laughter and joy that was witnessed amongst the children was something

beyond words. The picnic was a much-needed break from the regular

schedule of the students in school and the children made the best out of

HILARIOUS TOUR TO HYDERABADthOn 8 of October, 2019 the students of Std. X accompanied by our

Principal, Rev. Fr. Martin Mallathu and the teachers headed to the

“City of Pearls”, Hyderabad, a destination waiting to be explored

and enjoyed. The level of excitement could be easily seen on the

cheerful faces of all at the KSR Bengaluru city railway station.

The students started with a visit to the Chow Mahalla Palace followed

by the Salarjung Musem. Major portion of the artifacts was acquired

by Nawab Mir. Yusuf Ali Khan, popularly known as Salarjung III. We

spent the evening shopping in the streets surrounding Charminar.

The group spent the rest of the day at the NTR Garden and Boat

Cruise on the Hussain Sagar Lake. This marked the end of day one.

The second day was marked by a full day excursion to Ramoji Film

city where we explored many recreated places and film sets after

which we went to Ramoji's own theme park, Fundustan followed by

Borasura and The scary house. Then came the cultural show, in

which the performers presented a comic act- The Wild West. The

night was full of fun and frolic as everyone danced on the groves.

The last day was marked by a visit to Golconda Fort. This fort, built

during the reign of Kakatiyas, is a perfect example of mathematical

and architectural brilliance. This must have been the awaited day for

everyone because on the third day, we went to the snow world to

experience artificial snowfall. The Sudha Cars Museum is a collection

of customized and recreated vintage cars.

Sadly, like anything good, the trip came to an end when we reached thBengaluru on the 12 of October with abundant memories.

Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) of NCC was held at SJES th. th Public School in Bengaluru. This camp was from 11 to 20 of October

2019 for 10 days. There were more than 600 cadets from different parts

of Bengaluru. 21 cadets from our school took part in it under the

guidance of Mr. Justin Kumar (ANO).

The camp helped each one of us to reframe the thoughts about

community life and independent living by

adjustment with whatever is provided. Various activities were conducted like drill

competition, karate, sports and also a visit to Yelahanka Air Force Station, Bengaluru. The

main purpose of this visit was to get some knowledge about the training a pilot undergoes

before flying an aircraft. This camp helped us to realize that we as a cadet should always

be ready to do our best.

COMBINED ANNUAL TRAINING CAMP“The children of today will make the India of tomorrow” – Jawaharlal Nehru.

Jawaharlal Nehru was fond of children and he was affectionately called

'Chacha Nehru'. So his birthday is celebrated as Children's thday. On November 14 , Christ School celebrated the

occasion with pomp and grandeur.

The highlights of the day included riveting performances

by our talented teachers spanning across dance, music

and poetry. The occasion was presided over by Rev. Fr.

Jossy Thamarassery CMI (Provincial, Jagadalpur) who

gave a thought provoking message for our children.

The entire programme was a great success due to the guidance and support

provided by our Principal Rev. Dr. Fr. Martin Mallathu and the hard work of the

teachers. The students of Christ School had a mesmerising day with sweet

memories to take back.

INTRA MURAL COMPETITIONIntra Mural competition was a great opportunity and a platform for students to exhibit and test their physical fitness. We

had different competitions such as Basketball, Volley ball, Football and other indoor and outdoor games . We have heard a

common phrase 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy '. So it was a great opportunity for the students to engage in

sports activities which keep them fit and healthy.

Creative CornerSometimes we learn many

concepts in our daily life

which are neither correct nor true.

Today at some point we may discover

that this thing we have learned is not

true or there is a better way of doing

it. It will be a good idea to unlearn

this thing and relearn it in the

correct way or in a better way.

Unlearning is an essential process of

being open minded and letting go of old

habits. It creates room for new habits.

When we relearn, we add knowledge or

new skills to what we already know.

When we unlearn, we step outside of our

current way of thinking and choose a

different mental model. Unlearning is

the ability to choose and embrace a new

alternate reality. Relearning results

in permanency of learning and

unlearning would lead to correct and

authentic learning of the concept.

My dad is a man like no other…He

believes in me, protects me, and cares for

me, but most o f a l l he loves me

unconditionally.

He fills my day with rainbow light to wipe away my

tears and erase my fears. There aren't enough words

to describe him. What my dad means to me and what

an influence he has on my life can never be forgotten.

I thank him for the tender care, for the warm caring

hand around me always. It gives me life and gives me

hope and it leads me to a good future.

Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela. His

renown is such that he is mostly just referred

to by the single name "Gandhi”. He is often

called Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma is a term that means Great Soul.

It's a religious title meaning "Saint" in

Christianity. In India, he is called the Father

of the Nation and also Bapu, which means

Father.
