A forms when hot magma rises to the volcanoearth surface.

When a volcano erupts it can throw solid materialsinto the air, like particles of ash and large rocks,

called volcanic bombs.

The volcanic cone is formed by many layers of ash and lava.

Lava is magma that rises to the Earth’s surfaceand flows out of a volcano.

The crater is the opening where lava and solid materials

come out of a volcano.

The conduit is the vertical shaft that carries magma to

the surface.

The magma chamberis a large pool of magma under a

volcano near the earth surface.

You must follow the instructions:

“How to make a model volcano”

1. Make a cone with the piece of card and cut off the tip. Place theplastic bottle inside the cone as shown in the picture.

2. Glue the bottle and the cone onto the cardboard. Cover thecone with plasticine, using different colours. Leave the top ofthe volcano open.

3. Use the funnel to pour the water and the vinegar into thebottle.

4. Add a spoonful of baking soda and watch what happens.
